Europe: Media Accused Of Climate Hysteria

The recent reports by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the media of the heatwave in Europe have been criticized for scaremongering and adding to the controversy that surrounds climate change. On July 13, the ESA issued a report claiming that temperatures across the south of Europe could reach an unbelievable 48° Celsius (118°F) and the report was trumpeted by media outlets. The problem is that the ESA reported ground surface temperatures, but the standard for reporting the weather to the public is to record air temperatures at two meters above ground level, which is much cooler than temperatures recorded at the ground surface level. Careful readers were able to debunk the false reports.

Google Tests Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tool That Is Able to Write News Articles

Google is testing a product called Genesis that uses artificial intelligence technology to produce news stories, pitching it to news organizations including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal’s owner, News Corp. A professor of journalism wrote that if AI “is misused by journalists and news organizations on topics that require nuance and cultural understanding, then it could damage the credibility not only of the tool but of the news organizations that use it.” If AI stories are not edited and checked carefully, the technology could spread misinformation and affect how traditionally written stories are perceived.

Companies Lay Off Chief Diversity Officers after the Supreme Court Overturned Affirmative Action

Since last year, thousands of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) officers workers have been laid off. Less than half the companies in the S&P 500 employed chief diversity officers in 2018, but by 2022, 75% of those companies had created a position. According to the Wall Street Journal, when the Supreme Court overturned affirmative action for college admissions in June, companies started anticipating spillover legal action might impact them, and they are laying off DEI workers en masse. We have reported before that DEI is tied to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals that can be enforced through restrictions or denial of financial and insurance services.

Last week, Trump-appointed US District Judge Clifton Corker struck down the Department of Agriculture and Small Business Administration’s race-based contracting schemes favoring minority-owned businesses, citing the Supreme Court’s recent ruling gutting affirmative action. Richard Hanania pointed out that now in the 6th Circuit, the only way to have race preferences is under very narrow circumstances by showing past discrimination by the specific government agency and that the discrimination was intentional against the group in question. Almost nothing can meet this standard.

Technocrat Says Digital ‘World ID’ Will Soon Be Mandatory to Take Part in Society

Biometric iris scanners are being set up throughout southern Europe. A global digital ID system for citizens around the world is planned whether they ‘like it or not‘ says a technocrat CEO of new company that intends to scan the eyeballs of every human on the planet. Alex Blania, the 29-year old CEO of ‘Tools for Humanity’, was asked about privacy concerns about his company’s eye scanning program and he answered, “So my high-level response is that something like World ID will eventually exist, meaning that you will need to verify [that you are human] on the internet, whether you like it or not. I think that’s certainly going to happen with the progress in AI. It’s probably going to happen in the next couple of years.”

Big Tech Plays ‘Trade Secrets’ Card to Fight Regulation of AI in Healthcare

Big Tech companies are battling against federal oversight of artificial intelligence (AI) tools used in medical care. Google, Amazon and Epic are set to make windfall profits from the expansion of AI in healthcare by selling tools to automate clinical documentation procedures, assess insurance claims, and to provide virtual care. Some activists have been mobilizing the ‘Stop #DeathByAI’ campaign to stop abuses by AI in Medicare Advantage. But problems with Medicare are just the tip of the iceberg in this exploding market, which Markets and Markets predicts will be worth over $102 billion by 2028 — up from its current value of $14.6 billion.
