You know, I've been thinking of something recently. I still see people well into middle-age do this, and I'm willing to wager that others here still see this too. You know when you watch a movie or a TV show and there's a real embarrassing moment for the character and the audience will feel that embarrassment and say, "Oh my God" with a smile and then cover their eyes or turn away while they experience the embarrassment or shame or cringe of the character? That used to happen to me a lot, until when I was 19 or so I realized: It's not real. The emotional manipulation is not real. The emotion is real, but its stimulus was not.
