Lasers, Co2 in particular have taken massive leaps forward just in the past couple of years. The neatest one I ever saw was claimed 10,000 Watts, it was shaped like the thing in Iron Mans chest about 20ish inches in diameter. It fired in pulses rated in 'femtoseconds' & just obliterated everything they placed in front of it. TBH, I have no idea how big the power source was but either way, even 2000Watt Co2 lasers are down to the size of 150Watt cousins just a few years ago.
So glad I started watching SG-1. Now so many memes make more sense.
