A decade-plus-old Reddit forum has seen a surge in activity, with users requesting feedback on their unfiltered photos: ‘I actually feel better about myself now’

These days, it seems like everyone on Reddit wants to know: Am I ugly?
“Am I Ugly?”, a decade-plus-old forum where users solicit feedback on their physical appearances, has seen a huge increase in activity in the last few months. Comments, posts and votes were up 1,986% in July compared to the same month last year, according to Reddit. The replies range from brutally honest to surprisingly sweet.
“I thought I’d get my feelings hurt a lot more,” said Bianca Wolmarans, a 23-year-old Ohio resident who shared eight close-up photos of her freckled face, blue eyes, auburn hair and nose piercings this summer. Overnight, thousands of comments and upvotes rolled in. Users told her she wasn’t conventionally attractive—she was uniquely beautiful.
Though the forum was created in 2010, the same year as Instagram and one year before Snapchat, it’s seeing more activity than ever. There are a few potential factors at play. In May, Reddit introduced features that make it easier for users to share posts across platforms such as Instagram. That added reach may be driving people to Reddit itself.
A moderator for the forum said membership numbers have climbed in recent weeks but couldn’t pinpoint why. Other Reddit forums devoted to appearance-based feedback have surged in recent months. Views on posts in “True Rate Me,” which outlines ranking guides that range from “ultra unattractive” to “ultra-attractive” along with visual examples, were up 1,140%, compared to Am I Ugly’s 1,046% growth in the past six months. For the same time period, views on posts on the “Rate Me” forum are up 46%, and in “First Impressions,” post views are up 65%, according to Reddit.
Users ranging from teenagers to middle-aged are uploading unedited photos and makeupless selfies to Am I Ugly to get frank assessments of their looks. As with any online community, there are downsides. Some users have faced a barrage of cruel comments or received unwanted direct messages.

They make movies about it. Many Christians are close to obsessed with trying to figure it out. But, as the Bible says, nobody know the time or place of events. It does say, however, that you can recognized signs of what is to come.
