I thought the general concept was the Bible being mass printed + improved literacy resulted in people reading it themselves and questioning what they were told which resulted in the Catholic Church fracturing into all the splinter groups we see now (Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist…) and the Inquisition was their brutal response to retain singular status.
