Investigation Into Biden, Classified Docs Is Reportedly Far Wider Than Previously Believed

Federal prosecutors and FBI agents have significantly widened the investigation into President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents, according to ABC News.

Prosecutors and agents from Special Counsel Robert Hur’s office haveinterviewed as many as 100 witnesses, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and have examined internal White House processes during the past nine months, according to the outlet. Some interviews were conducted as late as mid-September, and some interviewees have even been asked to return for a follow-up interview.

Authorities have reportedly gathered information regarding Biden’s alleged carelessness in the handling of classified material during his time as vice president, ABC News reported. The witnesses reportedly said the removal of the documents appeared to be a mistake rather than criminal activity.

In the course of the investigation, Hur’s office has been accessing and investigating documents dating back to the early days of former President Barack Obama’s administration and Biden’s tenure in the Senate, according to ABC News.

Witnesses have reportedly been questioned about Biden and his aides’ internal procedures for handling classified material, especially where Biden stored documents, notecards and briefing books, ABC News reported.

They have also accessed email chains dating back to 2010 and have asked witnesses for context and have reportedly asked witnesses about the use of safes and cabinets, per the outlet.

Biden’s lawyers found ten classified documents at the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Penn Center on Nov. 2, leading to an FBI search. More documents were found at his private home in Delaware on Dec. 20, Jan. 11, Jan. 12 and Jan. 20.

Biden’s attorneys did not announce the discovery of the first tranche of documents until January, though they initially discovered them just ten days before the 2022 midterm elections.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Hur as special counsel on Jan. 12 to investigate whether the president mishandled the classified documents.

Both Biden and Blinken said they were “surprised” to learn of the classified documents being in his private possession when reports first surfaced in January. The president, along with his administration, defended the storage of classified documents by arguing that he and his legal counsel are fully cooperating with the FBI.

A former adviser to former President Barack Obama blasted President Joe Biden for joining striking members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Tuesday.

Biden attended a picket line in Michigan Tuesday, the day before former President Donald Trump was slated to give a major speech in that state instead of attending a Republican primary debate. The UAW walked off the job at three auto manufacturing plants in Ohio, Michigan and Missouri at midnight Sept. 15 after failing to reach an agreement with Ford, General Motors and Stellantis (formerly Chrysler).

“For him to be going on a picket line is outrageous,” Steve Rattner, who was the “auto czar” during the Obama administration, said in an interview, according to NBC News. “There’s no precedent for it. The tradition of the president is to stay neutral in these things. I get the politics. The progressives all said, ‘We don’t want a mediator; we want an advocate.’ Andhe bowed to the progressives, and now he’s going out there to put his thumb on the scale. And it’s wrong.”

“You deserve what you’ve earned and you’ve earned a hell of a lot more than you gettin’ paid now,” Biden said during his visit to the picket line.

The union sought a four-day work week and a 36% salary increase over five years, accordingto Bloomberg. Biden endorsed the union’s demand for the pay increase. The UAW has also criticized President Joe Biden’s efforts to promote electric vehicles, Politico reported.

Mad Max Timeline Explained: When Each Movie Takes Place

The original Mad Max, which was released in 1979, opens with the caption, “A few years from now.” That, and a piece of graffiti on aroad sign dated December 1984, puts the events of the first film squarely in the mid-80s, most likely 1985. At the time the story starts,Australia — along with the rest of the world — has been thrown into a social and economic breakdown as a result of warring around the Persian Gulf, which causes a dramatic drop-off in oil production. The lack of fuel sparks a global financial collapse, with various countries declaring martial law to keep order.

In this timeline, violent road gangs have taken over the highways of Australia, only kept in check by the officers of the MFP (Main Force Patrol), which includes a young "Mad" Max Rockatansky. Unlike the other movies in the franchise, some semblance of society still existed with law enforcement and stores still operating and the world was stable enough that Max and his family even go on a road trip vacation, albeit one that ends in tragedy. It is also worth noting there was still greenery and not just an empty wasteland.

Over the course of the first of the Mad Max movies, the young officer's wife and child are brutally murdered by one of these road gangs, sending him on a mission of vengeance; he hunts down each member in his trademark interceptor and kills them one by one. By the film’s end, it’s clear that the world is in rough shape but that a semblance of order still exists.At the very least, a visible divide remains between the wasteland and what remains of civilization.

In the Mad Max:Fury Road prequelcomics, however, this is changed,and the nuclear war takes place between the first and second films. Regardless of the timeline, the effect is the same: society has continued to break down significantly in just a few short years since the end of Mad Max, especially in the Australian wasteland where Max now lives and travels around in his interceptor searching for gasoline.

There are forms of civilization left, including a peaceful tribe of people that Max ends up joining. The movie also sees the rise in warlords who will play a larger role in the franchise going forward. The Humungus runs a crew of bandits looking to take the gas from the weaker communities setting up the theme of this new world in which the strong and merciless have taken control by brute force.

An investigation into Joe Biden’s classified documents is apparently casting a “wide net” and going all the way back to the President’s time as a Senator – but sources leaking to ABC have implied the investigation will end sympathetically, with Biden’s improper retention of sensitive material being classed as “more likely a mistake than a criminal act.”

Special Counsel Robert Hur was appointed to investigate the situation after classified documents were found in boxes near the 46th President’s Corvette, having also previously been found at his office in the Penn Biden Center.Leaks to ABC News suggest Blinken and other senior figures have been interviewed by Hur’s team, with the investigation said to have “grown into a sprawling examination of Obama-era security protocols and internal White House processes,” indicating Hur’s report is going to focus on institutional rather than personal failings.

The soft-touch approach to Biden compared to Trump – who has been aggressively pursued and prosecuted by Special Counsel Jack Smith for allegedly mishandling classified documents after leaving the White House – comes in spite of the fact that Trump had enjoyed full declassifying authority as President of the United States. Biden, who took documents as a Senator and later as Vice President, had no such authority.
