Victor Davis Hanson

@VDHanson

As Gen. Milley leaves office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, on his last day he goes out ranting about his loyalty to the Constitution and not to a “dictator,”—blasting Trump without mentioning Trump, and thus trumping as it were Trump’s own excesses with those of his own.

So transits the most politicalized and weaponized 4-star CJS since the office was created.

Would that instead Milley had at least explained the 2021 historically disastrous flight from Kabul and defeat in Afghanistan, or the radical implementation of woke agendas into the Pentagon retention and promotion policies, or why he felt the illustrious and renown Professor Kendi, of current Boston University “Center for Antiracist Research” infamy, should be required reading for the U.S. military at time when its recruitment is descending into historical lows and its deterrent reputation is seriously questioned.

So what about Milley’s own “constitutional" legacy?

Is it that an officer who deems his civilian President and Commander in Chief dangerous—as diagnosed by 4-star psychiatrist, state department diplomat, and now theater commander Milley—has a right to commandeer the chain of command, usurp powers that are expressly by law denied to him, and then take it on himself in a time of Chinese-American tensions to freelance, by contacting his communist counterpart to warn him about his own president’s diagnosed volatility, and to reassure the hardened Stalinist that Dr/Gen. Milley will inform him first of any precipitate action from the White House.

Dictatorial much?

Americans might ask the departing Milley, two questions, 1) if Trump is reelected in 2024, will a retired General Milley, as did his retired 4-star colleagues in 2020, violate the Uniform Code of Military Justice and repeat his current charges against a second-term President Trump—matching the previous invective of his colleagues' accusations of “liar” or “Mussolini”?.

And 2) what would Milley have done had a subordinate like himself, say a 3-star general, decided that Gen. Mark Milley’s Beijing gambit and his arrogation of command powers that were not legally his own, posed a grave threat to the republic?

And thus would such a 3-star call up theater commanders to warn them to resist Milley’s reckless orders and to report to him first, followed by his phone call to the top Chinese PLA general to assure them that if Milley somehow gave an order deemed by the 3-star to be dangerously provocative, then he would not only not obey it but rather first warn the Chinese military of Milley’s unstable state of mind.

Is that the kind of military Milley wishes to leave as his legacy, as he departs barking accusations at the moon?

More VD Hanson on Milley

Victor Davis Hanson

@VDHanson

Retiring Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley is hitting the media circuit as he retires. How odd of him to warn about all the unconstitutional measures that Donald Trump threatened to enact that supposedly justified the illegal or unethical acts that his opponents in the military and intelligence community actually did.

Or to put it another way, Biden’s abject corruption, his chronic lying, his unapologetic racial condescension, his utter destruction of the border, and his dementia still would not justify Milley’s replacement to call his communist Chinese counterpart to warn him that Biden was cognitively inert and dangerous, or to order theater commanders to ignore Biden-routed orders and instead report directly to him.

Nor would Biden’s pathologies justify a dozen or so retired 4-stars to violate the Uniform Code of Military Justice by publicly blasting Biden a liar, a Mussolini, and to be gone the sooner the better.

Nor would Biden’s failed and dangerous presidency warrant a former Pentagon lawyer to publish a warning that he needed to be removed by a possible military coup.

Nor would Biden’s dangers to the republic justify 51 former “Intelligence authorities” to issue a lying affidavit to warp an upcoming presidential debate and election.

So Mark Milley ends as he begins—without a clue that he and others set precedents that if followed with future controversial presidents would soon destroy the republic.

Oh, the spanish crown has all kinds of stuff going on in history. I think they are quietly undercover very powerful.

Although this current King took over after his fathers corruption became news and he abdicated.

I have suspected maybe a secret white hat, but have no sauce for that.

I do find it quite interesting that the Spanish newspaper El Pais was spying on Julian Assange in the Ecador embassy and not long after that court case was being discussed Hillary shows up in Madrid.

Yep

Get this - Knights Templar stuff….

King of Jerusalem

The 51-year old Spanish monarch also holds the ceremonial title of King of Jerusalem. There was an actual Kingdom of Jerusalem during the Crusades that lasted from 1099 to 1291. The first monarch was Godfrey of Bouillon. After 1291, there have been a series of claims to the title.

The title has been claimed by the Spanish crown since it was acquired by Fernando II (Ferdinand the Catholic) when he acquired the title of King of Naples. The King of Jerusalem title had been bought by the Neapolitans from Mary of Antioch in 1277.

Ferdinand is best known, along with Queen Isabella I of Castile, for sponsorship of the voyages of Christopher Columbus. Ferdinand is also considered by many as the first king of Spain, although that title did not formally exist until the total unification of the Iberian peninsula a few years later.
