Georgia Institute of Technology must pay half a million dollars in civil penalties for running a job recruitment platform that included postings that excluded non-citizens. The settlement came after a “lawful permanent resident” student filed a complaint with the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division. (snip) The DOJ investigation determined the public university violated the Immigration and Nationality Act. A total of $1.6 million fines were levied against 30 employers who advertised citizens-only jobs on the platform.

Commandant retiring after 8 years at Citadel

CHARLESTON – Brig. Gen. Emory Mace, the commandant at The Citadel whose daughter was the first female graduate from the state military college, says he wants to retire.
Mace has been third-in-command at the school for eight years. He told the school's board of visitors Saturday he accomplished what he came to do – help men and women cadets coexist at the college.
"I feel I made a small difference in the life of The Citadel," said Mace, whose daughter Nancy enrolled in the first class of female cadets in 1996. She graduated in 1999.
Mace's departure could signify the end of a chapter in the college's 162-year history.
The gender controversy began in 1993 when Shannon Faulkner sought enrollment in day classes at The Citadel. Her admission was blocked and Faulkner sued. She eventually won her lawsuit but withdrew from the college five days after she enrolled in August 1995.
Mace's daughter was a part of the next class of four female cadets. Two of the women left after one semester, but Mace and Petra Lovetinska graduated. Since then, 67 women have graduated. Currently 130 of the 2,000 Corps of Cadets are women.
Citadel President Maj. Gen. John Grinalds will appoint a search committee to select a new commandant, possibly by July 1. Mace's last day will be Aug. 31.
