Gaetz is generally unliked by quite a few of the GOP caucus. Some want to punch his lights out.
He'd never get out of a conference vote, let alone a full House vote.
I would not count of Gaetz being a major part of whatever solution occurs. Some people would vote against him no matter what his stand is just to show they are seriously pissed off at him.
His role was to knock McCarthy out, and now he needs to step aside and let the real negotiations begin.
Trump has already said that he'd help the House but only if necessary. If they cannot agree on speaker, then who knows what is going to occur.
Maybe Trump meets with the factions in private and tells them to get their act together or he will endorse any or all primary challengers against the holdouts. They all know the power of a Trump endorsement, and the power of a Trump negative nickname. DeSanctimonious learned not to cross Trump first hand.
