What is this shit? Candidates have to pay to be on the Florida primary ballot, and have to pay higher if they don't attend?

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley will not attend the Florida GOP's "Freedom Summit" this weekend, a move that will cause her campaign to pay a higher rate to appear on the state's ballot.

 

A Republican Party of Florida official confirmed to The Messenger that Haley would not be in attendance. Haley's campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

 

The state Republican Party will charge candidates who attend the summit $25,000 to be on the ballot, while those who miss the summit will have to pay $100,000 to do so.

 

Haley has risen in the polls following widely well-received performances in the first two Republican debates. She now finds herself neck-and-neck with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for second place in the primary behind former President Donald Trump.
