During the black plague fires of London, Parliament enacted the Cestui Que Vie Act 1666. This subrogated the rights of men and women, meaning all were declared dead, lost at sea. The Government took custody of everybody and their property into a trust.

I believe this was the official introduction of Admiralty Law on people living on land. It covers all land-based commercial activities that are maritime in character. All persons became corporations.
In 2022, a petition to have the Act removed was rejected by the UK Government.
