and also the notes typically have like 1977

1977-A, etc .

so 1977-A woudl have been after 1977.

the 2017 issue is one series, and then we have the 2017-A which was issued after the 2017 issue.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing has a monthly production page. From there you can find each month and the issues printed. I'm seeing one dollar bills with a 2021 date on them as being produced in September of this year.
