Scott Kempner, Guitarist and Punk Rock Pioneer, Dies at 69
The Bronx-born musician played guitar for and co-founded the Dictators, an early punk band. He later founded the Del Lords.
Scott Kempner, a guitarist and songwriter and a co-founder of the Dictators, one of the first punk rock bands, died on Wednesday. He was 69.
His death, at a nursing home in Connecticut, was confirmed by Rich Nesin, who managed his solo career. Mr. Kempner died from complications related to early onset dementia, Mr. Nesin said.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Mr. Kempner started his music career not long after he had graduated from the Bronx High School of Science. He was born Feb. 6, 1954, to Manny and Lynn Kempner.
In 1972, while visiting a friend who was in college in New Paltz, N.Y., Mr. Kempner started playing music with Andy Shernoff and Ross Friedman, who was known as the Boss, and together they created the Dictators.
That was when he earned the nickname, Top Ten. The band’s first album, “The Dictators Go Girl Crazy,” was released in 1975, a year before the Ramones made their debut. The All Music Guide called the band “one of the finest and most influential proto-punk bands to walk the earth" but said that on its debut album, the group’s satire and “ahead-of-their-time enthusiasm for wrestling, White Castle hamburgers, and television confused more kids than it converted.”
The band was dropped by its label, Epic, after its first album. It recorded two more albums, on the Elektra label, that failed to find a big audience, and the band split up, though the members occasionally reunited over the ensuing years.
After the breakup, Mr. Kempner founded the roots rock band the Del Lords and took the lead as chief singer and songwriter.
“In the Dictators, he was a team player, the heart of the band,” Eric Ambel, a member of the Del Lords, said of his former bandmate.

Ron DeSantis's Online Messaging Team Really Sucks

With a laundry list of legislative wins firmly tucked away under his gubernatorial belt, 2024 Republican presidential candidate and Governor Ron DeSantis is arguably the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T) when it comes to past Florida governors, but his online messaging team sucks.
In my own opinion, and contrary to what many supporters of former President Donald Trump think, Gov. DeSantis is a very well-rounded and principled presidential candidate.
The problem DeSantis is having with voters across the nation is that he is running in a contested presidential primary race against a very popular former sitting U.S. president.
This has never happened before.
Second, while DeSantis has put together a really good team of advisors, including Ryan Tyson, James Uthmeier, David Polyansky, Sam Cooper, and Marc Reichelderfer,his communications and online team continue to be the weakest link in his political “full armor of God” presidential campaign.
While communication advisors like Lindsey Curnotte and Bryan Griffin have done a very good job promoting and staffing DeSantis, Andrew Romeo and Christina Pushaw have managed to allow themselves to be taken off message, and have continued to embarrass DeSantis with their knuckleheaded and bird-brained statements on social media.

Pushaw, who recently ran for dear life after Laura Loomer confronted her at the Florida Freedom Summit, has become a huge liability for DeSantis, and even though DeSantis had reeled her in for making ill-advised social media posts, she is still on staff and appears to have been back to her old ways.
Loomer calls Pushaw a "paper tiger," accusing her of hiding behind a keyboard, and for helping to destroy DeSantis's online presence.
"When is he going to drop out? He’s polling at 8% nationally thanks to you. He can credit you for completely destroying his online influencer operation," said Loomer.
If DeSantis loses his race, regardless of how large of a margin he loses by,Pushaw will be seen as being a major contributing factor for his demise. (It apoears the tactics she learned in Ukraine and the EU doesn’t work here!)
Pushaw was managed to infuriate and offend every day Republican voters not just the "Magadonians" that make up a large portion of President Trump's base of support.
Just look at the really stupid move to createthe now-scrubbed Signal “War Room Creative Ideas.”
Pushaw runs the DeSantis’s War Room” on “X” and DeSantis defended her actions of using anonymous online accounts and “influencers” to disseminate anti-Trump political propaganda.
The campaign’s director of rapid response, Christina Pushaw, told staffers to create more videos and sent content to anonymous accounts that were allied with the campaign.
In one case, Pushaw shared a clip of Trump at a Fox News town hall and asked if the group knew “any Anons who might want it.”
She added, “if we post it or a named influencer posts it, it might get noted.”
These are the same tactics DeSantis zombies, many of whom are aligned with Pushaw, have been bitching and moaning about, and have accuesed Trump influencers of indulging in.
Does DeSantis also condone Pushaw’s recent and idiotic attempt to dig at Trump at the expense of a Holocaust survivor?
In response to a CNN story about a woman who was sentenced to 51 months in prison for stealing $2.8 million from the Holocaust survivor, Pushaw tweeted, “Trump 2028 campaign is gonna hire her when she gets out.”
Pushaw’s tweet appears to be an attempt to jab President Trump regarding the tens of millions of dollars his Save America Super PAC has spent on the former president’s legal fees and the legal fees of others.
Tasteless.
The morning after we posted on Pushaw dumb move, several close donors and supporters of Trump called us to gripe about her lack of tact by posting the remark.
Both donors questioned why she hasn’t been fired.

It’s no secret that Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet. Before the U.S. government backed Ukraine in a proxy war against Russia, high-level officials in Ukraine were under investigation for widespread corruption.
Now, we are seeing online sleuths and investigative journalists allege that Zelensky owns several luxury yachts valued at $75 million through surrogates—meaning he owns the yachts via proxy buyers beholden to him.
One individual explained: “Zelensky bought two luxury yachts for $75 million through surrogates.
From published memoranda of the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA), it became known about the acquisition of two superyachts – the 46-meter “Lucky Me” and the 57-meter “My Legacy” by the Shefir brothers, who are close to Zelensky
The first yacht was purchased for $25 million on October 18, the second – for almost $50 million on October 25, Russian Telegram channels wrote, citing articles in foreign publications as evidence.
Boris and Sergey Shefir, on whose behalf the purchases were made, are close friends and confidants of the President of Ukraine
Together with them, Zelensky founded the Kvartal-95 studio in 2003 and appointed the younger of the brothers, Sergey Shefir, as the first assistant to the President of Ukraine shortly after he won the elections and became the President on May 20, 2019.
There is every reason to believe that and the two purchases were made in the name of Sergey and Boris Shefir in order to hide the real owner of the yachts – Vladimir Zelensky
They have used similar schemes before. Back in 2021, the International Center for the Study of Corruption and Organized Crime reported in its investigation that Sergey Shefir was involved in Zelensky’s so-called offshore network in the British Virgin Islands, Cyprus and Belize
This became known thanks to the disclosure by the international media of the so-called “Pandora File”. A month before he won the election, Zelensky transferred his offshore assets to the name of Sergey Shefir.
It appears that a similar impersonation scheme was used in the purchase of yachts.

Russia bans ‘LGBT movement’
The country’s Supreme Court has designated the “international LGBT movement” an extremist group
The Supreme Court of Russia outlawed the “international LGBT public movement” on Thursday, designating it an extremist group. The ruling affects the group’s subsidiaries as well, the court announced, without naming specific organizations.
The lawsuit was filed earlier this month by the Russian Justice Ministry, which argued that “the LGBT movement’s” activities hadqualified it as an “extremist group.” Specifically, it has been sowing “social and religious discord” in the country, the ministry claimed.
The hearings took place behind closed doors and lasted over four hours as the case involved more than 20 tomes of material, RIA Novosti reported, citing the Supreme Court’s press service.No representatives of the “international LGBT movement” were present during the hearings, with only an attorney for the Justice Ministry in attendance.
Over the past few years, Russia has gradually tightened its legislation aimed at countering the spread of so-called “LGBT ideology.” In 2013, the country outlawed the dissemination of such propaganda among minors, extending the measure to adults last December.
Major fines were introduced for anyone found guilty of promoting “non-traditional sexual relations,” transgenderism and pedophilia.
However, it still remains unclear which pro-LGBT groups exactly the new ruling will affect in Russia. The country’s largest such group is the ‘Russian LGBT network,’ a civic platform established in the mid-2000s to bring together regional organizations advocating the rights of sexual minorities.
The network, which was designated as a “foreign agent” two years ago, is a part ofLIGA – the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association – a major Swiss-based NGOthat has advocated gay rights since the late 1970s.

Ukraine is not fighting for Europe – EU state
Kiev is not defending peace on the continent and will not get weapons from Budapest, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said
Hungary rejects any approach to the Ukraine conflict that suggests that Kiev is somehow fighting to protect peace and democracy in Europe, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said, adding that the conflict is only about Ukraine’s own territorial integrity.
Speaking at a press conference following a meeting of foreign ministers of the NATO-Ukraine Council, Szijjartocalled for an end to deliveries of lethal aid to Ukraine, warning that such assistance has the potential to spark an escalation of the conflict.
He noted that while Hungary supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev is “not Europe’s fight” and is not about peace and democracy in Europe.
“Ukraine is fighting for itself, for its own territorial integrity, its own sovereignty and its own independence, which we value very much, because it is a heroic fight, of course, but I say again, this is not our war, which is why we reject any approach that starts from this,” Szijjarto said.
He added that NATO membership for Ukraine should be out of the question given the current circumstances. He noted that Kiev’s accession to the bloc is not even an option given that countries at war cannot be accepted. Such a move would put the alliance itself in danger andcould potentially spark a world war, the minister said.
The second reason, according to Szijjarto, is the fact that NATO is a “community of values,”which has no place for a state that “constantly suppresses the rights of national minorities.”
Budapest has repeatedly accused Kiev of suppressing the right of the nearly 150,000 ethnic Hungarians living in Ukraine to speak their own language by introducing laws requiring that Ukrainian be spoken in public life, school, the media, as well as in offices.
Despite assurances from Kiev that a bill has already been drafted to address the issue, Szijjarto insisted that simple promises are meaningless and that Hungary only believes in fully adopted and implemented legislation.
“You can’t lead us or mislead us with statements,” he said.
Szijjarto’s statement comes after NATO promised on Wednesday that it will “develop a roadmap toward Ukraine’s full interoperability”with the bloc’s militaries but stopped short of offering any membership prospects for Kiev.

Germany warns against ‘fatal’ Ukraine fatigue
NATO foreign ministers grappled with Western commitment to the conflict during a key meeting in Brussels
Dwindling public attention to the Ukraine conflict will be “fatal,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has said, in the run-up to a key NATO meeting in Brussels on Wednesday.
The first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council on the level of foreign ministers took place amid a “stalemate” on the frontline, as described by the top Ukrainian general, Valery Zaluzhny, earlier this month. Dmitry Kuleba, Kiev’s top diplomat, rejected the assessment ahead of the meeting.
Western fatigue with Ukraine and its problems topped the agenda during the session, but according to German news program Tagesschau, the ministers offered no concrete solutions.
“The view of Ukraine is currently disappearing from the public – that is fatal,” Baerbock warned, as quoted by the German Foreign Ministry on social media.
“We all have to work to further extend the winter protection umbrella for Ukraine,” she added, referring to bolstering Ukraine’s air defenses against Russian attacks.
A short communique released by NATO after the meeting said the council has “proven to be a reliable crisis consultation mechanism.”Ukraine and members of the bloc are developing “a roadmap for Ukraine’s transition to full interoperability with NATO” – that is, switching Ukraine from Soviet to Western weapons and military tactics.
Western media has reported numerous complaints by Ukrainian troops that the training they receive from NATO states is not applicable to the conflict with Russia.
Kuleba reiterated Kiev’s pitch for unrestricted support of his nation, touting the Ukrainian army as a proxy force prepared to sacrifice their lives fighting against the Russians.
“The best way to avoid sending your own soldiers into a war is to help another country fight its own war,” the minister told the press. “This is what makes us very different from others.Our deal is very fair. You give us all we need, we fight.”
The premise that Ukraine serves as a shield for Europe was openly criticized by Hungary, which has refused to send arms to Ukraine and has been pushing for a negotiated truce. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto called Kiev’s claim “an exaggeration,” and said Budapest rejects any approach to the conflict based on this notion. “This is not our war,” he added.

Refusing to talk to Russia ‘dangerous’ – EU state
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg warned his counterpartsagainst “life-threatening echo chambers in international relations”
Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg has warned Western countries of the dangers of refusing to talk to Russia, and the risks posed by ‘echo chambers’ in international politics.
Schallenberg made the comments while welcoming the decision by North Macedonia’s Organization for Security and Co-operation (OSCE) Chairmanship to allow Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to attend its annual meeting in Skopje this week.
“The West must not be afraid to sit down with the Russians. I believe the tendency to dive into our own echo chambers in foreign politics is life-threatening,” he said, adding that the diplomacy carried out in the OSCE is “classic multilateralism in the best sense.”
Last year, the top Austrian diplomat recalled – when Poland took over the one-year rotating chair at the OSCE and refused to allow Lavrov attend – he was the only Western foreign minister to criticize the refusal to invite the Russian foreign minister.
The summit of OSCE foreign ministers will take place from November 30 to December 1. Lavrov already flew to the North Macedonian capital late Wednesday. His plane flew over Turkey and Greece, although it was originally planned that he would travel over Bulgaria. According to TASS, Bulgaria refused to open its airspace to Lavrov’s plane if Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was also on board.
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania said they will not attend the OSCE meeting, condemning Moscow’s expected participation in the event, and saying they “deeply regret” the decision to invite Lavrov. Polish Foreign Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sek also told reporters he would not take part in the summit, nor will he send any representatives.
Schallenberg said he could “emotionally understand” these moves, while stressing that the OSCE will be “irreplaceable” in the period after the Ukraine conflict ends. “We need more OSCE in the future and not less,” he stated.
