Georgia public defender arrested on meth, weapons charges at scene of double shooting
Saunders, 43, was booked into the Muscogee County Jail Friday afternoon and charged with possession of methamphetamine (a schedule 2 substance), possession of a firearm or a knife during the commission of a crime, and possession and use of drug-related objects, according to CNAW2News.com.
It’s unclear if her arrest was connected to the earlier double shooting.
Columbus police said the male victim arrived at a local hospital suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, but the female victim is in critical condition, WTVM reported.
Saunders recently made local news headlines after defending a man accused of fatally shooting a victim with a rifle in 2021. But on Wednesday, a jury convicted her client, Emanuel Truitt, of murder.
