Effective Response StrategiesWhat should you do when someone uses bias-based language? Civil rights teams offerideas and support for students and staff on how to respond.Central High School in Corinth: Presented at a staffmeeting, directly asking for adult assistance ininterrupting bias-based language. They explained whythey were focusingon the issue, acknowledged howdifficult it can be to challenge the behavior, and sharedresponse strategies from Learning for Justice. They gaveout "Speak Up Against Bias" pocket guides and modeledeach of their strategies. Next fall, they’ll reinforcethesewith laminated classroom posters. Staff respondedpositively, noting that the guide was a useful resourceand that the team’s presentation was positive andpolished.
