Enabling

 

Enabling is a pattern of behavior, often adopted by abuse victims, which seeks to avoid confrontation and conflict by absorbing the abuse without challenging it or setting boundaries. The perpetrator of the abuse is thus "enabled" to continue their pattern of behavior.

 

Enabling is a strategy often adopted by victims of abuse in an effort to try to placate the abuser by giving them what they want, fly "under the radar" or "keep the peace". The idea is that efforts to confront or set boundaries in the face of unacceptable behavior often result in an immediate escalation of conflict, therefore it is easier just to go along with what the abuser wants.

 

Enabling Pros…

 

While enabling does not completely eliminate abusive episodes, it does reduce the overall frequency and/or intensity of conflict in the home and establishes a stable and secure status quo where the abuser and the victim's roles in the relationship are clearly defined.

 

Enabling Cons…

 

While enabling suppresses short term conflicts, it carries the penalty of reinforcing and prolonging a dysfunctional controlling hierarchy in a relationship, where one person is free to use abusive behaviors to get what they want. Enablers often unwittingly become accomplices in their own entrapment which makes it all the more difficult for them to break the cycle of abuse.

 

Enablers who subsequently decide to establish boundaries are likely to face stiff resistance from an abuser in the form of anger, emotional blackmail, hoovering, FOG, threats, false accusations etc.

 

What it Feels Like

 

Enablers often feel frustrated and trapped, because they have to suppress their own goals, and feelings to sustain the status quo. As a result, enablers are prone to depression, substance abuse, sudden unexpected angry outbursts and projecting their own anger toward innocent "safe" bystanders. Enablers sometimes become secondary abusers of children, family members, acquaintances or co-workers who they may regard as "weaker".

 

Examples of Enabling

 

-A woman who makes excuses for her husband's violent rages.

-Cleaning up someone else's mess.

-Hiding a person's dysfunctional actions from public view.

-Absorbing the negative consequences of someone else's bad choices,

-Paying off another person's debts.

-Refusing to confront or protect oneself when exposed to physical, emotional or verbal assault.

-Projecting one's own anger and frustration from a dysfunctional relationship onto another, innocent third party.

-Enabling makes it easier for an abuser to go on abusing - at great cost to the direct victim and to the innocent bystanders like children, other family members, friends, acquaintances and ultimately to the abuser themselves - who is kept on life support in the dysfunctional system just enough to have no real incentive to change it.

 

What NOT To Do:

 

-Don't be an enabler!

-Don't be silent about what you are dealing with.

-Don't hide another person's mistreatment of you from others.

-Don't turn your anger on children or other people who you consider to be "weaker" than you.

-Don't shield someone from the consequences of their own behavior - that is not helping them.

-Don't fool yourself into thinking you can "take it" or that you are strong enough to absorb another person's pain.

-Don't try to take on the role of a rescuer or a person who can fix an abuser's behavior.

-Don't assume that because your children are only observing what is going on that that they aren't getting hurt by it

-Don't tell yourself that because the abuse is intermittent or occasional that it isn't serious.

-Don't assume that because an abuser is friendly and kind most of the time that they don't qualify as a "real" abuser.

 

What TO Do:

 

-Get support. Talk to somebody who understands what you are dealing with.

-Protect yourself and any children from verbal and emotional and physical assault.

-Work to establish realistic and meaningful boundaries.

Influenza Surveillance – United States, 1992-93 and 1993-94

 

Influenza remains a cause of substantial morbidity and mortality in the United States (1). During influenza epidemics, visits to physicians, clinics, and emergency rooms, as well as hospitalizations caused by influenza-related complications, may increase. Persons greater than or equal to 65 years of age and those with underlying chronic health conditions, including cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, and certain metabolic conditions are at increased risk for complications of influenza infection and are more likely than the general population to be hospitalized if infected. During major epidemics, hospitalization rates among the elderly and persons who have underlying chronic health problems may increase twofold to fivefold compared with nonepidemic periods (2). Influenza epidemics also are associated with increased mortality. Since 1968-69, the influenza virus subtype generally associated with the highest mortality has been influenza A(H3N2). During nine of 20 influenza seasons (from 1972-73 through 1991-92), greater than 20,000 influenza-associated excess deaths occurred each season; during four of these seasons, greater than 40,000 deaths occurred (CDC, unpublished data). Although there is season-to-season variability, in recent years greater than 90% of influenza-associated deaths have occurred among persons greater than or equal to 65 years of age (3).

False claims question Haley’s eligibility to serve as US president

CLAIM: Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is ineligible to be president because her parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of her birth.

 

AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. Haley is a natural-born U.S. citizen who is eligible to serve as president. The former ambassador to the United Nations was born on Jan. 20, 1972, in Bamberg, South Carolina, according to information on her official website when she was governor of the state.

 

THE FACTS: With the Iowa caucuses just two weeks away, some on social media are erroneously claiming that Haley, who served as governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017, cannot legally hold the country’s highest office.

 

“Nikki Haley is Constitutionally ineligible to be President….or Vice President,” reads one post on X, formerly Twitter, that had received approximately 6,900 likes and shares as of Tuesday. The post links to an article that argues Haley is ineligible because her parents were not U.S. citizens when she was born.

 

In her 2012 autobiography, Haley wrote that her parents “were born in the Punjab region of India.” Haley’s office told South Carolina newspaper The State in 2015, when she was governor, that her father, Ajit Randhawa, became a U.S. citizen in 1978 — six years after Haley’s birth — while her mother, Raj Randhawa, was naturalized in 2003.

 

But experts agree Haley is a legitimate candidate as defined by the Constitution, regardless of her parents’ citizenship status. Her birth in Bamberg makes her a natural-born citizen, one of three qualifications to hold the U.S. presidency.

 

“Having been born in South Carolina, she is clearly a ‘natural born citizen,’ without regard to the fact that her parents were immigrants,” Geoffrey Stone, a professor of Law at the University of Chicago who is an expert on constitutional law, told The Associated Press.

 

Stone called claims otherwise “bonkers” and said that there are no legitimate arguments that would disqualify Haley from the presidency based on her parents’ citizenship.

 

The Constitution stipulates that the president must be “a natural born citizen” of the U.S., be at least 35 years old and have been a U.S. resident for at least 14 years. President Joe Biden is heading into 2024 with concerning numbers among Hispanic voters: A new USA Today/Suffolk survey shows him trailing Donald Trump by five percentage points, with many reluctant to back either candidate. While it’s an especially rough poll, others have also shown him struggling to match his 2020 numbers with a key swath of the Democratic base — and Hispanic leaders say they’re seeing the same problems on the ground.

 

“It’s a matador red flag flying out there — the Hispanic vote is totally up for grabs,” Domingo Garcia, national president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, told Semafor. “[Trump’s] cutting the margins. And in battleground states like Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, that can be a big difference.”

 

Conversations with leaders of Hispanic groups and political consultants in both parties underscored Biden’s difficult path forward. His challenges with Hispanic voters are not dissimilar to his problems with the broader electorate: Dissatisfaction over inflation, concerns about record-high border crossings, and lack of excitement over his policy accomplishments. And even as he works to shore up border security with a potential bipartisan deal in Congress, members of his own party warn he could also lose support in November if an agreement ends up being perceived as overly hostile to immigrant communities.

 

Garcia told Semafor that the “fear of a second Trump presidency” and the prospect of dramatically stepped-up deportations remains an asset for Biden, especially with women. But the president still hasn’t figured out how to package his presidency in an appealing way.

 

“They’re lacking a core message and right now Latino voters are really concerned about economics — inflation has eaten away at their paycheck, the cost of rent… trying to buy a house seems to be more elusive than ever,” he said.

 

Javier Palomarez, president and CEO of the United States Hispanic Business Council — a leading advocate for Hispanic-owned firms across the U.S. — criticized the administration’s triumphal “Bidenomics” push, arguing it’s not reflective of what people on the ground are actually experiencing.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed a rule, SR-NYSE-2023-09, that would enable radical environmentalists in the Biden administration to sell off to the Chinese Communist Party and other investors federal lands, water and even air via so-called “Natural Asset Companies” (NACs) on the condition that they would preclude virtually any productive use of such resources. Private land owners may also be impacted. The deadline for public comments to the SEC was extended to January 2nd (without notice via an update to the website.) We understand, it might be extended further to January 18. Nonetheless, public comment to counter this stealthy effort to sell-off – and sell-out – America is urgent. There are numerous problems with this scheme. As Margaret Byfield of American Stewards for Liberty warned in Real Clear Markets recently, these include: [NAC] companies would be given license to control lands, both public and private, and would be required not to conduct any “unsustainable activities, such as mining, that lead to the degradation of the ecosystems….Sovereign nations, such as the United States Government, can provide their lands toprivate investors, including those outside the United States. China, for example, may be able to invest in a NAC and effectively be a stakeholder in our national parks. Russia could assume control of lands currently leased to produce oil and place them off limits for future natural resource development. NACs would prevent the productive use of the land, which would hurt the landowners financially, but also reduce the supply of minerals, food, and other goods that come from the land. How might a company make control of land profitable while also not using the land? The method is admittedly confusing, perhaps intentionally. They profit from “ecological performance” such as “conservation, restoration, or sustainable management.” These NACs would quantify and monetize these natural outputs (such as air or water). The best comparison would be using the air we breathe as a cryptocurrency of sorts. And, these natural assets that collectively belong to all of us would now belong to corporations run by what many would call environmental special interests. Traditional accounting standards would not be used to regulate NACs. Likely, this is because NACs would not withstand scrutiny under generally accepted accounting principles. This effort would be a huge windfall for the federal government and the NACs. The government would create an entirely new revenue stream that would solely benefit the Davos-type [World Economic Forum] crowd that gives the current administration support. Both Big Government and radical environmentalists stand to benefit. These efforts intentionally prioritize environmentalism over human flourishing. [Prospective auditors] admit that “producing these essential goods and services and managing resources wisely is as valuable, or perhaps even more valuable, than the food production.” The next Committee on the Present Danger: China on Thursday, 28 December from 10-11:15 a.m. ET will examine the national security, economic and constitutional implications of such a gambit aimed at furthering the “fundamental transformation” of the United States into a country in which property rights and other personal freedoms are stripped from us in favor of a “global reset” that consolidates power and wealth in the tyrannical hands of foreign adversaries like: the Chinese Communist Party; other unelected, oppressive oligarchs; and unaccountable bureaucrats, here and abroad.

Epstein documents will start being released today, New York federal court

 

This confirmation comes after confusion about when the documents would be released following an appeal by one of the J. Does mentioned in the case.

 

The release of unsealed documents in the civil case related to Jeffrey Epstein is scheduled to begin Wednesday, a federal New York court told Just the News.

A spokesperson for the Southern District of New York told Just the News that previous reporting indicating that the release would be delayed until at least Jan. 22 was inaccurate. He said that the release of the much anticipated documents is scheduled to begin today.

 

The spokesperson said that only the individuals who have appealed for continued sealing of their personal information would be withheld from the release and that earlier reports claiming that the whole release would be delayed for 30 days were inaccurate.

 

The confusion over the timeline appears to stem from the most recent filing in the case, in which Judge Loretta Preska granted a 30-day extension to one of the individuals named in the case, J. Doe 107.

No offense anon, but almost every excellent colleges and universities were created by many religions, starting with and including puritans. Not all were created by Catholic but many were and if you got a Catholic education even into the 60s it was excellent.

I ain't gay, I've just been sober since 1986, man. I passed the 37 year mark in 2023. I've now been sober almost four times as long as the period during which I drank, which was about 10 years. Luckily, I never got in any trouble for my drinking, so there were some people in my life who didn't even think I had a problem (including my SO at the time). But I quit in 1986 because my SO was a raging alcoholic who refused to stop drinking and who eventually died from liver cancer, and when I drank, I drank like a Conehead.

Even though I never got in trouble for my drinking, I knew that I liked getting bombed a bit more than other people, so I knew it was a matter of time until I was a full-blown alcoholic like my SO.

So I quit, and now when I celebrate, like we're gonna do at the parade, I drink either a water with lime, or a non-alcoholic beer.

In hindsight, I gotta tell you all: keeping a clear sober brain through adulthood certainly does make one sharper than all the people around me, only because most of them drink at least socially, and they can't seem to keep up with someone who's brain isn't foggy.

This is why Q said, multiple times,THESE PEOPLE ARE STUPID.

This clearness of mind has greatly enhanced my spiritual life, my connection to God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and it has helped me kick ass in my professional life and here, doing the patriot shit that we do.

So that, in a nutshell, is the story of my life, and now I'll get back to the projects I've gotta complete today.

Analysis: Legal Scholar Asserts U.S. Constitution Disqualifies Nikki Haley from Presidential or Vice-Presidential Candidacy

 

In Nikki Haley’s case, it is well documented that neither one of her parents were citizens, natural born or naturalized, at the time of her birth in 1972. It has been previously reported that a South Carolina-based newspaper included a quote from the Office of Nikki Haley, stating that “her parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of her birth in 1972 and did not become citizens until 1978 and 2003.”

 

Thus, although the parents may have been lawful residents at the time of her birth on South Carolina soil, which may or may not confer her with the privileges of citizenship, it is important to note that she does not qualify for the Constitution’s higher requirement of natural-born citizenship.

 

In addition, the Twelfth Amendment states that “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” In short, because Haley is ineligible to serve as president, having not satisfied the Presidential Eligibility Clause, she also cannot serve as vice president. Now, the vast majority of legal scholarship offering an opinion to the contrary will cite the seminal Supreme Court decision, Wong Kim Ark. The relevant issue there, however, was not whether someone whose natural born citizenship was in question might serve in the highest office of the land, but rather whether such a person was entitled to the bare minimums of American citizenship.

 

Thus, the legal issues are completely different. The Court in Wong Kim Ark decided whether citizenship might be conferred upon an individual born on American soil to non-citizen parents. Importantly, in Wong Kim Ark, nowhere does the Court ever state that natural-born citizens are synonymous with citizens. While numerous equivalences are made between “natural-born” citizens (or “subjects;” the terms are used interchangeably throughout, even though there is a relevant legal distinction) and citizens, the Court notably took pains to distinguish between the two categories, merely analogizing the two for the purposes of ultimately arguing in favor of birthright citizenship.

 

Regardless of the ultimate legitimacy of the decision, which many constitutional scholars have contested over the intervening years, the important takeaway is that even in Wong Kim Ark, the supposed authority in favor of Haley’s eligibility to run for president, the Court never asserted that birthright citizenship would hereinafter absorb and eradicate the distinct category of “natural-born” citizenship.

 

It may well be argued that the reason the Court in Wong Kim Ark upheld that distinction was that it contemplated future cases like Nikki Haley’s, where a non-natural-born citizen might ask not merely for the bare minimum rights of citizenship but additional rights, namely the right to be eligible to run for president, which runs afoul of both the textual prerogative and original meaning of the Constitution itself.

 

The logic of this is intuitive: the bare necessities of American citizenship, consistent with the principles of natural right, do not entail that additional rights must be conferred on that basis alone. Nature, in other words, does not automatically confer one with the presidential office nor the bare minimum duties, such as age and time residing in the country, requirements that the Framers wrote into the Presidential Eligibility Clause.

American troops will remain in the Gulf state for at least another decade, sources told the broadcaster

 

Washington and Doha have quietly signed a deal to extend the presence of American troops at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, CNN has reported, citing unnamed US officials.

 

US forces will remain at the base, located in the desert southwest of Doha, for at least another ten years in line with the agreement, the broadcaster reported on Wednesday.

 

Al Udeid, which has been the biggest US military installation in the Middle East since 2003, can host up to 10,000 servicemen. It is also used by the Qatari and British air forces.

 

The deal, which hasn’t been announced publicly, was struck “at a time when Qatar has come under growing scrutiny for hosting senior Hamas leaders,” CNN stressed.

 

Officials in Doha responded to criticism by reminding that the Palestinian armed group Hamas was only allowed to open a political office in Qatar in 2012 at the behest of then-US President Barack Obama.

Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday exchanged hundreds of prisoners of war under a deal sponsored by the United Arab Emirates.

 

Ukrainian authorities said that 230 Ukrainian prisoners of war returned home. Russia’s Defense Ministry said that 248 Russian servicemen have been freed from Ukrainian captivity. The ministry said that the deal was made possible thanks to mediatory efforts by the United Arab Emirates.

 

There was no immediate acknowledgment from the UAE, which has maintained close business ties to Moscow throughout Russia’s war on Ukraine

 

The massive prisoner exchange followed other such deals earlier in the war, which is nearing the two-year mark.

Ukraine fired two Tochka-U missiles and seven rockets at the region late Tuesday, followed by six Tochka-U missiles and six Vilkha rockets on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

 

The Soviet-built Tochka-U missile system has a range of up to 120 kilometers (75 miles) and a warhead that can carry cluster munitions. Ukraine has received some cluster munitions from the United States but the Tochka-U and Vilkha can use their own cluster munitions.

Judge Dismisses Three Of Five Civil Counts Against Trump In Death of DC Officer Sicknick

 

A federal judge gave former President Donald Trump and two others some good news on Tuesday in their civil lawsuit about the death of U.S. Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick on January 6, 2021, right at the Capitol Building.

 

In a 12-page ruling, U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta, an Obama appointee, dismissed three of five civil counts in a lawsuit filed a year ago by Sicknick’s girlfriend, Sandra Garza. Her suit sought damages from Trump and Jan. 6 rioters Julian Khater and George Tanios for wrongful death, a conspiracy to violate civil rights, and negligence per se based on an anti-riot law in D.C.

 

In his ruling, Mehta dismissed the wrongful death act count and both negligence per se allegations, Fox News reported.

 

The outlet noted further: “While Mehta dismissed the wrongful death and negligence civil counts against Trump, Garza’s claims against the defendants under D.C.’s Survival Act and the conspiracy to violate a civil rights claim will proceed. The Survival Act allows an individual’s legal representative to pursue legal action on their behalf after their death.”

 

Mark Zaid, Garza’s attorney, said he and his client are “considering our next step options” to depose Trump after the ruling.

Sweetwater - Ann Elizabeth Inman Exum, 92, of Sweetwater, Tennessee left this earth for her heavenly home on October 22, 2019. Ann was born on September 15, 1927 to George and Gladys Inman in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio.

 

She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN. She resided at Sweetwater Nursing Center, Sweetwater, Tennessee for the past four years.

 

She is now joined with those who preceded her in death; Husband, Raymond Edward Exum, Jr., Daughter, Joyce Exum Olson, Son, Riley Hall Exum, Brother, Dr. Charles Inman.

 

Ann was an Interior Decorator in New Canaan, CT and Knoxville, Tennessee for many years. She was active in the community and served on the Knoxville Opera Company board. She co-chaired the Opera Ball for a number of years. She loved holidays, decorating and she traveled the world extensively in her lifetime. She was an avid storyteller and started a storytelling club shortly after suffering a stroke. She grew up during the depression in Cleveland Ohio and had many stories of hope and miracles during that sad time in history. Her father, George Inman was the inventor of the fluorescent light bulb while employed with General Electric. Her mother, Gladys, was one of the first woman in the country to receive a masters degree (from Columbia University). Ann graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was the fourth generation in her family to attend. She also met her husband there.

 

Ann is survived by her Son, J. Scott Exum (Carol Ann Lang) of Escondido, CA, Daughter in law, Debbie Exum of Sweetwater, TN and Daughter, Jennifer Exum of Vista, CA.

 

Grandchildren; Gena (Pat) Murphy of Bluffton, SC, Matthew Olson of Sevierville, TN, Aaron Olson of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Andrew (Sarah) Exum of Arlington TN, Joseph (Heather) Exum of Lenoir City, TN, Ashley (Doug) Loomis of Dacula, GA., Annie MacKenzie of San Diego, CA, Meghan MacKenzie of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Timothy Lang of Escondido, CA and Jennifer Lang of San Diego, CA.

 

Great Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kenzie and Patrick Murphy, Mary Katherine and Jack Loomis, Sean, Cate and Norah Exum.

 

Sister, Carol Everson of Marblehead-Lakeside, Ohio, sister in law Nancy Inman of San Luis Obispo, CA.

 

Many nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends at Kyker Funeral Homes in Sweetwater on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 from 1-2 p.m. with service at 2 p.m. in Kyker's Chapel with The Reverend Dr. Charles W. Starks of Church Street United Methodist Church, Knoxville, TN will conduct the service.
