it's well known that it was that a Jesuit could never be pope. It was maybe not a formal rule, but it was a rule.

when the prayer is 'for the intentions of the pope' it is always assumed that they MUST align with the intentions of Jesus Christ.

So it's OK to pray for the pope, but the pope doesn't get to do and say anything he wants to do and say.

And he can't change scripture or doctrine.
