Gates and his globalist buddies (Schwab, etc) look at it in a way that everyone is consuming their resources. They fully believe that the water, air, food, petroleum, and all other natural resources belongs exclusively to them, and we are stealing from them. As a result, they want to kill off the majority of the population. They do want to keep enough people around, to do their slave labor for them though.
