The Battleground States: Super Tuesday
Super Tuesday is considered the big prize in the presidential nominating process, a big election day that makes expensive and time-consuming demands of candidates, who must appeal to voters from the northeast tip of Maine to the southwest corner of California. Its contests encompass wide swaths of the American electorate, both geographically and demographically, and require candidates to make pitches to such diverse interests as Minnesota farmers, California tech workers and federal employees in Virginia.
Super Tuesday has roots going back to 1984, but became a single-day force in 1988, when Southern states banded together to counter what some had critically dubbed the "Iowa syndrome," whereby a small Midwestern state had what they saw as outsize power as the first nominating contest. If the South couldn't be first, it could be the biggest, the theory was, and candidates would need to spend time there addressing concerns of Southern voters.
The delegate haul also holds the promise of elevating a particular candidate, or forcing one or more out of the race.

While the 2024 election appears likely to be a rematch between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, Trump’s lone major competitor, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, is still in the race.
More than a third of all GOP delegates will be up for grabs in this year’s Super Tuesday. Trump has so far secured wins in New Hampshire, Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina.

What Is the Purpose of Delegates?
Delegates represent the interests of a group of people within a political party by voting on their behalf at a party’s national convention. Delegates from both parties vote on a specific candidate in the presidential primary election to select the party’s nominee that advances to the general election. The process of awarding delegates to specific political candidates varies between the Democratic and Republican parties:
Democratic delegates: Democrats use a proportional method of awarding delegates, assigning them to presidential nominees based on a percentage of support through state caucuses or primary votes.
Republican delegates: Each state can choose whether to award Republican delegates based on proportional support or through a ‘winner-take-all’ method, where all the state’s delegates are awarded to the candidate who won the most votes.
4 Types of Delegates
There are four types of delegates that help determine their respective party’s nominee:

Pledged: Pledged delegates are Democratic delegates who are required to vote for a specific candidate, i.e. the one who won the most votes in the primary, in a caucus, or at their national convention. There are three types of pledged delegates, including district delegates (who are elected at the district level), at-large delegates (who are elected and distributed statewide), and add-on delegates (who represent elected officials or party leaders).

Unpledged: Unpledged delegates are delegates in the Democratic party who are not pledged to vote for a specific candidate. They are also known as superdelegates.

Bound: Bound delegates are Republican party delegates who are required to support a specific candidate as determined by their state primaries or caucuses.

Unbound: Unbound delegates are Republican party delegates who are not obligated by any state election or caucus result to support a specific candidate. These delegates are also known as superdelegates.
What Is the Difference Between Delegates and Superdelegates?
Standard delegates are selected by votes and pledged to a specific nominee—they agree to support that candidate at their party convention. Superdelegates, also known as unpledged or unbound delegates, are automatic delegates selected to the national convention, but can support any presidential candidate of their choosing.
In the Democratic party, superdelegates often consist of Democratic members of Congress, Democratic National Committee members, and former Presidents or Vice Presidents. In the Republican party, superdelegates consist of three members of each state's national committee.

Now, House Republicans pursuing an impeachment inquiry focused on the relationship between the president and his relatives’ business dealings have also homed in on Americore. The House Oversight Committee is set to interview Jim Biden on Feb. 21 as part of the inquiry.

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault was established to preserve a wide variety
of plant seeds from locations worldwide in an underground cavern built 120
meter inside the permafrost mountains.
The seed vault holds duplicate samples, or "spare" copies, of seeds held
in gene banks worldwide. The seed vault will provide insurance against the
loss of seeds in gene banks, as well as a refuge for seeds in the case of
large scale regional or global crises.
