if something like 7-10% of people are gay, you can't shoot or banish them all, espec when they turn out to be your son, spouse or close friend

that's where the lefty activists come in - they want way more than tolerance (legal protection and civility). They use fringe gps to destabilize cultures to destroy them.
Many fringy people are content to remain fringe as long as they are treated ok in social situations. Activists always try to push them into the center with lies and promises. if they're stupid, they go for it - right up until the manipulators drop them like a hot potato once they are no longer useful
