In the 70's there were some big kids that said nickel bag = $5 and dime bag = $10.
Then later in the 80's in my neighborhood it was used for 1/8 oz (nickel) and 1/4 oz (dime) and the cost kept going up.
Therefore, I'm not sure if nickel/dime really had any kind of consistent national/global definition.
Now that you mention it I think it was 1/4 and 1/2 back in the 80's.
It wasn't until the prices really started rising when people had to start buying 1/8ths.
The best deals at the dispensary near me is in the $180-$250 range for an oh-z (incl taxes).
Regular price avgs around $350.
The key is to buy the specials only - don't fall in love with a specific strain or grow it your damn self.
There's an arms race near me as the thc is hitting damn near 30% these days.
Which is nice as I get 20% sweet spot stuff on the BOGO specials since the higher % is trendy popular with the yutes in my hood - thus nobody buys the lower stuff.

No biggie for me as I am 10ish days on a few weeks off at this stage.
If I was chronic town about it I'd spend money on grow lights and recoup my costs over time.
