Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Industrial Region of Khabarovsk on April 5 after detecting elevated radiation levels. Authorities have closed access to the area between Sidorenko and Suvorova streets while they identify and dispose of the radiation source. Officials state there is no broader threat to the public.
Road closures and heightened security will remain in effect in the affected area until authorities complete the disposal operation.

Russia declares 'state of emergency' after mystery radiation leak in Khabarovsk
High radiation levels were found near a pylon in Khabarovsk - around 1.5 miles away from residential buildings.
The area has been cordoned off but the source of the radiation leak has not been made public.
Khabarovsk head of civil defence Andrey Kolchin said: "A source of increased radiation levels was discovered… the area was cordoned.
"It was decided to introduce a state of emergency in Khabarovsk to carry out work faster."
No one has been injured or exposed to radiation and "there is no threat to the health of citizens", TASS quoted the local branch of Russia's consumer safety watchdog as saying.
A source at Radon nuclear agency said: "The radiation source was removed and placed in a protective container, transported to a radioactive waste storage facility.
"There is no environmental pollution and no threat to society."
A state of emergency is expected to remain in place for the next three days while authorities continue to monitor radiation levels and work out the cause.

Tiny amount of radioactive iodine measured in Tromsø
The Norwegian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (DSA) underlines that the levels of Iodine-131 measured pose no harm to humans nor the environment.
The measurement was seen when the filter at the directorate’s High North laboratory in Tromsø for the week March 21-26 was analyzed.
Iodine-131 is a radioactive isotope with a short half-life of eight days which means that the release has happened recently and it will decay away totally within a few months. The isotope comes from a nuclear reactor, and is used in medial diagnostic.
None of the other radiation filter stations in Norway or in other Nordic countries have reported detection of Iodine-131 in recent weeks. There are such radiation filters at Svanhovd in the Pasvik valley near the border with Russia, as well as in Rovaniemi, northern Finland.
Tiny amounts of radioactive Iodine have previously been measured at different locations in Northern Europe, but for the most it has been difficult to point to from where the releases are coming.
When Iodine-131 is the only isotope measured, the releases are most likely not from a nuclear reactor incident, as such events would cause releases of several other isotopes, like Strontium-90 and Cesium-137.
