McDonald's has bought out all the franchise restaurants in Israel after seeing a sales hit due to boycotts. The locations have become a flashpoint in the Israel-Hamas war, receiving global media attention.

Bloomberg reported that McDonald's Corp has decided on the buyout from Alonyal Ltd, taking direct control of the operations several months after its Israel franchise became a focal issue during the early stages of the war on Gaza.

"McDonald's remains committed to the Israeli market and to ensuring a positive employee and customer experience in the market going forward," said Jo Sempels, who leads the McDonald's segment that oversees international markets with licenced restaurants.

According to Calcalist, an Israeli financial news website, the chain intends to search for a new franchise for its Israeli operations a few months after finalizing the acquisition. McDonald's announced that the deal with Alonyal hinges on specific prerequisites, and that the transaction is expected to conclude in the next few months.

Over 30 years ago, Alonyal introduced the McDonald's brand to Israel, expanding the business to include 225 locations and over 5,000 staff members, Bloomberg reported.

Local franchise operators run the majority of McDonald's stores around the world and in many ways act as independent businesses.

McDonald's sparked outrage among pro-Palestine activists last October when its Israel franchise announced it was giving free meals to Israeli soldiers in its branches in the country.

This prompted franchise operators in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Pakistan to publicly criticize the actions.

In a statement a few days later, Chris Kempczinski, the CEO of McDonald's, said that the company "firmly condemns violence and hate speech" and feels "deeply disturbed by the acts of antisemitism and Islamophobia," Bloomberg reported.

Thousands in danger after Russian levee break

Some residents in the city of Orsk in Orenburg Region are being evacuated

Around 4,000 households are at risk of flooding after a dike holding back the Ural River suffered a breach in the Russian city of Orsk in Orenburg Region on Friday.

The breach that forced the evacuations happened near the old town section of the city south of the river.

Earlier in the day, two leaks were discovered in the levee in the eastern part of the city. Maintenance crews were dispatched to repair the damage. Local authorities also warned residents to collect documents and essential belongings and proceed to temporary accommodation centers.

The region has been experiencing heavy rains and flooding in recent days due to which the water level of the Ural River near Orsk has been almost a meter higher than normal. Over 100 roads and 47 bridges have been closed due to the rising waters.

Local authorities have blamed the flooding on a combination of factors, including a sharp rise in temperatures melting the snow from the Urals mountains. The outflow from the Iriklinsky reservoir, which has served to control the river, has reportedly broken all records at 2,150 cubic meters per second – although this is still not enough to cope with the inflow of 2,533 cubic meters per second.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said, “My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day.”

No immediate reports of damages or injuries have occurred.

Israel Sacks Top Officers Over Aid Convoy Attack As Biden Gives 'Ultimatum' To Netanyahu

On Thursday President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the Israeli military's killing of seven aid workers with the World Central Kitchen which happened Monday, and has since resulted in rare expression of US mainstream media outrage.

The White House readout suggested a tense exchange, with Biden conveying tough words to the prime minister. "President Biden emphasized that the strikes on humanitarian workers and the overall humanitarian situation are unacceptable. He made clear the need for Israel to announce and implement a series of specific, concrete, and measurable steps to address civilian harm, humanitarian suffering, and the safety of aid workers," the readout said.

"He made clear that US policy with respect to Gaza will be determined by our assessment of Israel’s immediate action on these steps," the statement added. Widespread media reports interpreted this as an unprecedented "ultimatum" given to the close US ally.

For example Reuters wrote that Biden "threatened to condition support for Israel's offensive in Gaza on it taking concrete steps to protect aid workers and civilians, seeking for the first time to leverage US aid to influence Israeli military behavior."

But as the reported Palestinian death toll in Gaza reaches and surpasses 33,000 - according to local health ministry figures - the administration in reality appears no closer to taking any action on placing conditions on use of US weaponry. Going back to Oct.7, Biden has only consistently vowed the opposite - that the defense aid would flow to Tel Aviv uninterrupted. This despite that one of the aid workers was American.

But the Israelis, seeking to tap down international and US anger, have said an internal investigation has concluded that the IDF drone team behind the attack was in "serious violation" of the military's rules. Writes The Wall Street Journal, "The Israeli drone team that killed seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen after mistaking them for Hamas militants lacked the evidence to order the strikes and twice violated the military’s operating rules, an Israeli military investigation found."

"The investigation's findings indicate that the incident should not have occurred," the IDF said. "Those who approved the strike were convinced that they were targeting armed Hamas operatives and not WCK employees." The IDF still says it was a Hamas terrorists initially being targeted. "The investigation found that the forces identified a gunman on one of the aid trucks, following which they identified an additional gunman," the statement said.

Zimbabwe launches ‘gold’ currency to replace dollar

The move is expected to help reduce inflation, the governor of the southern African nation’s central bank has said

Zimbabwe has introduced a new national currency aimed at stabilizing the economy and countering the devaluation of the local dollar in the southern African nation. Harare has also appealed to the United Nations for $2 billion in aid to help with food insecurity.

The ‘structured currency’ – Zimb Gold (ZiG) – will be anchored mainly on gold and foreign currency reserves, Zimbabwe’s Reserve Bank governor, John Mushayavanhu, announced on Friday while presenting the country’s 2024 monetary policy statement.

“With effect from today, banks shall convert the current Zimbabwe dollar balances to ZiG,” Mushayavanhu said, adding that it “will circulate with other currencies in the basket.”

He stated that the central bank would also implement a market-determined exchange rate.

“If we implement these measures, we expect them to have an impact on inflation,” the governor said.

The Zimbabwean dollar has depreciated against the US dollar every trading day this year and has weakened 72%, making it the world’s second-worst-performing currency, Bloomberg reported late last month. According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, the country’s annual inflation rate increased to a seven-month high of 55.3% in March, up from 47.6% in February. The rising costs of food and utilities, including housing, were the primary sources of the surge, the agency reported.

On Wednesday, the landlocked country declared a national state of disaster, with President Emmerson Mnangagwa stating that severe droughts will leave more than 2.7 million people without food this year.

In February, Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube stated that the government was considering linking the exchange rate to hard assets, including gold, and establishing a currency board.

The ZiG launch comes nearly a year after the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) defied an IMF warning and introduced a gold-backed digital currency for peer-to-peer and peer-to-business transactions. Last May, the RBZ announced the sale of gold-backed digital tokens worth approximately $40 million as part of efforts to stabilize the Zimbabwean dollar.

The IMF had warned Harare that the issuance of such tokens comes with “macroeconomic and financial stability risks, legal and operational risks, and governance risks” that must be thoroughly evaluated.

We must never stop working to protect life, preserve our freedoms and maintain some semblance of our humanity.

It wants the power to decide who lives or dies and whose rights are worthy of protection.

Abortion may still be front and center in the power struggle between the Left and the Right over who has the right to decide—the government or the individual—when it comes to bodily autonomy, the right to privacy, sexual freedom, the rights of the unborn, and property interests in one’s body, but there’s so much more at play.

In the 50-plus years since the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade, the government has come to believe that it not only has the power to determine who is deserving of constitutional rights in the eyes of the law but it also has the authority to deny those rights to an American citizen.

This is how the abortion debate has played into the police state’s hands: by laying the groundwork for discussions about who else may or may not be deserving of rights.

Despite the Supreme Court having overturned its earlier rulings recognizing abortion as a constitutional right under the Fourteenth Amendment, the government continues to play fast and loose with the lives of the citizenry all along the spectrum of life.

Take a good, hard look at the many ways in which Americans are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

American families who have their dogs shot, their homes trashed and their children terrorized or, worse, killed by errant SWAT team raids in the middle of the night are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Disabled individuals who are being strip searched, handcuffed, arrested and “diagnosed” by police as dangerous or mentally unstable merely because they stutter and walk unevenly are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

School-aged children as young as 4-years-old who are leg shackled, handcuffed and strip searched for violating school zero tolerance policies by chewing a Pop Tart into the shape of a gun and playing an imaginary game of cops and robbers, or engaging in childish behavior such as crying or jumping are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Unarmed citizens who are tasered or shot by police for daring to hesitate, stutter, move a muscle, flee or disagree in any way with a police order are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Likewise, Americans—young and old alike—who are shot by police because they pointed a garden hose at a police officer, reached for their registration in their glove box, relied upon a cane to steady themselves, or were seen playing with air rifles or BB guns are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Female motorists who are unlucky enough to be pulled over for a questionable traffic infraction only to be subjected by police to cavity searches by the side of the road are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Male pedestrians and motorists alike who are being subjected to roadside strip searches and rectal probes by police based largely on the color of their skin are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

American citizens subjected to government surveillance whereby their phone calls are being listened in on, their mail and text messages read, their movements tracked and their transactions monitored are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Homeowners who are being fined and arrested for raising chickens in their backyard, allowing the grass in their front yards to grow too long, and holding Bible studies in their homes are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Decorated military veterans who are being arrested for criticizing the government on social media such as Facebook are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

Homeless individuals who are being harassed, arrested and run out of towns by laws that criminalize homelessness are being denied their rights under the Constitution.

So what gives? Is Biden playing both sides? That is the answer Doocy sought to extract from Kirby.

"On Oct. 7, President Biden said, 'My administration's support for Israel is rock solid and unwavering.' That is not true anymore, correct?" Doocy confronted.

"How is his support unwavering, but you're also reconsidering policy choices?" the Fox News reporter followed up, referring to readout.

Kirby, however, was not happy with Doocy's reality check. Kirby claimed Biden can remain "ironclad" in his support of Israel while at the same time demanding that "the manner in which they're defending themselves against the Hamas threat needs to change."

"Will there perhaps be some policy changes we might have to make if we don't see policy changes out of Israel? Yes," Kirby admitted.

"How is it unwavering? It sounds like you guys are trying to have it both ways here," Doocy pointed out before summarizing what Kirby had said: "'We support Israel, but we are going to make all these changes because we don't support Israel.'"

Kirby went on to deny that Biden is changing his policy toward Israel — despite saying just seconds earlier that "both can be true," referring to supporting Israel and advocating for policy changes — before justifying the policy changes.

Letitia James issues 10-day ultimatum to company that guaranteed Trump’s $175M bond

Former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided having his assets seized by New York Attorney General Letitia James last month after posting a $175 million bond at the last minute. But now, James is demanding clarity from the company that guaranteed it.

Axios reported Thursday that James' office recently filed a motion to compel either Trump's lawyers or the Knight Specialty Insurance Company (KSIC) to prove that it is financially able to comply with the conditions of the bond. Her motion gives both entities a 10-day deadline to "justify the surety" of the bond, or prove it can actually pay the bond amount. It remains unclear what actions James would take after the 10-day deadline. Presumably she could demand the court revoke the previous agreement and demand the full $464 million bond.

According to CBS News, KSIC is not registered with the state's Department of Financial Services, and the bond paperwork notably did not include a power of attorney authorization for the bond provider, nor did it include a financial statement from KSIC showing it was capable of shouldering the $175 million burden.

"In all the years I've been doing this, you always have to have a certificate from the Department of Financial Services saying that you're licensed to issue a surety bond," attorney Bruce Lederman, who has experience filing bonds in the Empire State, told CBS.

The chairman of KSIC is Don Hankey, who is a billionaire Trump supporter involved in the subprime auto loan industry. the New Republic reported this week that Hankey "carved out his $7.4 billion fortune" through "predatory practices, targeting low-income customers with high-interest auto loans." And the New York bond is not the first time Hankey has used his wealth on the former president's behalf.

"Hankey is also believed to be the largest shareholder in Axos Financial, according to MSNBC’s Lisa Rubin — a financial institution that, in 2022, refinanced more than $50 million of Trump's loans on Trump Tower and Trump National Doral Miami, according to documents filed with the Office of Government Ethics," the New Republic's Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling wrote.

A New York appeals court reduced the bond Trump had to pay to appeal his civil fraud judgment from $464 million to $175 million in late March. by paying the bond, the former president was able to avoid James seizing his bank accounts and real estate assets to satisfy the judgment. Even though the bond amount itself was lowered, Trump will still have to pay the full judgment amount of more than $450 million should he lose his appeal.

The CDC has until mid-January 2025 to turn over all 7.8 million free-text entries from V-safe, which registered 8.5 million users from December 2020 to April 2021, when the vaccines became generally available to adults.

More than 10 million participants have submitted 151 million health surveys through the app as of January, according to the agency. They answer questions at daily, then weekly and finally quarterly intervals, making it a more reliable gauge of vaccine injury than the passively monitored Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System.

Even COVID vaccine recipients who escape injury may not be getting much protection from the latest formulations of the jabs, ongoing research suggests.

Ensuring Israel’s social and economic resilience during challenging times is a national effort, and we must stand strong in the face of uncertainty for the sake of our future.

As Jews around the world prepare to celebrate the holiday of Passover – marking the Exodus from Egypt, and celebrating the freedom and sovereignty of the Jewish people – we cannot avoid the context in which this holiday will be celebrated in 2024 after the October 7 massacre of Jewish people in their sovereign state.

Today, although we may be far from declaring victory over those who wish to destroy us, the celebration must go on, just as Israeli society must carry on to ensure our people and nation will continue to thrive and flourish in the day after the war, whenever that may be, while wearing a yellow ribbon.

The famous yellow ribbon, which became a universal symbol of solidarity with the Israeli hostages taken into Gaza by Hamas, must also include, in this case, fallen soldiers and their families, survivors of October 7, hundreds of thousands of evacuated residents from Israel’s North and South, reservists who stopped their lives to serve and their families who are holding down the fort at home, and businesses that lost everything. We must continue to advance civil and economic life while remembering those who were taken, those who are mourning, and those who lost their livelihood to the ravages of war. This will be our modern-day victory and will ensure that our people have a bright future ahead.

Over six months since the Hamas massacre, 134 hostages still remain in captivity, the IDF operation in Gaza is ongoing, and many evacuated civilians still don’t have a return date. With that, we have a moral obligation to ensure that Israel will not abandon decades of economic growth and a thriving civil life. If small businesses sink and the markets slow down, we’ll see Israel’s stock market drop and its credit rating downgraded, as we witnessed last month when Moody’s, the international credit agency, reduced Israel’s rating. If we truly want to be victorious, the civilian front must keep Israel’s economic engine running, and we must be resilient in times of national crises.

The Department of Justice has filed to change the venue of Ashley Babbitt's wrongful death lawsuit from California to Washington D.C. A hearing on the request is scheduled for April 8 in San Diego. US District Judge Cynthia Bashant, an Obama-appointing, is overseeing the case. Babbitt was shot to death by Capitol Police on January 6, 2021 as she was attempting to enter the Capitol Building. She was unarmed.

Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California on behalf of Babbitt's family, seeking justice for the tragic death of the veteran, who was shot and killed by Capitol Police Leiuetentat Michael Byrd on January 6 in the U.S. Capitol.

Outlined in Judicial Watch's complaint, the shooting took place at the east entrance to the Speaker's Lobby, where Babbitt was unarmed and had her hands raised when she was fatally shot by Lt. Byrd. The complaint highlights Byrd's admission that he shot Babbitt without assessing her intentions or identifying her as female.

In March, Judicial Watch filed an opposition to the Justice Department's request to transfer the venue of the case to the District of Columbia. The organization pointed out that under federal law, a “civil action against the United States may be brought in any judicial district in which the plaintiff resides,” and “a civil action on a tort claim against the United States may be prosecuted in the judicial district where the plaintiff resides.”

The terrorist group wants more innocents dead, to turn the world against Israel.

As for the “horrified” lefties: Let’s not forget how they cheered the Hamas atrocities — filmed by the terrorists themselves — that broke the ceasefire on Oct. 7 and began this war.

That day, Hamas intentionally killed 1,200 innocents, maimed others and took 240 civilian hostages, many of whom have since died in captivity.

The terrorists butchered children, raped women and played games with the corpses.

And the Western left celebrated, touting the terrorists as “heroic resistance” fighters and saying that Israel had it coming; they put Hamas paragliders on their rally posters and social media posts.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lamented the deaths of the “innocent” aid workers “unintentionally” hit by Israeli rockets: “We will do everything so that this thing does not happen again.”

Hamas, meanwhile, is doing all it can to see it does happen again — and, if the terror cadres survive this war, to repeat Oct. 7 endlessly.

Every lefty shouting “genocide” over this war is supporting the side that actually aims to commit that ultimate crime.
