what I found yesterday, being maybe 100 miles from full eclipse, and no clouds at all, was you couldn't see any eclipse with your eyes, it was just like looking at the sun. And those video screen caps, that I thought were cool looking, and did show the eclipse in, perhaps, a blue lens flare, weren't noticeable when I was doing that. Not easy at all to use a point and shoot or smart phone to get a picture of the eclipse in bright sunny cloudless conditions. Pointing the phone / point and shoot camera at the eclipse did make some cool photos I thought, but not great quality, accurate photos.
