Nashville Police Say ‘Ongoing Investigation’ Prevents Release Of Covenant Shooter’s Manifesto

Attorneys representing Nashville, Tennessee argued Tuesday in court that police were still investigating aspects of the shooting committed at the Covenant School last March, when a transgender-identifying shooter murdered six people, and, therefore, the city is unable to release documents related to the case such as the shooter’s writings.

The argument came during a hearing over whether to release the killer’s writings, which have thus far been sealed from the public. The hearing, overseen by Judhr I’Ashea L. Myles, took place at the Davidson County Chancery Court in Nashville, comes just over a year after three young children and three school staff members were killed during the shooting at Covenant, a private Christian school in Nashville.

During the hearing, Lora Fox, an attorney for the city of Nashville, indicated that the city’s police were still investigating the shooting, including probing whether the transgender-identifying killer had any accomplices. The shooter was shot dead by authorities on the scene of the crime, and there has thus far been no indication that anybody else was involved.

Notably, Fox stated that Nashville police expected to wrap up their investigation by July 1. Fox said the police are prepared to release most of their investigative file, excluding some details about school security and diagrams of the school. When questioned by Myles, she also said that she believed that the killer’s journal, which was found in the car she left at the school, would be able to be released to the public with some redactions.

The debate during the hearing pinned on interpretation of the Tennessee Public Records Act and the Tennessee Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights. Lawyers for groups advocating for the documents to be released say there is compelling public interest for the public to view the killer’s writings.

“The only question before the court is whether there are any exemptions that preclude public access to these records,” said Doug Pierce, a lawyer for the National Police Association, one of the groups represented in the lawsuit. “There is a presumption of openness. Those parties have the burden of proof here. The statutes should be construed to allow the public access to records.”

A lawyer for Judicial Watch, which is representing one of the groups in court, argued that Metro Nashville needs to provide a more detailed list of materials obtained from the shooter, as well as specific reasons why they’re exempted from release.

Lawyers for both Covenant School and Covenant Presbyterian Church, where the school is located, argued against the release of the writings. The church asked for more limited redactions pertaining to security while the school requested a broad ban on any of the killer’s writings being released.

Peter Klett, a lawyer for the school, argued that releasing the shooter’s writings could trigger more hatred and violence toward children and Christians. “Hateful words of the shooter certainly may have an audience in the general public,” he said, arguing against their release.

Limited portions of the alleged manifesto were leaked by commentator Steven Crowder, who obtained three photographs of the writings. The pages included racial slurs against white children as well as an itinerary for “death day,” which articulated the shooter’s intent to have a “high death count.”

Brent Leatherwood, a parent of several children who attend the Covenant School and the head of the Southern Baptist denomination’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, briefly spoke with reporters outside the courtroom after the Tuesday hearing. Leatherwood said the “deranged ramblings” of the shooter did not qualify as public records.

He said the lawyers seeking the release of the writings acted like they were representing the shooter because their desire to release the writings would give her notoriety.

The case is expected to resume on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. when the court is expected to hear arguments from Covenant school parents and rebuttals from the groups seeking the release of the documents. It is unclear when Myles will issue her decision on whether to release the writings or not.

Democrat Senator Menendez Poised To Blame His Wife For Alleged Crimes: Reports

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) appears set to try to blame his wife, Nadine Menendez, for the federal bribery charges that the couple is facing, according to newly unsealed court documents.

“At trial, as part of his defense, Senator Menendez may elect to testify to communications with his wife that serve to materially decrease any inference of culpability on Senator Menendez’s part,” the motion states. “Senator Menendez will explain, for example, what he and his wife discussed contemporaneously with their dinners with Egyptian officials (which colored his understanding of the purpose of such dinners); the explanations that Nadine provided for why [co-defendants Wael Hanna and Jose Uribe] had provided her certain monetary items; the reasons why he sent his wife a series of questions that other Senators purportedly intended to ask an Egyptian official; and many more topics.”

The 70-year-old senator is planning to show the “absence of any improper intent on Senator Menendez’s part” by “demonstrating the ways” that his wife “withheld information from Sen. Menendez or otherwise led him to believe that nothing unlawful was taking place,” the document continued.

The document added that by “demonstrating the absence of any improper intent on Senator Menendez’s part, they may inculpate Nadine.”

Menendez and his wife were indicted on federal charges in September for allegedly accepting bribes from three businessmen in exchange for actions that he took as chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee. According to the DOJ, the alleged bribes were intended to protect the businessmen and to benefit Egypt.

Prosecutors later said in a revised indictment that Menendez also allegedly used his clout to help a friend secure a multi-million dollar investment deal from the Qatari government, in part by taking actions that benefited Qatar.

In a subsequent superseding indictment, Menendez was also charged with conspiracy, obstruction of justice, public official acting as a foreign agent, bribery, extortion and honest services wire fraud.

A nonprofit founded and funded by Soros gave cash to boost the campaigns of congressional Democrats, pro-choice campaigners and black candidates in down-ballot races, a filing with the Federal Election Commission shows.

Democracy PAC spread $21 million to a dozen super PACs in the first quarter, including $4 million donations to both the House Majority PAC and the Senate Majority PAC.

It gave $2.5 million to Planned Parenthood Votes, and the same sum to Black PAC, which boosts candidates in state-level races for governors, attorneys general and lawmakers.

Over 350 Humanitarian Sites and Convoys Have Been Attacked in Gaza

Prior to the Israeli military’s slaughter of seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) aid workers in Gaza this month, Middle East Eye (MEE) reports that at least 357 humanitarian-run sites and convoys had been attacked.

As with the incident involving the slain WCK workers which included an American citizen, the humanitarian orgs shared their coordinates in advance of operations with the warring parties. Israel hit them anyway and UN officials have warned of great difficulty in repairing the broken humanitarian notification system.

Current data shows that at least 216 aid workers have been killed during Israel’s indiscriminate bombing and relentless war on the Palestinian people trapped in the besieged, highly dense, coastal enclave. Aid workers told MEE the “scale of the incidents was unprecedented, even compared to the most dangerous war zones and emergencies they have experienced.” The vast majority of aid workers slaughtered have been employed by UNRWA, the UN aid agency for Palestinian refugees.

Nearly 34,000 people have been confirmed killed so far amidst Israel’s genocidal campaign, including more than 20,000 women and children. Brice de la Vingne, the head of the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) emergency unit said “To be frank, every single day we are discussing internally whether to leave Gaza. We should not be there.” He added, “The level of risk we are taking, I’ve never seen.”

He explained that aid operations in other wars are conducted outside the areas of actual fighting but the entire Strip has become a war zone. “In Gaza, we are in this nightmarish hell scenario where we are working in an environment where people are not supposed to be,” Vingne lamented.

According to the report, “The majority of the hits to deconfliction humanitarian sites – 352 – were to locations run by UNRWA, the largest aid organization operating in Gaza, including a food distribution center and schools sheltering thousands of civilians.”

MEE also found there were at least five other occasions where humanitarian sites or convoys were attacked including “a compound in Al-Mawasi housing staff working for the International Rescue Committee and Medical Aid for Palestine, the Gaza City offices of Doctors of the World, a [MSF] convoy in Gaza City and an MSF shelter in Al-Mawasi, and an American Near East Refugee (ANERA) shelter in Deir al-Balah.”

Despite Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s announcement of a new deconfliction cell for humanitarian aid groups, Jamie McGoldrick, the outgoing top UN aid official in Gaza, told the outlet “nothing substantive” has changed. Two weeks after the high-profile massacre of the WCK employees, communication between aid workers and the Israeli military regarding their location remains broken down or non-existent.

McGoldrick, whose final day at the post was last Friday, maintains that aid workers in the Gaza Strip require not only a hotline to correspond directly with the IDF but also must be provided with satellite phones and two-way radios. In other conflict zones, this is standard operating procedure. Not so amid Israel’s onslaught in the Strip, however, these devices are not furnished to aid workers ostensibly because the IDF fears they will fall into the hands of Hamas.

As Israel uses starvation as a weapon of war, the entire population in Gaza is on the brink of famine. Officials from the State Department and USAID have admitted that famine is already taking place in the northern parts of the Strip, where McGoldrick has warned that despite Israeli assurances the aid distribution system has seen no improvement.

The broken deconfliction system for aid workers in the Strip will only spell more deaths of deprivation, experts estimate that the death toll will surpass 100,000 by August if the situation remains unchanged. Moreover, Gaza’s medical system and infrastructure has been decimated by the Israeli campaign. Last month, the World Health Organization released statistics exposing that in excess of 400 medical facilities have been hit, killing nearly 700 people.

The Israeli air, land, and sea blockade imposed on the illegally occupied enclave 17 years ago was severely tightened after the October 7th Hamas attack on southern Israel. Gallant announced days later that the “human animals” living in the Strip, which includes more than a million children, will be indefinitely cut off from food, water, fuel, and medicine.

20 arrests in clampdown against gang suspected of laundering EUR 10 million

The criminal network had been active for more than 8 years in the EU and South America

20 members of an intercontinental criminal network engaged in drug trafficking and money laundering have been arrested following a large-scale operation on 6 and 7 March in Spain and Portugal. The suspects laundered more than EUR 10 million using stolen identities of Colombian, Portuguese, Spanish and Venezuelan nationals. They had also created an ad hoc network of companies capable of financing the network’s activities and laundering ill-gotten profits.

The crackdown was the result of a long-running investigation led by the Spanish Police and Spanish Regional Catalan Police, supported by Europol and also involving Portuguese authorities. During the action days, law enforcement officers carried out 13 searches that led to the seizure of:

EUR 156 000 in cash,

gold bars worth EUR 35 000,

more than 50 vehicles,

jewellery and over 30 luxury watches worth a total of EUR 500 000,

electronic devices, such as mobile phones, and a weapon.

More than 100 bank accounts and 10 real estate properties worth over EUR 3 million were also blocked as a result of the operation.

Europol supported the investigation since September 2021 by providing operational analysis, technical expertise and operational coordination. On the action days, a money laundering specialist with a mobile office was deployed in Spain.

An investigation triggered by a cocaine seizure

The investigation began in 2018, when the police seized 1 400 kilos of cocaine hidden in a shipment from Brazil at the facilities of a company located in Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona). The subsequent operation led to the arrest of several members of an illegal drug trafficking network in 2019 and 2020.

With the support of Europol, law enforcement authorities discovered that the seized shipment was part of an international drug-trafficking operation aiming at distributing the drugs not only in Spain but across the EU. The high capacity for drug distribution uncovered the necessary economic network that made it possible to finance the drug shipments.

Numerous hard-to-trace methods to launder money

The investigation revealed that the shipments were carried out by a large group of people and companies based mainly in Almería, Andalucía, Catalunya and Madrid. Authorities also uncovered that the criminals were using several complex methods to launder money, which allowed them go unnoticed for years. The most common of these was the use of money mules. The gang divided large amounts of cash into multiple small transactions made by several money mules (a practice known as ‘smurfing’). The deposits made in this way were small enough to remain under regulatory reporting limits, thus avoiding detection.

The criminals also injected money into a network of companies they controlled, simulating business relationships to justify transfers of funds. At the same time, they had frontmen for registering ownership of assets in South America and used cars with hidden compartments to transfer cash, usually on the route Barcelona – Madrid – Lisbon.

More potential arrests

The criminal organisation had been active for more than eight years. Following a meticulous three-year investigation, Spanish and Portuguese authorities coordinated this joint operation in Andalucía, Aveiro, Catalunya, Lisbon and Madrid that led to the dismantling of the gang and the arrest of its leaders. 7 of the 20 arrested have already been imprisoned; 1 in Venezuela, another in Portugal and the rest in Spain. Some of the criminals linked to the gang were already imprisoned for other drug trafficking-related crimes.

The operation is ongoing and law enforcement authorities do not rule out more arrests in the future.

Senate KILLS Articles of Impeachment Against Open Borders Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Breaking 227 Years of Congressional History

The United States Senate was supposed to hold the impeachment trial of Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas beginning at 1 PM Eastern Wednesday. It actually proved to be a historically rapid dismissal by the Democrats.

As The Washington Post reported, the Senate at Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) urging voted to dismiss both articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, who has presided over the worst border crisis in America history.

Democrats voted along party lines on the first article of impeachment which charges Mayorkas with “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law,” finding the charge unconstitutional. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (RINO-Alaska) voted present.

Democrats then found the second article charging Mayorkas with “breach of public trust” to be unconstitutional. Murkowski voted with her GOP colleagues this time.

They then voted to end the impeachment “trial” completely, again on a party-line vote.

Federal Judge Clears Facebook's Zuckerberg Of Personal Liability In 25 'Social Media Addiction' Cases

A federal judge has ruled Meta Platforms, Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg will not face personal liability in 25 legal complaints alleging his social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, have harmed children.

Meta is facing dozens of separate legal complaints alleging the company failed to sufficiently warn adolescent users about the potentially addictive nature of their social media platforms. Those various complaints were consolidated into a multi-district litigation (MDL) currently being handled by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Twenty-five of the complaints sought to hold Mr. Zuckerberg personally liable for the harm allegedly caused by his social media platforms, but U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers issued a ruling on Monday granting his motion to dismiss the cases.

Plaintiffs in the cases had argued that Mr. Zuckerberg had a specific duty to disclose to users the potentially addictive nature of his platforms due to his public stature as the head of Meta and his public statements. The plaintiffs asserted Mr. Zuckerberg repeated partial representations of Meta’s safety practices through numerous public appearances. The plaintiffs argued Mr. Zuckerberg’s alleged failure to make more fulsome public claims about his company made him liable for fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation by omission.

But Judge Rogers said the plaintiffs could not rely on Mr. Zuckerberg’s comparative knowledge about Meta’s products to establish he personally owed such a duty to each plaintiff.

Such a ruling, she said, would create “a duty to disclose for any individual recognizable to the public.”

“The Court will not countenance such a novel approach here,” she wrote.

Judge Rogers ultimately dismissed plaintiffs’ claims of fraudulent misrepresentation by omission or nondisclosure under Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin state laws. She further dismissed plaintiffs’ claims of negligent misrepresentation by omission that was cited under the laws of Arizona, Connecticut, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Boeing Whistleblower Tells Lawmakers: "They Are Putting Out Defective Airplanes"

"I have serious concerns about the safety of the 787 and 777 aircraft, and I'm willing to take on professional risk to talk about them," Boeing whistleblower Sam Salehpour said in his opening statement on Capitol Hill today at the second Senate committee investigating the plane manufacturer's safety problems. He said when he raised concerns about the 787 Dreamliner, he was "ignored" by the company and "told not to create delays. I was told, frankly, to shut up."

Salehpour warned that the 787 Dreamliner fuselage was improperly put together and that the company "rushed to address the bottlenecks in production." The result, he warned, is "premature fatigue failure" on these planes. He noted, "They are putting out defective airplanes."

"If something happens to me, I am at peace because I feel like coming forward, I will be saving a lot of lives," he added.
