DNC changed rules for nomination for Covid and still have the same rules. They can vote by proxy and remote.

They can choose their nominee up until convention formality . After that, States have differing rules. There are ballot printing deadlines that have to be met. If a candidate is to be replaced post convention, there are State rules.

Post election has an entirely different set of rules. VP gets sworn in
