A Louisiana mayor has been charged with the rape of a minor, a week after unexpectedly resigning from office.

Former DeRidder, Louisiana Mayor Misty Roberts Clanton was arrested on Thursday for reportedly having sex with a minor. Louisiana State Police said that the 42-year-old is accused of having “sexual intercourse with one juvenile victim while employed as Mayor.”

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office requested that an investigation be conducted on Clanton on July 26 after a complaint was filed.

According to the police department’s Special Victim’s Unit, investigators spoke with two juveniles and informed them that at least one of them had sex with Clanton. ..
