The U.S. Department of Defense and Niger’s Department of National Defense announced on Monday that the withdrawal of American troops and assets from Air Base 201 in Agadez is complete.
Following a military coup in July of 2023, a pro-Russian military junta took over Niger, ousting the Western-backed president. The National Pulse reported that neighboring nations and the Biden-Harris government in the U.S. initially threatened to intervene and restore the country’s former leader. However, by April of this year, Russian forces had begun to move in, with Biden conceding to the junta and announcing a withdrawal of U.S. troops. /moar
