Kiev hopes that its plot will help justify long-range strikes using Western weapons deep inside Russia, the SVR believes. The US would then use the incident to ramp up pressure on Iran and North Korea for supposedly providing ballistic missiles to Russia, the agency said.

Australia’s chief antisemitism watchdog has laid bare the failures of universities to “understand” racism against the Jewish community in a damning assessment to a Senate Committee.

University campuses across Australia have “systemic, embedded antisemitism” which has existed even before October 7, a Senate Committee has heard.

Australia’s special envoy to combat antisemitism Jillian Segal fronted the Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee on Tuesday and called on it to recommend the government launch a judicial inquiry into antisemitism on university campuses across the country.

Ms Segal said antisemitism was a “special kind of racism” which required a focussed approach.

NSW police officer charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material in Sydney's south west

A young NSW police officer's future is in limbo after he was charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material.

A NSW police officer has been stood down indefinitely after being charged with allegedly possessing child abuse material.

An investigation by the Professional Standards Command kicked off in june 2024, following reports an officer was allegedly in possession of child abuse material.

On Tuesday morning, a 25-year-old constable who is attached to the South West Metropolitan Region, was arrested at Campbelltown Police Station.

"He was charged with possess/control child abuse material-use carriage service," NSW Police said in a statement.

Ghislaine Maxwell's sex trafficking conviction is upheld by Manhattan court

Ghislaine Maxwell's 2021 conviction for helping the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls has been upheld by a US appeals court.

The decision was issued by the Manhattan-based 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday.

Maxwell, 62, has been serving a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted on five charges for having recruited and groomed four underage girls for Epstein to abuse between 1994 and 2004.

She was described as 'dangerous' during her trial as jurors were told details of how she helped entice vulnerable teenagers to Epstein's various properties.

Judge Alison Nathan said at sentencing that Maxwell was 'central' to Epstein's heinous crimes, not a 'proxy.'

'Ms Maxwell worked with Epstein to select young victims who were vulnerable and played a pivotal role in facilitating sexual abuse,' the judge said.

The circumstances of Whitehead's death were reportedly not considered suspicious.

He had been on long service leave from the school for the past six months and was arrested and charged earlier this month.

At the time, police seized electronic devices from Whitebrook's Ellenbrook home which allegedly had child exploitation material on them.
