The United Nations and its member governments, with strong support from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), adopted a landmark agreement last week to bestow the U.N. with more power and influence in global affairs.
The controversial agreement, known as the Pact for the Future, outlines 56 actions for governments and international institutions to take over the coming years.
Among the key provisions is “transforming global governance” and further empowering international institutions across a range of issues, including “sustainable development and financing for development,” as well as “science, technology and innovation, and digital cooperation.”
The pact includes a Global Digital Compact to restrict “misinformation” and “disinformation” and a Declaration on Future Generations that encompasses the 2030 Agenda climate goals that include the phase-out of fossil fuels.

SWIFT announced on Oct. 3 that it will begin digital asset trials on its network in 2025. The trials will involve experiments with transactions that include multiple digital currencies and assets.
The trials aim to explore how the banking network can provide financial institutions with unified access to “multiple digital asset classes and currencies.”
“Initial use cases will focus on payments, foreign exchange, securities and trade to enable multi-ledger delivery-versus-payment and payment-versus-payment transactions,” the announcement said.

In the announcement, SWIFT highlighted the rapid growth of unconnected platforms and technologies in the digital asset economy that has led to an “increasingly fragmented landscape.”

The question of how the brain generates subjective perceptions, including images, feelings, and experiences, was coined by Australian cognitive scientist David Chalmers in 1995 as the “hard problem.”

A CBC News host has come under fire for allegedly editorializing during a broadcast of its talk-radio show Cross Country Checkup, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.
The taxpayer-funded media’s ombudsman Jack Nagler alleged that host Ian Hanomansing left the realm of balanced reporting while discussing the contentious issue of immigration on a segment of Cross Country Checkup last year, a radio show which allows listeners to call in.
Nagler said that instead of remaining nonpartisan on the issue, Hanomansing instead offered a “value judgment” after he said that people “want more immigrants to come to Canada.”
“It was simply too easy to interpret these remarks as a value judgment,” wrote Nagler. “I agree that CBC can do better.”
Hanomansing made the comments while interviewing Immigration Minister Marc Miller and the two were discussing the question “Is it fair to increase immigration when housing is scarce?”
Hanomansing also said that Canada’s recent record-high immigration targets were indispensable, which ultimately led to complaints from some listeners.

Toronto police arrested another individual connected to alleged assaults of police officers by anti-Israel activists protesting a Jewish charity fundraiser in September.
The event was a fundraiser for the Jewish charity group, the United Jewish Appeal. The UJA-hosted event, “Proudly Jewish: It’s Who We Are,” featured American journalist Bari Weiss, who protesters said shouldn’t have been allowed to speak due to her pro-Israel views.
According to a Toronto Police Services release Thursday, one of three outstanding suspects has been arrested in connection with the alleged assaults on police at the protest. Police identified the suspect as 25-year-old Ghadir Mokahal of Toronto and accused her of spitting on an officer.
Mokahal turned herself in to police on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. She was charged with assault of a peace officer. Her court case is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Ontario Court of Justice.

The Calgary Police Service uncovered an intricate underground tunnel believed to be used as a homeless encampment dug into a hillside near the Calgary Stampede grounds.
The human-made tunnel was being used as an encampment, but nobody was found in the structure or surrounding area upon discovery or the weeks that followed while the premises continued to be monitored.
The police confirmed that nobody is in custody, and no charges have been filed as a result of the incident.
YEGWAVE, a popular X account that posts Alberta news, posted to X various pictures of the encampment. The account said the encampment’s tunnel contained rooms, including a bedroom, a shelving unit, a homemade taser-like weapon, and “had almost hooked up electricity from a nearby streetlight.”
Calgary police previously discovered various weapons at numerous homeless encampments as the city contended with a spike in criminal activity.

A group of teens attacked a 13-year-old girl in Kelowna, British Columbia on Sept. 27, allegedly beating her until she was unconscious. The group reportedly lured her to a beach at night and swarmed her. The girl’s father says his daughter has been traumatized by the incident and is afraid to leave the house unaccompanied. Five of the teens were arrested but were released on "strict conditions.”
The 13-year-old girl was expecting to meet her friend at Boyce-Gyro Beach Park in the medium-sized resort city in BC’s interior, per the New York Post. When she arrived at 8:30 pm, it was apparent that something was wrong as there were about 30 teens present, and some began recording the event.
After the incident, there were five minors that were arrested for their actions who were identified as part of the "aggressors" in the attack. They were released after the arrest under "strict conditions," Sgt. Laura Pollock of the RCMP said on Wednesday. Personal information on the suspects is limited as they are minors.
After the 13-year-old was knocked to the ground, a bunch of the teens jumped on top of her and started pummeling the girl in the head and punching other parts of her body until they knocked her out, according to the outlet.
Although the girl had her smartphone with her and she thought of calling her mom for help, she wasn’t able to call again with more information because the gang took it, according to her father, identified only as Donovan. “I watched two minutes of my daughter getting near beat to death, like 20 or 30 kids who just decided that it was better for them to record it and laugh at her,” Donovan said.
The father has no idea why the gang swarmed his daughter, saying she had just begun her first year of high school and didn’t even know who most of her attackers even were. He says the kids were probably acting out what they view online. “This is, this is all probably based on what I can think of as social media,” he said.
“I don’t know what my daughter did to deserve this,” Donovan added. “I don’t know what anybody could do to deserve this. It’s terrible to watch. I hope people do watch it so they can believe it.”
She suffered a concussion and bruised ribs, but her father believes the psychological pain will take longer to heal than the physical injuries. An ambulance was eventually called to pick up the 13-year-old and take her to a hospital. "Physically, she’s got a lot of healing to do,” Donovan said. “Mentally, she started therapy, and I don’t know how long that’s ever going to take for her to trust or want to be outside again.”

Another Canadian church has gone up in flames. This time, the historic Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses Catholic church in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, was devastated by a fire on Thursday.
Municipal officials have not responded to True North’s requests for comment. However, local media noted that the fire chief “refused to speculate on the causes or origin of the blaze.”
No injuries have been reported, as the Church, which dates back to 1914, was empty at the time of the fire.
The Journal de Quebec stated that “several testimonies” collected on-site mentioned the presence of flames in a container near the church.
One of the church’s bell towers was destroyed during the fire, and “major damage” to the building’s structure has been reported.
According to the city of Trois-Rivières’s Facebook, emergency crews were on the scene of the “unfortunate fire” Thursday at around 3:40 p.m. The post said the flames were being tamed but urged residents to avoid the area.
Residential developer Georges Mouradian purchased and is constructing the church as a “revitalization project.” In an interview with La Presse on the scene, Mouradian said it was underway to be converted into 40 to 50 homes.
