'Complete Obliteration': DeSantis Says Hurricane Helene Damage Worse Than Idalia

Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis said Hurricane Helene’s “monumental storm surge” caused far greater damage than last year’s Idalia.

“Clearly you saw storm surge in excess of 15 feet,” DeSantis said to reporters in Taylor County’s Dekle Beach on the morning of Sept. 28.

“So that is much, much more significant than what we’ve seen in recent storms like Idalia that hit and certainly Debbie, and that is really, really destructive. So, as you look around here, you see some homes that are now just rubble.”

He said some of the damage he saw while flying over the affected coastline on Sept. 27 en route to Cedar Key was “complete obliteration.”

As recovery and emergency response efforts continue across the southeast United States in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, more than 50 storm-related deaths have been confirmed, and early estimates expect to see more than $15 billion in damages.

DeSantis confirmed that at least 11 of those storm-related fatalities occurred in the state. However, none of these fatalities occurred in Taylor County, where Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane.

The governor was joined by the executive director of Florida’s Department of Emergency Management, Kevin Guthrie, and FEMA Director Deanne Criswell. They expressed their shared desire to put everyone affected into a safe, dry living space, whether that is providing assistance through the state housing repair program, or provide full temporary housing in the form of trailer either through the state housing program or FEMA’s federal direct housing program.

Guthrie said that trailers were already on their way to Taylor County and portions of Levy County, but he emphasized that they were a temporary solution. Florida building code does not allow permanent travel trailer construction in these areas, especially on the beach in Taylor County.

“We want to help you get through that temporary [housing] onto what your permanent housing is going to be,” he said.

On Sept. 25, 2024, the European Council on Foreign Relations published a report titled Welcome to Barbieland: European Sentiment in the Year of Wars and Elections. In it, senior policy fellow and author Pawel Zerka discussed how Europeans could change Europe to benefit globalists.

Zerka noted that non-white and Muslim people have been misrepresented everywhere, specifically in politics, adding that, as a result of that, they felt “alienated.” The report’s author blamed the “far-right.”

“Far-right parties appeared to be on the rise in almost every member state, usually issuing promises to stop immigration or even planning (as the Alternative for Germany, or AfD, did) to expel large swathes of the population,” he wrote.

According to him, the European Union is “xenophobic” because it is too “white,” “Western” and “boomer,” adding that, to deal with it, people need to diversify the European population, reject the “‘ethnic’ conception of Europeanness” and “fill the ‘civic’ conception of Europeanness with substance.”

Israel Strikes Houthis in Yemen — Again

The Israel Defense Force (IDF) carried out airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen on Sunday, the second such attack since July, in response to several ballistic missiles fired by the rebels at Israel in recent days.

The IDF said in a statement:

Today (Sunday), during an extensive, intelligence-based aerial operation, dozens of IAF aircraft—including fighter jets, mid-air refueling aircraft, and intelligence aircraft struck military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in the Ras Isa and Hudaydah areas of Yemen. The targets included power plants and a seaport used to import oil, which were used by the Houthi terrorist regime to transfer Iranian weapons to the region, in addition to military supplies and oil.

The strikes were carried out in response to the recent attacks by the Houthis against the State of Israel.

Over the past year, the Houthis have been operating under the direction and funding of Iran, and in cooperation with Iraqi militias in order to attack the State of Israel, undermine regional stability, and disrupt global freedom of navigation.

The IDF is determined to continue operating at any distance – near or far – against all threats to the citizens of the State of Israel.

One of the Houthi missiles had landed near an Israeli town in Judea and Samaria (also known as the West Bank).

There were also unconfirmed reports that a helicopter carrying senior Houthi officials had crashed in Iran on Sunday.

Virginia School Bus Aide Allegedly Sexually Assaulted Disabled 4- And 5-Year Olds

A school bus aide in Spotsylvania, Virginia sexually assaulted multiple four- and five-year olds with disabilities on the school bus on Thursday, police said.

According to a jail booking from Rappahannock Regional Jail, Miguel Angel Velasquez Velasco was booked for eight counts of aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13 years, sodomy, and indecent liberties with a child by a custodian, and is being held without bond.

Spotsylvania Police Major Troy Skebo said in a Saturday statement that school authorities notified the police of suspicions that “inappropriate touching of a student” had occurred on a school bus.

“Detectives with the ‘Child Victim Unit’ and school administration immediately started an investigation and obtained substantial evidence that Mr. Velasquez Velasco assaulted three separate children on the school bus on the day of September 26th,” Skeoa said. “The victims ages range from 4 to 5 years of age who are students with disabilities.”

Skebo said Velasquez Velasco is an immigrant who is a legal permanent resident and has no known criminal record.

Superintendent Clint M. Mitchell has not informed the community of the incident. The Daily Wire sent Mitchell questions about the incident at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, but, as of this writing, he had not responded.

Spotsylvania Commonwealth’s Attorney Ryan Mehaffey told The Daily Wire that the “case is very important to our community and it has my undivided attention.” He said the charging documents could not be released because it is currently in juvenile court.

Spotsylvania is a semi-rural county about 60 miles south of Washington, D.C.
