Then my dad got this thing he called a "decoder" from the local TV repair shop, and I shit you not, hung it from the clock on the wall above the TV, with wires going down to the TV and then wires drilled through the wall to attach them to the whole trailer to use it as an antenna and we got HBO for free. Then they started scrambling their signal and that put an end to that. The 80s were when the channels went up to a dozen, then at least 20 by the end of the 80s, etc, etc.
