We have data that PROVES that redshift occurs over distance without any doppler effect. The matter in space gradually removes energy from the waves.

 

Look into the starquake event that caused the 2004 tsunami. Gravity waves arrive first, approx 9pm UTC 12/25/04, followed by gamma, then the X-rays which were detected on 12/27.

Nah. Cool to learn about though. The star that caused it was halfway across the galaxy. Very very far. If we'd been close like a few light years it would have fried averything, is my understanding.
