South Dakota's second-in-command had the party honor of casting the state's 29 Republican delegate votes for former President Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention.

And while he was at it, he floated the idea of Mount Trumpmore.

Lt. Gov. Larry Rhoden, in front of thousands attending the Milwaukee convention, cast the votes on behalf of the South Dakota delegation Monday afternoon.

"I'm proud to speak on behalf of myself and Gov. Noem and our delegation," Rhoden said, appearing to read a pre-written speech from his cell phone. "We represent the freest state in the nation built on the principles of freedom."

He briefly paused his remarks during his short speech. He appeared to intend to get ready to cast the delegation's votes, but he stopped himself to echo a years' old idea of putting the Republican nominee's face on the state's most recognizable landmark.

"I wanted to say one thing," Rhoden said. "President Trump helped bring fireworks back to our Mount Rushmore. That monument honors four of our greatest presidents, and I believe there's room for one more. Just saying. On behalf of South Dakota's 29 delegates, I proudly cast all our votes for President Donald J. Trump."

Secretary for Convention Vicki Drummond accepted the South Dakota delegation's votes, though she appeared to inaccurately say there were "28" votes cast.

Trump, who was already the presumptive nominee going into the RNC, was formally awarded the necessary number of delegates to secure the party's Republican presidential nomination shortly after 2:10 p.m. CDT.

The idea of putting Trump on Mount Rushmore goes back to 2018, when Trump met Noem at the Oval Office while she was running for the governorship.

Noem then recounted how Trump had said it was "[his] dream to have [his] face on Mount Rushmore."

The Associated Press later reported Noem had given the then-President a $1,100 bust depicting the president on Mount Rushmore when he visited South Dakota for an Independence Day fireworks celebration on July 3, 2020.

The Mount Rushmore miniature stood 4 feet and depicted Trump alongside former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.

Anthony Scaramucci got destroyed by Squawk Box’s Joe Kernen on CNBC:

“You will always be welcome at the table of legacy media and have people nodding as you trash Trump… but aren’t you the slightest bit embarrassed or at least humbled about how wrong you were…?”

==Investigation launched into Colorado voting systems security breach

colorado==

By Logan Smith

Updated on: November 11, 2024 / 7:34 PM MST / CBS Colorado

The 2nd Judicial District Attorney's Office in Denver is investigatingalleged violations of elections laws following the publication of voting machine passwords by the Colorado Secretary of State's Office during the run-up to the Nov. 5 general election.

A Nov. 8 press release from the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office in Colorado Springs stated that the Denver DA's Office requested its cooperation in the Denver office's investigation.

The list of passwords to voting machines across the state was accidentally published on a "subpage" of the Secretary of State's website, according to an office spokesman. The office learned of the leaked list on Oct. 24. The spreadsheet was publicly available for five months before the office was alerted of its exposure, prompting criticism from state Republicans.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold said her office contacted the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that same day.

A day later, the office determined voting systems in 34 of Colorado's 64 counties were impacted. The office did not explain the details of those impacts other than to say no settings had been changed on any of the impacted active voting equipment.

All the passwords were reset by the end of business on Oct. 31, after which, Griswold said "elections are secure."

Griswold's communications director, Jack Todd, told CBS News Colorado that an employee accidentally made the passwords public. That staff member "amicably left the department" before the leak was discovered.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis called for an outside investigation into the incident.

Monday, the Secretary of State's Office released a statement:

"The Department of State is supporting and working closely with the Denver District Attorney's investigation into the staff's posting of a file that included voting system component passwords. We welcome the additional transparency that this investigation will provide to the public. Please direct any further questions about the investigation by the Denver District Attorney to their office."

Walsh, who's endorsed by McCann, says the office needs to focus on addressing violent crime, fentanyl dealers, and catalytic converter thefts. Additionally, he wants to focus on expanding drug and mental health courts that send people to drug treatment programs rather than jail.
