South Dakota's second-in-command had the party honor of casting the state's 29 Republican delegate votes for former President Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention.
And while he was at it, he floated the idea of Mount Trumpmore.
Lt. Gov. Larry Rhoden, in front of thousands attending the Milwaukee convention, cast the votes on behalf of the South Dakota delegation Monday afternoon.
"I'm proud to speak on behalf of myself and Gov. Noem and our delegation," Rhoden said, appearing to read a pre-written speech from his cell phone. "We represent the freest state in the nation built on the principles of freedom."
He briefly paused his remarks during his short speech. He appeared to intend to get ready to cast the delegation's votes, but he stopped himself to echo a years' old idea of putting the Republican nominee's face on the state's most recognizable landmark.
"I wanted to say one thing," Rhoden said. "President Trump helped bring fireworks back to our Mount Rushmore. That monument honors four of our greatest presidents, and I believe there's room for one more. Just saying. On behalf of South Dakota's 29 delegates, I proudly cast all our votes for President Donald J. Trump."
Secretary for Convention Vicki Drummond accepted the South Dakota delegation's votes, though she appeared to inaccurately say there were "28" votes cast.
Trump, who was already the presumptive nominee going into the RNC, was formally awarded the necessary number of delegates to secure the party's Republican presidential nomination shortly after 2:10 p.m. CDT.
The idea of putting Trump on Mount Rushmore goes back to 2018, when Trump met Noem at the Oval Office while she was running for the governorship.
Noem then recounted how Trump had said it was "[his] dream to have [his] face on Mount Rushmore."
The Associated Press later reported Noem had given the then-President a $1,100 bust depicting the president on Mount Rushmore when he visited South Dakota for an Independence Day fireworks celebration on July 3, 2020.
The Mount Rushmore miniature stood 4 feet and depicted Trump alongside former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
