ho Are You Wrestling With?

 

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

 

One of the things that is so striking, as you spend time on Gab, is the amount of content created by “Christians” that try to focus peoples attention on certain human enemies. That enemy could be a certain political party or a certain race of people. They are out to convince you that you are in danger because of this potential human flesh and blood enemy. Yet the above scripture in Ephesians, makes it clear that our enemy does not have flesh and blood. The real enemy is a spiritual one. Satan and all his principalities and powers. Satan wants to divert Christian’s attention away from him though, so he tries to get you to focus on other people that he is using.

 

Let us put this in a scriptural context. If Gab would have existed, during the first century church. You would have seen post after post warning the church about Saul of Tarsus.

 

Acts 8:1-3 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. 3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.

 

But Saul (Paul) was not the real enemy. He was someone that was deceived. In fact he was a fulfillment of something Christ told them would happen.

 

John 16:1-3 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. 2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

 

Saul really did believe that he was serving the Lord. He was a very zealous Jew. The Jewish leadership trusted him and used him to do terrible things to those that loved Christ. But Saul was just flesh and blood. He wasn’t the real enemy. We know this because of the tremendous mercy and grace that the Lord pours out on him.

 

Acts 9:1-6 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

This flesh and blood enemy was deceived. He wasn’t the real enemy. Anyone that is familiar with the scriptures knows the incredible life that the Apostle Paul goes on to live in Christ. God used that man to change the world through his writings. To this day the words the Lord inspired through his writings are still being used to transform peoples lives.

 

I think Christ was very intentional in orchestrating his conversion the way He did. To help us to see those that Satan may be using, that are deceived, that may be doing terrible things, as someone that is in need of the gospel and repentance. Put anyone’s name you want of the commonly put forth enemies of the people. People that have done some truly bad things. Now put yourself in their shoes for a moment. You are the one that is deceived and doing these terrible things. What would you hope someone would do for you? Post about how terrible of a person you are, and the terrible things you have done. Or post about the need to pray for you, and have people that truly have the Love of Christ try to reach you with the truth. I know what my answer would be. I would hope someone would have the spiritual maturity to see past the deception and they would try to help me see the truth. I think anyone that was honest would say the same thing.

 

Satan is a wall builder. He wants to cause divisions. The Scriptures tell us that there will be people from every kindred, tongue, people and nation in His Heavenly Kingdom.

 

Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

 

Christ does not try to get people to focus on hating groups of people based upon skin color or nationality. In fact we are told that those that are in Christ:

 

Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

 

No once we are truly born again in Christ all those label fall by the way side. It is the work of the real enemy that will try to get you to take those labels up and focus on them. In fact Satan does not want Christ’s disciples to fulfill the great commission.

 

Matthew 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

 

You see if Satan can convince you that a certain group of people are the real enemy. You will focus your hate on them. If you see them as someone that is deceived, like Paul, and in need of the gospel. Your energies can be focused on reaching them with the truth. But that is what Satan is scared of more than anything. Christians truly learning to Love their enemies, and doing for them what they would hope would be done for them if the roles were reversed. May God give us the spiritual maturity to see people the way He does, and Satan for what he truly is. God bless your evening!
