Before he got his start in entertainment, he worked as a professional tennis player, as well as earning a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1973.[1] He is one of the heads of Castle Rock Entertainment.

Alan Zweibel (born May 20, 1950)[1] is an American writer, producer, director, comedian and actor whom The New York Times says has โ€œearned a place in the pantheon of American pop culture."[2] An original Saturday Night Live writer, Zweibel has won five Emmy Awards and two Writers Guild of America Awards for his work in television, which includes It's Garry Shandling's Show (co-creator and producer) and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Zweibel, who is Jewish, was born May 20, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York City,[4] to Julius and Shirley (Bram) Zweibel. He grew up in the New York City suburbs of Wantagh[5] and Woodmere on Long Island.[6] He graduated from George W. Hewlett High School in 1968 and the University at Buffalo in 1972.[7]

 

Upon graduation from college, Zweibel started writing for stand-up comedians who paid him seven dollars a joke.[2] He later compiled over 1,100 jokes into a portfolio which he showed to producer Lorne Michaels who then hired Zweibel to be one of the original writers of a new show called Saturday Night Live.[2]
