‘Should Be Disqualified’: Conservatives Come Out Against Trump’s DEA Pick Over What He Did During COVID

Dec. 1, 2024

Several conservatives expressed concerns Sunday over President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement of Republican Florida sheriff Chad Chronister to be administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Trump revealed Saturday in a statement that he will nominate Chronister to lead the DEA in his second administration, stating that the Florida sheriff will work with his attorney general pick, Pam Bondi, “to secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border.” While Chronister received praise from colleagues and others after the initial announcement, some Republicans have begun to fire back due to his actions during the COVID-19 lockdown.

In March 2020, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released a press statement revealing that they had arrested local Tampa Bay church pastor Dr. Rodney Howard-Browne on two second-degree misdemeanors for unlawful assembly and violation of public health emergency rules. In a post on X from the Libertarian Party of Mississippi, the group called out Chronister’s decision to arrest Howard-Browne, leading Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie to respond as well.

“I’m going to call ‘em like I see ‘em. Trump’s nominee for head of DEA should be disqualified for ordering the arrest a pastor who defied COVID lockdowns,” Massie wrote on X.

Conservative podcasters the Hodge Twins and journalist Mike Cernovich also called out Trump’s choice on X, highlighting Chronister’s COVID-19 stances at the time of the incident.

Media personality John Cardillo wrote on X that he had deleted his original post praising the Florida Sheriff after remembering that he is a “COVIDian Sheriff who arrested a pastor during services because ‘COVID’ to be prosecuted by Andrew Warren, the Soros funded prosecutor DeSantis removed from Office.”

While Chronister had taken to social media to publicly thank Trump for the nomination and stated that he is “deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve our nation,” podcaster Tim Pool instead called for him to serve prison time.

At the time of Howard-Browne’s arrest, Chronister stated that while faith is important and authorities “would never impede on someone’s ability to lean on their religious beliefs as a means of comfort,” those practicing their beliefs must do so “safely.”

“His reckless disregard for human life put hundreds of people in his congregation at risk and thousands of residents who may interact with them this week in danger,” Chronister said. “The River at Tampa Bay has an advantage over most places of worship, because they have access to technology that allows them to live stream their services over the internet and broadcast television for the more than 4,000 members to watch from the safety of their homes.”

In addition to the local pastor’s arrest, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office released 164 inmates in March 2020 to help slow the spread of COVID-19 at the county jail.

“We want to protect our employees here. We want to protect the remainder of the jail population. We also feel these low-level, non-violent offenders will be better served at home with their families,” Chronister said at the time.

However, only a day after their release, one of the inmates, 26-year-old Joseph Edwards Williams, was arrested again on charges of second-degree murder in connection to a homicide along with charges of felony firearm possession, heroin possession and resisting arrest.

“There is no question Joseph Williams took advantage of this health emergency to commit crimes while he was out of jail awaiting resolution of a low-level, non-violent offense,” Chronister said after the incident. “As a result, I call on the State Attorney to prosecute this defendant to the fullest extent of the law.”

Chronister and Trump’s campaign did not immediately return the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Goof for themThere's some creeps nominating corrupt people to Trump's admin. I hope Trump hears the uproar!

Megan Rapinoe Is Back In Our Lives Spewing A Bunch Of Nonsense, And Can She Just Go Away Already?

Andrew PowellDecember 01, 2024 2:38 PM ET

Here we go again with this one…

A disgraced former member of the United StatesWomen’s National Team (USWNT), Megan Rapinoe is back in our lives spewing utter nonsense, this time coming to the defense of soccer player Barbra Banda. If you don’t know who Banda is, the BBC recently named her “Women’s Footballer of the Year,”and this despite Banda failing a sex eligibility test.

After Banda failed to meet the requirements for sex eligibility, the 24-year-old decided to withdraw from the Zambian national squad that was set to play in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Female players that are eligible can’t “show any perceived deviation in secondary sex characteristics and are therefore presumed to be of female gender,” per the African Soccer Federation (CAF).

Sydney Mungala, the federation communications director, gave an explanation that stated that Zambia was informed of Banda potentially being ineligible because of her testosterone levels being heightened while the 2022 tournament was happening. Reportedly offered medicine to bring down those levels, Banda declined.

Now that we’re caught up, here’s where Megan Rapinoecomes into the picture, absolutely praising Banda for winning the BBC’s “Women’s Footballer of the Year.”

“You’ve thrilled, entertained and inspired us, and the world, all year long,” wrote Rapinoe on her Instagram story Friday, according to Goal.com. “This is so deserved as is every bit of your success. You stand so much taller than the tiny people trying to tear you down.”

And to think Banda is here in America creating chaos being a member of the NWSL’s Orlando Pride. She has the second-most goals in the league this season.

GOP Rep Points Out The Obvious When CNN Host Asks Whether Trump’s FBI Pick Will Go After ‘Political Enemies’(good for him)

Republican New York Rep. Mike Lawler called out how the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) have been weaponized politically on Sunday on CNN after guest host Kasie Hunt asked whether Kash Patel plans to go after “political enemies.”

President-elect Donald Trump announced his Patel on Saturday as his pick to lead the FBI, writing in a statement that the former Trump administration official plans to lead the agency into a new era. On “State of the Union,”Hunt pressed the Republican lawmaker on whether he had “reservations” about Patel allegedly planning on “going after” Trump’s political enemies, noting that Patel had a “list” of names in his book.

“Look, I don’t think the American people are interested in a revenge tour, but obviously if people did wrong in their official capacities, then that’s something they should be concerned about. But if they didn’t do anything wrong, if they upheld the law, then there shouldn’t be a problem,” Lawler said. “The objective here obviously is to reform the Department of Justice and the FBI and get it back to its mission of going after criminals.”

“Obviously in recent years we’ve seen the FBI and the Department of Justice weaponized in a way that has become completely political. That’s not good for the American people. It’s not good for our system of justice. The lack of confidence that Americans have in the Department of Justice and the FBI is terrible. So obviously we want a system that is reformed, that works for the American people, and that prosecutes criminals. And that should be the objective and the goal of every American. Obviously that’s what my hope is as the Department of Justice moves forward under Pam Bondi and the FBI under Kash Patel.”

Hunt continued to push back on Lawler, asking whether Patel would be the best to accomplish the goal of “partisan neutrality” under a second Trump administration. The guest host also highlighted how the new Trump nominee would be replacing FBI Director Christopher Wray, who was nominated by the former president during his first administration. WATCH:

“Right, and Christopher Wray’s FBI then went and investigated Donald Trump. These charges have since been dropped by the special prosecutor,” Lawler responded. “But again, Kasie, these issues have been litigated in this election that we just had. Donald Trump talked about this for two years, so I don’t know why anybody is surprised. The American people voted for Donald Trump overwhelmingly, despite him campaigning on these issues.”

“I’m not concerned about partisanship here. I think we’ve seen a DOJ and an FBI that have been weaponized. You look at the New York State Attorney General Letitia James. She literally campaigned on prosecuting Donald Trump. I didn’t see many in the media objecting to that. The fact is that our system of justice needs to be depoliticized,” Lawler said. “Unfortunately, under the Biden administration, we have seen it weaponized, and it’s wrong.”

Trump has long called for investigations into the FBI, accusing the agency of being led by corrupt officials who have coordinated against him. During the Republican presidential primaries in 2023, the former president, along with every GOP candidate except former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, stated they would plan to fire Wray.

Trump said in a March campaign video that his second administration would bring an end to the “weaponized” departments, with agencies being “completely overhauled” through the “firing all of the corrupt actors in our National Security and Intelligence apparatus.”
