BREAKING: Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) will not seek to remain as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee and is endorsing Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), his rival for the role, to succeed him.'
Raskin had been seen as the heavy favorite to take down Nadler as part of a multi-committee effort by House Democrats to jettison their oldest leaders.
One senior House Democrat told Axios of Nadler: "I think the numbers were clear to him."
Nadler's withdrawal was first reported by the New York Times.
In a letter to colleagues obtained by Axios, Nadler wrote that Raskin has "already proven himself to be an exceptional leader and spokesperson for our party's values."
