Biden Removes Communist Cuba’s Designation as State Sponsor of Terrorism in Deal Negotiated by Catholic Church
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/01/biden-removes-communist-cubas-designation-as-state-sponsor/
Joe Biden is trying to make things right with communist Cuba as he prepares to leave office.
The outgoing president agreed to remove the country’s following negotiations through the Catholic Church, despite the fact that Catholics are heavily persecuted by the communist regime.
“An assessment has been completed and we do not have information that supports Cuba’s designation as being a state sponsor of terrorism,” a senior administration official briefed reporters on Tuesday.
“The Catholic church is significantly advancing an agreement with Cuba to undertake a set of actions that will allow for the humanitarian release of a significant number of political prisoners in Cuba and those who have been detained unjustly,” they added.
Cuba has long been a hub for supporting and harboring terrorist organizations and fugitives, playing a destabilizing role in the region.
The regime continues to shelter leaders of Colombia’s Marxist guerrilla group, the National Liberation Army (ELN), which is responsible for bombings, kidnappings, and violence.
Havana also remains a safe haven for American fugitives, including convicted cop-killer Joanne Chesimard (Assata Shakur), shielding her from justice for decades.
It was first designated as a state sponsor of terrorism in the final days of the first Trump presidency, citing evidence it had “repeatedly providing support for acts of international terrorism in granting safe harbor to terrorists. Continue…

'WE HAVE A DEAL': Trump announces Israel, Hamas reach deal on ceasefire, hostage release
https://thepostmillennial.com/we-have-a-deal-trump-announces-israel-hamas-reach-deal-on-ceasefire-hostage-release
"We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East."
President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Israel and Palestinian terror group Hamas have reached a deal on a ceasefire and release of Hamas-held hostages. Trump has previously said that were the hostages not released by his Inauguration Day, January 20, "all hell will break loose."
"We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East," Trump announced on Truth Social in all caps. "They will be released shortly. Thank you!"
Hostages have been held by Hamas since they were taken from Israel during a pogrom carried out by those terrorists on October 7, 2023. The deal on the table includes the release of 33 hostages, 10 of whom are deceased. In exchange, Israel will be releasing Palestinian prisoners who are incarcerated in Israeli prisons.
A US official reportedly told The Jerusalem Post that the deal had been agreed to and an Israeli official later said that "differences in negotiations" had been hammered out. Continue…

Venezuela's Maduro Threatens to Invade Puerto Rico
Published Jan 14, 2025 11:49 PM by The Maritime Executive
Over the weekend, Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro threatened to "liberate" the island of Puerto Rico from the United States, an unexpected and unusual threat.
"Just as in the north they have a colonization agenda, we have a liberation agenda," said Maduro at an event in Caracas. "And our agenda was written by [Latin American independence leader] Simón Bolívar. The freedom of Puerto Rico is pending, and we will achieve it."
Last week, Maduro took the oath of office for his third term, following an election that was criticized by international observers for widespread irregularities; publicly available vote tallies suggest that he likely did not win the majority of the vote. The U.S. does not recognize him as Venezuela's legitimate leader and has long accused Maduro of human rights abuses, vote-rigging and cocaine smuggling. He was indicted on narco-terrorism charges in a U.S. federal court in 2020, and on Friday, the Biden administration increased the bounty for Maduro's capture to $25 million.
Puerto Rico is more than 400 nautical miles away from Venezuela's shores, and the ability of the Venezuelan armed forces to project power is limited by the size of its navy; Venezuela has four tank landing ships with which to mount an amphibious operation, all built in the 1980s. After years of U.S. sanctions, this fleet's operational status is unknown. While the threat of a Venezuelan invasion may be limited, Puerto Rico's governor has called on the incoming U.S. administration of President-elect Donald Trump to push back on Maduro's aggressive statements.
"A few days after holding an illegitimate swearing-in ceremony, the socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro publicly proposed an invasion of Puerto Rico," wrote Gov. Jenniffer González-Colón, noting that Puerto Ricans have voted to remain part of the U.S. "I trust your incoming administration will swiftly respond and make it clear to the Maduro regime that, under your leadership, the United States will protect American lives and sovereignty and will not bow down to the threats of petty, murderous dictators."
Multiple elected officials from the mainland U.S. have also voiced outrage at Maduro's threat.
"Maduro's a brutal dictator," said Rep. John Rutherford (R-FL). "Now, he has the audacity to threaten Puerto Rico and American national security. We must support Venezuelans fighting for freedom and hold Cuba, China, Russia and Iran accountable for propping up this murderous regime."

Chinese Officer Confirms "Drone Carrier" Role for World's Largest Amphib
Published Jan 15, 2025 5:03 PM by The Maritime Executive
A senior officer with China's PLA Navy has confirmed that its newest, largest amphib will be equipped to operate with drones, and said that the service is pivoting to take advantage of a new generation of unmanned combat systems.
Chi Jianjun, a captain and destroyer commander in the PLA Navy, told state news channel CCTV last weekend that drone systems are being rolled out across China's naval fleet. "It's not just us destroyers. Aircraft carriers, the newly-launched Type 076, the earlier Type 075, and other vessels are and will all be involved," he said in comments first translated by SCMP. "Uncrewed operations are an undeniable trend in modern warfare."
The Type 076 refers to the Shandong, the largest amphib China has delivered and a rare example of an amphibious assault vessel built with a catapult. The vessel's launch ceremony was held at CSSC Hudong Zhonghua last month, and it is expected to enter service soon.
Shandong's flight deck measures about 850 feet long by 170 feet wide, making it about an acre larger than the U.S. Navy's America-class amphib. It appears to have dual elevators, port and starboard, for handling a higher volume of aircraft traffic than the previous-generation Type 075. It also has a well deck at the stern for launch and recovery of landing craft.
The vessel was formally launched on December 27, and Chinese state media released detailed footage showing its arrangements. At the time of launch, the vessel was fitted with a work cover over top of its flight deck, widely believed to conceal a single electromagnetic catapult. Given its size - in between a big-deck amphib and a full-size carrier - and the launch capabilities of its catapult, Sichuan has long been identified as a likely aerial combat drone carrier by Western analysts. Satellite imaging has previously picked up what appear to be full-scale mockups of China's GJ-11 unmanned combat aircraft at a storage area near the CSSC Hudong Zhonghua yard on Shanghai's Changxing Island; a Pentagon analysis recently identified the GJ-11 as a potential candidate for PLA carrier operations, and mockups like those seen at Hudong Zhonghua are typically used during testing and crew familiarization for a newbuild carrier.
Chinese sources indicate that the Sichuan could enter service as early as the end of 2025.
