COLUMBUS - Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed Lt. Gov. Jon Husted to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the U.S. Senate on Friday.
Husted's appointment ends weeks of speculation about who will join Sen. Bernie Moreno, who took the oath of office earlier this month after defeating former Sen. Sherrod Brown in November. Husted will serve in the Senate through 2026 and must run that year if he wants to keep the seat.
“I believe and know that Jon is prepared to be United States senator from the state of Ohio,” DeWine said. “The U.S. Senate rewards hard workers. It rewards those who master the facts. It rewards those who focus on getting things done.”

The Federal Reserve Board on Friday announced it has withdrawn from the Network of Central Banks and Supervisors for Greening the Financial System (NGFS).
While the Board has appreciated the engagement with the NGFS and its members, the work of the NGFS has increasingly broadened in scope, covering a wider range of issues that are outside of the Board's statutory mandate.

Jan 17 (Reuters) - US Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Danny Werfel said he would resign with nearly three years left in his term, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.
"I had to recognize that the incoming team wanted to go in a new direction," Werfel said in an interview ahead of a Friday message to IRS employees announcing his exit, according to the Journal.
