Today in 1988 Spectrum Holobyte began distributing the computer game Tetris in the USA. Tetris was developed Russian computer engineer Alexey Leonidovich Pajitnov, whilst he was working at the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Instantly addictive, the universal appeal of the game is credited as helping break down the boundaries between the US and the Soviet Union.
