JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Today, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey finished his trial against China.

“Today, we hauled China into court to hold them accountable for unleashing COVID-19 on the world,” said Attorney General Bailey. “Missouri is the only state in the nation to file suit to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for causing and exacerbating COVID-19. Today was a great day: the judge was engaged in our arguments and asked detailed questions. We feel confident that we will collect on the $25 billion we’re demanding in damages. And if China refuses to pay up, we will seize Chinese assets instead.”

The Court today stated Attorney General Bailey presented “an abundance of uncontroverted evidence” that China harmed Missourians by unleashing COVID-19 on the world. The judge expressly shared he is inclined to rule in Missouri’s favor.

Missouri sued China in 2020 for causing and exacerbating the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically for thwarting the production, purchasing, and import and export of medical equipment, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), used in COVID-19 efforts. Attorney General Bailey is demanding remedies to the tune of $25 billion. To date, China has refused to appear in court, making a default judgment in Missouri’s favor likely.

The Court is expected to rule in the coming weeks.

As President Donald Trump, Republican majorities in the House and Senate, and DOGE chair Elon Musk seek to address a $36 trillion national debt, a $1.8 trillion annual deficit, and a smaller, more efficient, and less costly federal government, they would be well served to renew a policy that the "government will not start or carry on any commercial activity to provide a service or product for its own use if such product or service can be procured from private enterprise through ordinary business channels," first promulgated 70 years ago by the Bureau of the Budget in the Eisenhower administration.

The Bureau of the Budget has since been replaced by the Office of Management Budget, its bulletins are now circulars, and 55-4 is now A-76. OMB Circular A-76, while still on the books today, is not enforced in the federal government.

Congress has effectively halted efficient utilization of private sector contractors for services that are commercial in nature through an appropriations bill rider moratorium. As a result, 1.1 million federal employees — more than half of the non-uniformed military and postal service federal workforce — are in positions deemed commercial in nature.

In performance of these activities, federal agencies duplicate private-sector businesses, engage in unfair government competition with private enterprise, including small business, and operate monopolies that have never been market tested.

Applying the Jan. 15, 1955, policy could save over $30 billion each year, increase efficiency, stimulate innovation, and rebalance the federal workforce into performance of inherently governmental functions.

The 1955 policy was supported by each president, Republican and Democrat, from Dwight D. Eisenhower through George W. Bush, until a 2009 government employee union inspired appropriations rider enacted while Democrat controlled the House, Senate, and White House under President Barack Obama prevented implementation of this good government tool.

The policy enables the federal government to employ the "yellow pages test," a simple and effective process that says if you can find firms in the yellow pages of the phone book providing products or services that the government is also providing, then the government service should be subject to market competition to break up the government monopoly and provide a better value to the taxpayer.

That is a test that has also been successfully applied by mayors and governors, Democrat and Republican, across the nation.

Federal agencies, as well as state and local government using federal funds, are engaged in activities ranging from architecture to zoology and include scores of other activities including audits, bus transportation, building codes, construction, debt and bill collections, campgrounds and concessions, engineering, equipment repair and maintenance depots, film studios and theater management, food service and security, graphics, healthcare services, hearing aids, information technology and data centers, insights and market research, insurance, laboratories and laboratory accreditation, landscaping, laundry and dry cleaning, office products, pest management and wildlife control, manufacturing, meeting planning, motor coaches, printing and chart production, public storage, recycling and waste management, road signage, roofing, security technologies and products, simulation technology and services, surveying, mapping and geospatial, tax preparation, transportation, travel planning, and utilities, and other tasks that have little to do with governing.

The government is the nation's largest banker, insurer, homeowner, landlord, utility provider, and bus, transit, and passenger train operator.

The 1955 budget bulletin was implemented when legislation mandating an end to government agency duplication and competition of private enterprise passed the House of Representatives and was headed for approval in the Senate when the White House argued that government or private sector performance decisions should be executive branch management determinations rather than a legislative mandate.

The past 70 years have demonstrated such an approach fell short. It is time to make the policy permanent.

Vaccinated children have a 170% higher chance of being diagnosed with autism compared to unvaccinated children, according to a new peer-reviewed study.

The study also found that vaccinated children had a 212% greater likelihood of developing a range of other neurodevelopmental disorders, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), epilepsy/seizures, brain inflammation and tic and learning disorders.

According to the study, the childhood vaccination schedule is likely a significant contributor to the higher rate of autism and neurodevelopmental conditions in vaccinated children.

The study of 47,155 9-year-old children enrolled in the Florida Medicaid program since birth was published on Jan. 23 in Science, Public Health Policy and the Law.

Karl Jablonowski, Ph.D., senior research scientist for Children’s Health Defense, said the paper “is unignorable simply by the soundness of its methods.”

“The sheer hazards associated with severe childhood diseases is jaw-dropping,” Jablonowski said.

The paper’s authors — Anthony R. Mawson and Binu Jacob of the Mississippi-based Chalfont Research Institute — hypothesized that:

Childhood vaccination is associated with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Increasing numbers of vaccinations lead to a higher risk of autism.

Vaccinated preterm babies are at greater risk of neurodevelopmental disorders than unvaccinated babies.

The study’s findings confirmed the authors’ hypotheses. Experts said the results of the study cast doubt on government claims that vaccines are not linked to autism.

“The vaccine propaganda campaigns operated by our regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and legacy media continue to claim that the link between vaccines and autism has been ‘debunked,’” said epidemiologist Nicolas Hulscher. He said the findings of this study “completely dismantle” this narrative.

Jablonowski noted that the study was based solely on government data. He said:

“The government has had this data for decades, professing safety while simultaneously refusing to study safety. The facade of U.S. government public health is crumbling, revealing a culprit in chronic disease in this country: willful ignorance.”

The authors of the study noted that government-sponsored studies have not compared health outcomes in vaccinated versus completely unvaccinated children. Mawson and Jacob told The Defender they hope the government will initiate such studies.

Retired Rotherham Police Officer Arrested Again Over Alleged Child Sex Abuse Investigation

Investigation into police officers accused of sex assaults in Britain’s notorious child rape gang hotspot Rotherham sees suspect re-arrested on further alleged offences, the policing watchdog reveals.

A retired police officer who was arrested at the end of last year over “complaints of child sexual abuse” while he was an officer in Rotherham in the 1990s as been arrested again, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) says. The unnamed man is said to be in his 60s and the new allegations relate to a new complainant who states she was attacked by the officer between 1997 and 2002.

That officer was previously arrested in October, then on suspicion of “misconduct in public office, attempted rape and three counts of indecent assault” allegedly against two girls between 1995 and 1999.

A second police officer, also unnamed, had been arrested in December. He is described as being in his 50s and was arrested on suspicion “suspicion of sexual assault and misconduct in public office and one count of indecent assault in connection to incidents that reportedly occurred around 1995-1996.”

The IOPC describes the complainants against the officers as “four survivors of child sexual exploitation and abuse in Rotherham” and that the alleged attacks took place while the Rotherham-based police officers “were both on and off duty”.

A spokesman for the IOPC said the allegations are: “very serious complaints and we will ensure they are thoroughly and robustly investigated”

The arrests follow the IOPC’s Operation Linden, one of its largest investigations ever, which investigated the actions of South Yorkshire Police around the mass rape of children in Rotherham. The IOPC was moved earlier this month to deny it had attempted to bury its findings, or that it had been told not to investigate senior officers, characterising these whistle blower claims as “completely inaccurate”.

An estimated 1,400 young girls were sexually abused by predominantly Pakistani gang members in the town, the Jay and Casey reports found.

Sony Group Corporation and Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the company behind PlayStation, today announced the appointment of Hideaki Nishino to the role of President and CEO effective April 1, 2025.

This marks an evolution designed to maximize synergies across SIE that was announced in May 2024 in which Nishino was appointed CEO of the Platform Business Group effective June 1, 2024, alongside Hermen Hulst, who was appointed CEO of the Studio Business Group.

Hulst will continue to serve as CEO, Studio Business Group, SIE, reporting to Nishino.

Israel Says It Will Occupy Southern Syria ‘Indefinitely’

Defense Minister Israel Katz made the comments while visiting the Syrian side of Mount Hermon

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Tuesday that Israel will “indefinitely” occupy areas of southern Syria it captured after the the regime change in Damascus that ousted former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Katz made the comments while visiting Israeli troops on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, which is located on the Syria-Lebanon border. “The IDF will remain at the summit of the Hermon and the security zone indefinitely to ensure the security of the communities of the Golan Heights and the north and all the residents of Israel,” he said.

Israel has occupied the Golan Heights since 1967 and annexed the Syrian territory in 1981, a move not recognized by any country until the first Trump administration did so in 2019.

Israel began its latest land grab in Syria by capturing a buffer zone between the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and the rest of Syria that was patrolled by UN peacekeepers. The invading Israeli forces have also captured several towns and villages in Syria’s Quneitra Governorate.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu celebrated and took credit for the overthrow of Assad since he was an ally of Iran and Hezbollah. But Israel has also used the takeover of Syria by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an offshoot of al-Qaeda, to invade and capture the land in the south. Israel also launched massive airstrikes in Syria to destroy military equipment.

“We will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves in the security zone in southern Syria… we will act against any threat,” Katz said atop Mount Hermon. “We will not be dependent on others for our security.”

Arizona Bill Would Create Gold and Silver-Backed Transactional Currency

January 29, 2025

A well-meaning bill filed in the Arizona Senate seeks to establish a state-sanctioned transactional currency backed 100 percent by gold and silver, along with a state-operated bullion depository.

Interestingly, the state would also issue physical gold and silver coins, even as such actions by a state are explicitly barred by the U.S. Constitution.

The legislation seeks to create government infrastructure to facilitate the everyday use of sound money, while also offering a government-run alternative to private-sector storage for precious metals.

Sen. Jake Hoffman and Sen. Rachel Jones filed Senate Bill 1096. The legislation would establish the Arizona Bullion Depository to serve as storage for precious metals and facilitate the issuance of state-minted gold and silver coins, along with a specie-backed transactional currency.

The depository provisions are based on a similar law that was passed in Texas and signed into law by Gov. Abbott in 2015.

The government-run bullion depository would serve as the “custodian, guardian and administrator of certain bullion and specie that may be transferred to or otherwise acquired by this state or an agency, a political subdivision or another instrumentality of this state.”

The proposed law specifies that the state treasurer “may deposit a portion of state monies in the depository in the form of bullion, and that bullion deposit is considered part of this state’s financial reserves.”

While many private options are already available, individuals and businesses could alternatively choose to deposit their bullion into the government’s own depository.

Gold and Silver Transactional Currency

Under SB1096 the Director of the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions would be required to issue specie (gold and silver coins) and establish a transactional currency “as the director determines to be practicable.”

Article 1 Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution, however, states that “No State shall… coin Money,” an activity that is delegated to Congress and reserved to the people themselves.

Specie is defined as “a precious metal that is limited to gold and silver and that is stamped into coins of uniform shape, size, design, content and purity that are suitable for or customarily used as currency, as a medium of exchange or as the medium for purchase, sale, storage, transfer or delivery of precious metals in retail or wholesale transactions.”

A transactional currency is defined as “a representation of actual precious metals, specie, and bullion held in a depository account by a depository account holder that may be transferred by electronic instruction and that reflects the exact unit of physical precious metals, specie or bullion in the pooled depository account in its fractional troy ounce measurement.”

The government depository would manage the transfer of the digital transactional currency between parties and ensure it is backed 100 percent by physical gold or silver held there.

Despite its drafting problems, this legislation is representative of an exciting increase in support for sound money reforms.

Ownership of gold and silver gives people a way to shield themselves from the rapid loss of purchasing power inherent in the fiat dollar, and state policymakers across the nation are increasingly backing sound money proposals to address these problems.

Private gold transactional currencies already exist. For instance, any citizen may spend their gold and silver coins, bars, and rounds, so long as the other party is willing to accept them as payment.

Also, some services enable folks to do business using a debit card that seamlessly converts gold and silver to fiat currency in the background.

The existence of private options for facilitating gold and silver transactions is a fact that has not escaped legislators in other states – and this reality has so far created significant headwinds for passing complex bills of this nature.

Background

The United States Constitution states in Article I, Section 10, “No State shall…make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts.”

Currently, all debts and taxes in most states are either paid with Federal Reserve Notes (dollars) which were authorized as legal tender by Congress, or with coins issued by the U.S. Treasury – very few of which have gold or silver in them.

The Federal Reserve destroys this constitutional monetary system by creating a monopoly based on its fiat paper currency. Without the backing of gold or silver, the central bank can easily create money out of thin air.

This not only devalues your purchasing power over time; it also allows the federal government to borrow and spend far beyond what would be possible in a sound money system.

Without the Fed, the U.S. government wouldn’t be able to maintain all of its unconstitutional wars and programs. The Federal Reserve is the engine that drives the most powerful government in the history of the world.

State laws that facilitate and encourage the use of sound money create a playing field where people can push back against the Fed’s monetary malfeasance.

Ultimately, it could create a scenario where people can drive out the “bad” fiat money with “good” sound money.
