Ukraine wants EU to replace lost US aid

Brussels should pick up the shortfall while Washington reviews its programs, lawmakers have suggested

Ukrainian lawmakers have appealed to non-US donors to fund local media outlets and NGOs following the suspension of Washington’s foreign assistance programsthat has reportedly drastically impacted the sector. Last week, President Donald Trump halted cash flows from the US and ordered a 90-day review of aid schemes. Many affected programs were run by USAID, Washington’s soft power agency that distributes billions of dollars each year for projects that promote US interests around the world, under the premise of humanitarian development. It spent over $60 billion in 2023 alone.

Ukrainian recipients of American grants were hit “worse than it may seem,” a statement by the parliamentary committee on humanitarian affairs said on Wednesday. Lawmakers anticipate that it will take up to six months for US funding to fully resume, and have urged EU donors to step in. (No it will not resume)

“Given the constraints on public funding, grants remain virtually the only way for cultural and media projects to function,” the statement said.

Oksana Romanyuk, executive director of aKiev-based media research non-profit, warned that 90% of news outlets in Ukraine rely heavily on foreign grants. With USAID operations frozen, many of them are now soliciting emergency donations.

The Ukrainian MPs described foreign assistance as “an important part of our path to democratic development and sustainability”. They empathized that USAID was funding projects for children, with thousands of minors attending schools that depend on American taxpayer dollars.(bullshit they are still child and human trafficking. According to media reports,senior officials in the Department of State have lobbied Secretary Marco Rubio to make exemptions for their preferred aid programs, arguing that they are essential for US interests. Meanwhile, at least 60 senior USAID officials reportedly have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Christian leader blasts multiculturalism

The traditional spiritual values of the Russian people are being “crossed out,” Patriarch Kirill has said

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church,Patriarch Kirill, has warned about attempts to use multiculturalism to turn the country into a “nationless and faithless” society.

The traditional spiritual values of the Russian people are sometimes being “not just trampled upon, but literally crossed out,” Kirill said during a speech in Moscow on Tuesday, as cited by the official website of the church.

It happens despite the fact that Russian PresidentVladimir Putin in 2022 signed a decree clearly stating that “Orthodoxy plays a special role in the formation and strengthening of traditional values,” he reminded churchgoers.

“Crosses on pictures with churches and even in state symbols are being shamefully rubbed out. Although, one should not be ashamed of the cross, but of one’s own rootlessness and forgetfulness,” the patriarch stressed.

He sounded the alarm over the alleged persecution of Christian humanities faculty lecturers at the country’s universities, saying “it turns out that even in the teaching of Russia’s history there can be ‘too much religion.’”

“They are repeating the idea that Russia is a ‘multinational and multi-confessional’ country like a mantra.Nobody would have argued with this if in practice this formula did not turn into an attempt to reformat our Fatherland into a nationless and faithless society,” Kirill stressed.

Russia is home to 195 peoples, who speak between 277 and 295 dialects, according to the country’s Ministry of Science.

A study carried out by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTSIOM) last year suggested that the vastmajority of Russians considered themselves Orthodox Christians (66%), followed by Muslims (6%), Buddhists (1%), Protestants (1%), Jews and Catholics (both less than 1%). Another 13% said that they were non-believers.

Moscow updates estimate of Ukrainian military losses

Kiev is unable to mobilize enough troops to replace those killed and wounded, the Russian Defense Ministry has said

Ukraine has been losing around 50,000 servicemen every monthduring the past half a year in the conflict with Russia, according to estimates by the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

In January, 51,960 Kiev troops were killed or severely wounded. The figure stood at 48,470 in December and 60,805 in November last year, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The number of recruits in the Ukrainian military’s training centers has barely reached 30,000 per month since last summer, despite extensive mobilization efforts, the statement read.

The ministry also noted that, according to official Ukrainian figures, some 100,000 of the country’s troops have voluntarily abandoned their units since the escalation between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022.

“The changes to the legislation prepared by the Kiev regime under pressure from Western countries to reduce the mobilization age from 25 to 18 years are the only way for [Ukrainian leader Vladimir] Zelensky to delay the cascading collapse of the front line in Donbass for a few more months,” the statement read.

Last week, Nikolay Schur, an adviser to the Ukrainian president’s office, said the government in Kiev will propose amendments in the coming days that offer incentives for males between the ages of 18 and 25 to sign voluntary contracts with the armed forces.

Men in that age group are currently not subject to mandatory mobilization under Ukrainian law. Zelensky has so far insisted that the situation will not change, despite the previous US administration of President Joe Biden reportedly pressuring Kiev to reduce the draft age to 18.

Last spring, faced with manpower shortages, mounting losses, and military setbacks, Ukraine lowered the draft age from 27 to 25 and significantly tightened mobilization rules. Since then, numerous videos have appeared on social media showing Ukrainian conscription officers chasing potential recruits in the streets, brawling with them, and subjecting them to abuse. Reports of the mobilization growing increasingly violent and lawless have appeared not only in the local media, but also in the West.

Actually I don't doubt it because Ukraine oligarchs will not let their children fight, so they have rounded up the peasants to fight the war and have recruited foreign fighters.

If the pictures of their destroyed towns and cities are real, then the numbers could be real.

But at this point, I do question everything except the oligarchs are getting richer and freaking out since USAID is cut off.

Ukraine had 40 million (i think) citizens, about a quarter to a a half left the country, so really who to hell know if most of it are true.

But I dislike Ukrainian leaders and elite more than cockroaches,I wouldn't be surprised when Bidan and Zelensky vowed they will fight to the last Ukrainians they were serious, except for the elite.
