I don't know what Trump is planning with Gaza, but anything is better than what we've done a dozen times before which is to rebuild Gaza after a war, pay for security, give them aid, promise to not let Hamas use the money for weapons, and then watch the next war.

This is John Sopko. He was the Special Inspector General in charge of reviewing the money spent in Afghanistan on "reconstruction."

 

In 2021, before the botched withdrawal, Sopko testified that the total amount spent on rebuilding Afghanistan was approximately $143 billion. Of that, he testified that at least one third of it was stolen or wasted with nothing delivered. And many of the projects that were actually completed were destroyed when the Taliban took over a couple weeks after we left.

In 2013 John Sopko, the Special Inspector General charged with reviewing the money spent on the Afghan reconstruction, sent letters to the State Department, USAID, and DoD requesting some very basic info.

 

He asked each one to list their ten most successful projects and their ten least successful projects.

 

Even though they received separate requests, the State Department and USAID made a joint response in one letter. "We do not compare individual projects against others."
