>That dog ain't givin' up that bone.
Probably meant with good intentions, but not the best analogy to use when a rape survivor speaks publicly for the first time about an extremely traumatizing and shaming experience - opening herself up to all the now-predictable incoming slings and arrows to attempt to discredit her (all secrets from her past - known, unknown, made-up and true), likely past and public threats to her well-being, political future, safety/embarrassment of loved ones' foibles, and blackmail (e.g., of the video of her likely naked, being raped, and perhaps others), etc.
As she said, a video of her rape, when she was drugged, may already be on the dark web.
That unknown (Who has seen it? Someone in front of you now? A relative? When will it surfaces? How much of your life's works and ambitions will be destroyed in the process?) can be a heavy drain on your mental health resources … for years. In addition to the known - which is heavy enough.
No. It is not a "bone" she is gnawing on and "won't give up."
It's the extremely painful truth.
And she is standing up and speaking, bracing for the no-doubt threatened incoming bombs - so that other silent survivors - at the hands of those she accuses and/or others - can draw strength from her courage and stand up, too. (She discloses much about others who were exploited - photograhic and video evidence she has seen.)
Silent and strong is one thing (perfectly understandable from a survivor's perspective, no shame sent from this Anon for those still sheltering, yet an environment where abusers are empowered, expand,, and thrive).
Vocal and strong is next-level brave.
No, so not a "bone to be gnawed."
Nancy Mace's public testimonial is a sword held high in the air, knowing she may get slaughtered in the process. But wiling to pay the price - to prevent other women (and perhaps boys, girls, and men) from being sexually assaulted and sexually exploited - without consent, like she was - from this group of accused abusers and perhaps from other groups, depending on who else comes forward, aided by the momentum of the draft her energy, courage, and example has drawn for them.
