Second US judge who ruled against Trump, faces Republican impeachment bidBy Nate Raymond Feb 24
A second federal judge is facing a long-shot bid by a Republican lawmaker to have him impeached as conservative members of the U.S. House of Representatives ramp up public criticism of judges who rule against U.S. President Donald Trump's agenda (it’s called Lawfare with no basis in fact, just to drag out, punish or cost money).
Republican U.S. Representative Andy Ogles of Utah on Monday said hefiled a resolution seeking to have U.S. District Judge John Bates in Washington, D.C., removed from office after he ordered the Trump administrationto restore government health websitesthat were taken offline in response to an executive orderrequiring the removal of "gender ideology extremism."
Ogles' impeachment measure argued that Bates failed to consider that thewebpages at issue maintained information about gender-affirming careand that the "continued socialization of this grave moral evil necessitates immediate action against those who would promote it." Bates did not respond to a request for comment. The U.S. Constitution provides that the grounds for impeachment are treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
To remove a judge from office, the House must pass articles of impeachment by a simple majority vote and then the Senate must vote by at least a two-thirds majority to convict the judge. Republicans control both chambers of Congress but do not have a two-thirds majority in the Senate. (I read that they can just be fired, and the Judge could take it to court for years)
But despite facing an unlikely path to success, a small group of House Republicans have in recent days have been ramping up calls to impeach judges who rule against Trump, formally moving to do so already with one other jurist, U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer in Manhattan. The impeachment resolutions were filed against Engelmayer after he temporarily blocked the Department of Government Efficiency, the government cost-cutting team spearheaded by billionaire Elon Musk, from accessing U.S. Treasury Department systems responsible for trillions of dollars in payments.
Musk on Monday threw his support behind impeaching Bates, writing on X: "Time to impeach judges who violate the law."
The attacks against judges for their rulings and calls for impeachment have been sharply criticized bybar groups and law professors(almost all liberals and left leaning esp in DC), includingJohn Collinsof George Washington University, who said that theeffort "smacks of intimidation." (Oh you mean like the intimidation that every Judge in the 4-5 Fake prosecutions did to Trump, his family, staff and others? Like that?)
"It's completely inappropriate," Collins said in an email. (Wait, Judges can’t be criticized or judged by the Congress or the People? Are they above the law?)
The ruling Bates issued came in a lawsuit by theliberal-leaning medical advocacy group Doctors for America, which said the sudden removal of websites by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Food and Drug Administrationhampered doctors' and researchers' ability to fight disease. (What disease is related to trans surgeries they are trying to research? Are they talking about psychological illness and perversion of the minds of young people? That sounds totally made up. How did that judge rule in their favor, did he ask any questions? That sounds like absolute BS)
The webpages had been removed pursuant to an executive order Trump signed on his first day back in office on January 20 that directed the federal government to only recognize two, biologically distinct sexes, male and female.
The February 11 ruling requiring the pages to be restored incensed Trump's allies, including Musk, who described Bates as "corrupt" and "evil" and called for his removal. Ogles' resolutionalleged Bates, an appointee of Republican former President George W. Bush, "has engaged inconduct so utterly lacking in intellectual honesty and basic integritythathe is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors." (misdemeanors could work, but the judge certainly has a conflicted mind, maybe he has a mental disorder, like liberalism, or fetishes on trans surgeries; Or maybe he just hates Trump, being a Bush appointee, which is political bias, and he can’t rule on the case.)
Almost, all DC judges hate Trump or the ones that don't are threatened to go along with the corrupt ones. Including almost every Trump appointee in DC has ruled against him or his supporters. (Sorry I love commenting on Nutty professionals)
