Concealed Carry Policy

It is the policy of this department to provide support to the Moraine Valley Communities located at the Palos Hills, Blue Island and Tinley Park Education Centers in relation to Board Policy #6539- Concealed Carry and IL. Public Act 98-0063

As provided by statute, persons who have been issued a Concealed Carry permit by the State of Illinois will be required to follow those provisions provided by Board Policy #6539 restricting person’s access to firearms on all Moraine Valley Community College campuses.

Moraine Valley Community College has been designated as a “Protected Area” by statute and prohibits the carrying of any concealed firearms on any owned or leased facility operated or control by Moraine Valley Community College, by persons designated as “Non-Law Enforcement”.

Board Policy #6539 also restricts the carrying of Firearms in any Campus owned or leased vehicles by persons designated as Non-Law Enforcement. As provided by statute all weapons must be stored within the owners vehicles or lockers provided within the lobby of the Moraine Valley Police department on the Palos Hills campus. Those possessing weapons at the Tinley Park campus must store them within their locked vehicles or surrender them to the “on duty” Moraine Valley police officer for safe storage. Attendees at the Blue Island Center may store their weapons within their personal vehicle in those public parking areas near the campus, but may never enter the building while armed.

Persons who violate these procedures are subject to arrest and expulsion / termination from the Moraine Valley Community College.

Whitewashing the greenwashing

Rob Mortimer, managing director of fuel specialist Fuelre4m, takes a challenging look at the outcomes from last week’s IMO Intersessional Working Group on the Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships

My biggest takeaways from the recent convening of 107 parties, representing 97% of the world’s shipping tonnage are:

We’re committed to cutting pollution, if we don’t have to count the bits we don’t want to admit to.

Creating more pollution, and more damaging pollution, from burning something different is OK if it helps drive business through new engine sales, new ‘clean fuel’ manufacturing, storage and distribution facilities, and if we completely cancel out the increased pollution generated.

Net-Zero by 2050 means the air is open as the new real estate for business, governments and the stock markets.

Putting a value on carbon and GHG trading is fuelling a rise in polluters to fuel pollution capture and trading because you can’t count what you haven’t produced and captured.

The ‘future fuels’ vs ‘traditional fuels’ playing field is being perfectly skewed by the ‘Green Energy’ proponents, with massive influence over the IMO as to what to count and what to ignore when it comes to ‘well to wake’ comparisons.

Those with the most influence over policy were not those looking to cut pollution. Let’s have transparency on agendas.

Let’s set the bar a little higher. Let’s talk about using technology that is available today to measure the Total Pollution Receipt (TPS) of a fuel, including blockchain ‘chain of custody’ from ingredients, through production and distribution, all the way to what we at Fuelre4m like to call PPP – Piston Pushing Power. And let’s consider the Fuel’s Energy Conversion Rate (FCR). How much of the megajoules of energy is converting to pushing power.

The shipping industry needs to stop burying its head in the sand and gets to grip with the efficiencies of fuel, not just focusing on the mantra that fossil fuels are bad, especially when they don’t know how much of the fuel is converting to thrust, and then repeating the same mistakes by not knowing the energy conversion or the supply chain pollution of other fuels either.

To me, cutting GHG and fossil fuel emissions isn’t a game of strategy, manipulating numbers to support the fuel technology of 2050 while ignoring the extra pollution created on the long and dirty journey to get there. It’s about genuinely optimising the combustion and consumption of every fuel now.

This IMO session has seen those with business interests in biofuels seeking to cover up the facts that, although CO2 production is ‘lower’ in biofuel blends, the energy density is also lower and, due to a poor combustion rate, a measure of FCR has shown that, as well as introducing fuel stability issues, a B20 blend requires 7%-8% more of the B20 fuel to produce the same PPP as LSFO. So the 84% credit on the B20 is cancelled by the 6-7% increase in LSFO consumption AND due to the higher temperature needed for primary combustion of biofuels, NOx goes mad. But nobody is measuring – yet. Wait until the biofuel suppliers have built the distribution and supply market. Then, once everyone is onboard, let’s tax the NOx that nobody told you about. Even better, let’s catch it and trade it!

Being pragmatic, I applaud that the IMO is driving forward, negotiating with all parties to try to find clear seas to drive towards the goal. Let’s not lose sight of the reality, though – fossil fuel consumption in the shipping industry increased last year. It will rise again for the next 25 years, with the mix of fuels changing but the pollution increasing, and in 2050 we’re going to look back and realise that the Net-Zero Framework became a game of ‘where to hide the skeletons’.

Cutting consumption and optimising the combustion of all fuels, old or new, is the only way to cut pollution. Burning something else at a different point in the fuel’s lifecycle, or at a less efficient FCR, is just whitewashing the greenwashing. Let’s not catch and trade pollution. Let’s cut the production of emissions at source, and reward that.

The University of Virginia Health Hospital will end its service providing transgender treatments to new patients as young as 11, falling in line with President Donald Trump's order after being at risk of losing federal funding.

The medical center, an academic healthcare facility associated with the University of Virginia (UVA), has been offering transgender medical care to minors aged 11 to 25, including providing children with puberty blockers that delay sex-related physical changes and cross-sex hormones, like testosterone and estrogen.

However, in compliance with a recent executive order from the White House banning such treatments on children, the Board of Visitors passed a resolution that the center will no longer provide the services to new patients.

"Common sense and medical ethics have prevailed," Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, R-Va., wrote in a post on X.

"I’m grateful to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors for its action today to stop harmful transgender treatments for minors and to transfer existing patients to other providers," Younkin added.

Under the new resolution, the UVA Hospital will no longer provide new patients who are minors with services related to sex, contraception, and referrals for gender-affirming surgeries and voice therapy, according to its website.

Additionally, transgender individuals seeking medical care at the hospital will be referred to alternate private healthcare providers.

Trump signed an executive order in January to restrict "chemical and surgical" sex-change procedures for minors and threatened to cut off "federal financial participation in institutions which seek to provide these barbaric medical procedures that should have never been allowed to take place!"

UVA Hospital affiliates currently receive over $100 million in federal funding each year from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and "a loss of such federal funding would jeopardize the financial viability of the University," according to the new resolution.

The UVA School of Medicine’s funding increased from $155.1 million in 2022 to $174.2 million in 2023, the UVA reported in February, citing the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.

A federal judge on Monday blocked immigration agents from conducting enforcement operations in houses of worship for Quakers and a handful of other religious groups.

U.S. District Judge Theodore Chang found that the Trump administration policy could violate their religious freedom and should be blocked while a lawsuit challenging it plays out.

The preliminary injunction from the Maryland-based judge only applies to the plaintiffs, which also include a Georgia-based network of Baptist churches and a Sikh temple in California.

They sued after the Trump administration threw out Department of Homeland Security policies limiting where migrant arrests could happen as President Donald Trump seeks to make good on campaign promises to carry out mass deportations.

The policy change said field agents using “common sense” and “discretion” can conduct immigration enforcement operations at houses of worship without a supervisor's approval.

Plaintiffs’ attorneys argue that the new DHS directive departs from the government’s 30-year-old policy against staging immigration enforcement operations in “protected areas,” or “sensitive locations.”

Five Quaker congregations from Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia sued DHS and its secretary, Kristi Noem, on Jan. 27, less than a week after the new policy was announced.

Many immigrants are afraid to attend religious services while the government enforces the new rule, lawyers for the congregations said in a court filing.

“It's a fear that people are experiencing across the county," plaintiffs' attorney Bradley Girard told the judge during a February hearing. “People are not showing up, and the plaintiffs are suffering as a result.”

Government lawyers claim the plaintiffs are asking the court to interfere with law-enforcement activities based on mere speculation.

“Plaintiffs have provided no evidence indicating that any of their religious organizations have been targeted," Justice Department attorney Kristina Wolfe told the judge, who was appointed by President Barack Obama.

More than two dozen Christian and Jewish groups representing millions of Americans have also filed a similar but separate lawsuit in Washington, D.C.

Plaintiffs in the Maryland case are represented by the Democracy Forward Foundation, whose lawyers asked the judge to block DHS enforcement of the policy on a nationwide basis.

“DHS’s new policy gives it the authority to enter any house of worship across the country, no matter its religious beliefs,” the attorneys wrote.

Government lawyers say immigration enforcement activities have been allowed in sensitive places, including houses of worship, for decades. The only change in the policy is that a supervisor's approval is no longer mandatory, they added.

House Judiciary subpoenas FBI for docs pertaining to bureau's alleged misconduct under Biden admin

Jordan accused the FBI of departing from its "public safety mission," under the Biden administration and Wray's leadership, and claimed it also "refused any real transparency or accountability for its actions."

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan on Monday subpoenaed the FBI for information and documents related to its investigation into alleged misconduct that occurred in the bureau during the Biden administration.

The committee previously subpoenaed the bureau for the documents during the 118th Congress, but Jordan claimed former FBI Director Christopher Wray failed to produce the necessary material.

Jordan accused the FBI of departing from its "public safety mission," under the Biden administration and Wray's leadership in a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, and claimed it also "refused any real transparency or accountability for its actions."

"When President [Donald] Trump nominated you to serve as the Director of the FBI, he rightly called you an 'advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution' who will 'bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI,'" Jordan wrote. "During this critical time in the FBI’s history, when Americans deeply distrust the FBI, it is important that you succeed in restoring public confidence and creating much-needed transparency."

The chairman asked Patel to provide records related to the Biden administration's "insertion of federal law enforcement into local school board meetings," the Richmond field office's memorandum that labeled traditional Catholics as "violent extremists," and Wray's alleged "slow-walking" of the investigation into the January 6 pipe bombs.

He also asked for records and documents related to the FBI's alleged use of confidential human sources on January 6, and the administration's alleged collusion with technology companies to censor free speech, among others.

Jordan requested that all the information be turned over to Congress by March 17.
