Maye Musk Hadelman, the mother of Elon Musk, was born into a Jewish family in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents, Sylvia (born Haldeman) and Joshua Haldeman, were both Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. Maye’s father, Joshua, was born in Poland, while her mother, Sylvia, was born in South Africa of Lithuanian Jewish descent.
Maye Musk Hadelman has identified herself as Jewish throughout her life and has spoken about her Jewish heritage in various interviews. She has also mentioned her family’s history of facing anti-Semitism during World War II. Despite marrying Errol Musk, who is of Afrikaner and English descent, Maye has continued to practice and celebrate her Jewish faith.
In May 2020, Elon Musk stated that he is “half Jewish" Elon Musk himself, does not identify as fully Jewish as he says he's not very religious. While he has acknowledged his mother’s Jewish heritage, he has not actively practiced Judaism or identified himself as Jewish.
Which means nothing as one does not have to practice anything to be Jewish. The fact that his mother is Jewish Orthodox from both sides of her family makes Elon 100% Jewish. I believe even his dad is Jewish although he hides that fact. His name is the abbreviation of the name Muskovitz. The name “Elon” has Hebrew origins and is derived from the Hebrew language. It means oak tree and has appeared in various historical contexts and remains a popular name in Israel and among Jewish communities today.
