President Donald Trump’s administration could consider criminal charges against U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) staffers following a bombshell investigation by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) that uncovered severe abuses within foreign aid programs.

 

On Wednesday, Pete Marocco, USAID’s deputy administrator-designate, briefed members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee on the ongoing review of the agency’s spending and operations, conducted under Trump’s directive.

 

The Capitol Hill meeting sought to provide lawmakers with an update on the review of foreign aid policies implemented under Trump. During discussions, Marocco suggested that the ongoing investigation—which has been shaped by findings from Elon Musk’s DOGE initiative—could result in criminal referrals related to misconduct at USAID.

 

Apparently, there’s still judicial action that has even come out as late as this morning,” Rep. Keith Self, (R-TX), who attended the meeting, told DailyMail in an interview. “They intend to refer USAID officials to DOJ,” he added, highlighting that fraud “is a criminal act.”

 

The congressman stated that Morocco did not rule out the possibility of both USAID employees and grant recipients being implicated in criminal activities.

Inmates in men’s prison provided with women’s undergarments, mascara, and packing device.

 

According to the recent list, men are allowed to wear “women’s undergarments.” The document also says some men are allowed access to hairspray, mascara, and women’s shoes.

 

One inmate is provided with a “packing device.” An insider told Alpha News “the fact this is allowed at a biological men’s prison in Minnesota blows my mind.”

 

“Unfortunately, what’s happening is that individuals’ feelings trump reality. So, men who feel that they are a woman can go into these places and ask for ridiculous accommodations and the prisoners and the staff are supposed to go along with the males’ fantasies. I find that appalling,” Rep. Franson said.

 

The DOC said the accommodations are provided for under the department’s policies on transgender inmates.

 

“There was more discussion on how to treat the men in the women’s facility rather than actually being able to [ask], how do the women in the prison feel, whether or not they are a prisoner or if they are an employee? Those feelings were not taken into consideration,” Franson said.

 

“There were no townhall meetings where the citizens of the communities could weigh in on this radical change. Instead, the women were told to just suck it up and move over because your spaces now belong to men,” she said.

In 2012 the Democrat law firm, Perkins Coie was awarded a "Secure Work Environment" accredited by the FBI, allowing it to handle sensitive and classified information.

President Trump: They [DOGE] found these things where billions of dollars has been poured down the drain; that's not about people, that's about contracts, where billions and billions of dollars was just thrown out the window. Calls Grow For Schiff To Be Charged Over ‘Russian Collusion’ Hoax

 

Conservatives are ramping up their calls for Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) to be held legally accountable for his role in pushing a now well-debunked claim that President Donald Trump was a dupe for Russian President Vladimir Putin during his first term.

 

The so-called “Russian collusion” narrative, which Schiff and many others in the media pushed for years during Trump’s first term, was the subject of multiple investigations by the House and by independent prosecutors, including John Durham, a former U.S. attorney, and Robert Mueller, a former FBI director.

 

But all of them concluded that there was zero evidence supporting the claim, while other investigators discovered that a plot to saddle Trump with the false claim in order to hamper his presidency and his ability to carry out his foreign policy vision for the country.

 

Now, several conservative voices are calling for FBI Director Kash Patel and the Justice Department to hold Schiff and others accountable for pushing the dangerous hoax.

“Now we know why Schiff is so panicked about Patel being confirmed as the FBI Director. Patel can lock Schiff Up in prison [where] he belongs,” wrote one X user.

 

“Will it really happen? Will he finally be accountable for the millions he deceived, the millions he’s cost taxpayers, the turmoil in foreign relationships over his lies and subversive behavior? I truly hope so!” another said.

 

“That’s a good point. I thought Schiff was pardoned for anything that happened in those years. But you’re right. Nice catch, Nick!” added influencer Paul A. Szypula.

“Listen to me — this is gonna be very important in the coming days,” he went on, perhaps dropping a hint that he was about to be appointed to the FBI. “I’m not letting this go. I wanna find out what happened because it can never happen again. Not to a Democrat. Not a Republican. Not to a Libertarian. Not to any United States citizen,” Bongino said.

 

“You do not get to alter or try to change the course of electoral politics by fabricating a story hijacking the justice system then to give the patina of truth to a fake story,” he continued. “You don’t get to do that. Why do I bring that up now? Because who was the ringmaster of that circus? Yes, Adam Schiff, and no, I’m not letting it go,” he added.

 

Last week, Schiff (D-Calif.) took the highly unusual step of traveling to the FBI headquarters building in Washington, D.C., this week to lament the president’s choice of Patel to become the bureau’s new director just hours before the full Senate confirmed him.

 

Following his remarks, others — including Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk — noted on social media that Schiff’s antics reflect his realization that Patel, who uncovered the ‘Trump-Russia collusion’ hoax, is well aware of the California Democrat’s role in perpetuating that lie, even turning it into one of two impeachment cases during Trump’s first term.

(Reuters) -A federal judge on Thursday said President Donald Trump's firing of a Democratic member of the National Labor Relations Board was illegal and ordered that she be reinstated to her post.

 

The decision by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell in Washington, D.C., restores a quorum of three members at the labor board, which had been paralyzed and unable to decide cases involving private-sector employers after Trump removed Gwynne Wilcox in January.

 

Wilcox claimed that Trump violated a requirement in federal labor law that NLRB members only be removed for "neglect of duty or malfeasance in office." The Trump administration acknowledged violating the law, but said the protections from removal for board members were unconstitutional.

 

The NLRB, which has five members when fully stocked, enforces laws protecting private-sector workers' rights to organize, join unions and advocate for better working conditions.

Lawyers at Immigration and Customs Enforcement are working to secure warrants to arrest those individuals, according to sources who spoke with the news outlet.

 

The report comes a day after a detention center in Texas reopened to restart the detention of migrant families and kids.

 

Trump in early December said he wanted to deport all immigration law violators.

 

After taking office on Jan. 20, he signed an executive order aimed at ramping up arrests of immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

 

He also rolled back a Biden-era memo that limited U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of non-criminals or low-level offenders, emphasizing that anyone without legal status could be subject to arrest and deportation.

 

His administration since has pulled employees from ICE's investigative arm, the Justice Department, the IRS and the State Department to assist with immigration enforcement.

 

During Trump's first three weeks in office, ICE arrested about 14,000 people, border czar Tom Homan said last month. That amounts to 667 per day — twice last year's average but only on pace for a quarter-million arrests annually.

The U.S. House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed Alphabet Thursday seeking its communications with former President Joe Biden's administration about content moderation policies.

 

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican, also asked the YouTube parent company for similar communications with companies and groups outside government, according to a copy of the subpoena seen by Reuters.

 

The subpoena seeks communications about limits or bans on content about President Donald Trump, Tesla CEO and close Trump ally Elon Musk, the virus that causes COVID-19 and a host of other conservative discussion topics.

 

The Trump administration and Republicans in Congress have taken aim at Big Tech companies over policies they say lead to suppression of conservative viewpoints online. U.S. Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson has said companies that coordinated their policies with others or misled users about their own policies may have violated the law.

 

Last year under scrutiny from Jordan's House panel, Meta Platforms said the Biden administration had pressured it to censor content. The company ultimately dialed back its content moderation in January.

 

"Alphabet, to our knowledge, has not similarly disavowed the Biden-Harris Administration's attempts to censor speech," Jordan said in a letter to the company on Thursday.

 

Google spokesperson Jose Castaneda said the company will "continue to show the committee how we enforce our policies independently, rooted in our commitment to free expression.”

Finerty has been embroiled in scandal after a recent report from the Air Force inspector general found he hadmultiple inappropriate and 'sexual' relationships with women who worked on Capitol Hill. The names of the women were redacted in the report and it is not clear if Ernst was named.Ernst’s relationship with Finerty was confirmed to ProPublicaby two sources with ‘knowledge of the investigation' but has not been independently confirmed by DailyMail.com.

 

His alleged relationship with Ernst raised ethical concerns according to ProPublica because Ernst sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee. The committee oversees the Pentagon, and she is one of the most powerful voices on the hill when it comes to the military. The ProPublica report also alleged Ernst previously had a romantic relationship with a legislative affairs official who worked for the Navy. It cited three sources familiar with the relationship which took place around 2019.

 

Neither the senator nor the two officials were married at the time and Senate rules do not ban lawmakers from romantic relationships with lobbyists or advocates.

 

‘The fake news media is clearly too busy gossiping to report the real news that Senator Ernst is focused on cutting waste at the Pentagon,’ a statement from her office stated. ‘Her vote and work in the Senate are guided by the voices of Iowans who elected her and her constitutional duty alone. Any insinuation otherwise by tabloid “journalism” is a slanderous lie – full stop,’ it continued.

 

ProPublica's report states that 'ethics experts' say 'such relationships can create a conflict of interest, and other lawmakers have been criticized for such behavior in the past.' (Everyone is comped in DC) The senator’s office declined to comment beyond the statement provided to ProPublica.

 

The 41-page report detailing the inspector general’s investigation into Finerty was first completed in September 2023, but it was shared with Congress and the public this year in response to a records request.

 

The investigation was first launched in response to a complaint filed in January 2023 which accused Finerty of ‘unprofessional and inappropriate relationships with multiple women.’

 

While much of the report and the names of the women were redacted, it stated that testimony and documented evidence such as texts indicated that Finerty ‘engaged in sexual, inappropriate, or unprofessional relationships with five women.’

 

‘The text messages contain explicit sexual content and photos showing an intimate, cyber sexual relationship with an enlisted member,’ the report read.

The release of the report documenting Finerty’s behavior with the women was first reported by Politico in late January.

 

In response to ProPublica,Finerty’s lawyer also released a statement, but declined to say whether he had a relationship with Ernst while lobbying for the Air Force.

 

‘The IG report found no evidence suggesting anything remotely approaching either conflict of interest or undue influence involving General Finerty and anyone on Capitol Hill,’ the statement read.‘Further, the IG report found no law, rule, policy or guidance prohibited any of General Finerty’s relationships. Any suggestion to the contrary would be defamatory,’ it continued.

 

Ernst is the first woman combat veteran in the Senate. The 54-year-old served in the Iowa Army National Guard during the Iraq War and has played a crucial role in the congressional oversight of the Pentagon and allegations of sexual misconduct in the military.

Trump begins CIA cuts – NYT

The firing process has reportedly started with the agency’s newest employees

 

The administration of US President Donald Trump has begun cutting CIA staff as part of a broader effort to downsize government agencies, the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing sources. The first dismissals reportedly targeted officers hired within the past two years,many of whom were still on probationary contracts.

 

According to sources familiar with the situation, several recently hired CIA employees were summoned to a location away from the agency’s headquarters in Langley, Virginia, where they were asked to surrender their credentials without prior notice.The firings have reportedly led to anxiety among remaining CIA staff, with some employees allegedly avoiding calls from security out of fear they may be next. (WTF, the CIA that goes around the world demolishing countries and leaders, and having people killed get anxiety attacks? That wouldn’t have been hired if they had those symptoms.)

 

A CIA spokeswoman confirmed to the New York Times that certain recently hired officers had been let go but did not specify how many. She signaled that thedismissals were performance-based, as did several unnamed officials who spoke to the outlet.

 

The reported firings come amid Trump’s efforts to cut government ranks as part of a drive to eliminate wasteful state spending, bureaucracy, and corruption – a campaign spearheaded by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under billionaire Elon Musk. During the first cabinet meeting of his second term, Trumppledged to “cut down the size of government,” arguing that federal agencies had become “bloated” and “sloppy.” On February 11, he signed an executive order on workforce optimization, mandating large-scale reductions across government agencies and limiting hiring to essential positions.

 

The report also follows a federal judge’s ruling that cleared the way for CIA Director John Ratcliffe to fire employees at will. In late February, Judge Anthony J. Trenga ruled on a lawsuit brought by officers dismissed after Trump’s order to cut diversity programs in government agencies.That decision effectively granted Ratcliffe the authority to remove any CIA employee for any reason without the right to appeal.

 

The Trump administration has previously cracked down on the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Washington’s primary mechanism for funding political projects abroad, firing some 2,000 employees and putting nearly all remaining staff on leave. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report,Trump is also preparing an executive order aimed at dismantling the Department of Education, which he has repeatedly criticized as a “big con job.”

Just like clockwork, there is talk of recession in the air. The announcement will come soon and be confirmed by summer. The Atlanta Fed just revised its output forecast for the first quarter to expect a contraction at-2.8 percent. This is very sudden. Only a week earlier, the same tools (GDPNow) had forecast a 2 percent increase in output in the first quarter.

At this point, many people are probably dismissing all these forecasts and big numbers emanating from experts on the public payroll. They have been wrong about so much for so very long. And yet, Wall Street is moved by such data reports, even when the problems with them are so obvious. As they say, the numbers might be fake but they are all we have.

Trump envoy calls for Russia-US ‘reset’

Diplomatically isolating Moscow is no longer a viable strategy, Keith Kellogg has said

 

US President DonaldTrump plans to “reset relations with Russia” and withdraw from an “endless proxy war” in Ukraine, his special envoy Keith Kellogg has said.

 

In a speech at theCouncil on Foreign Relationson Thursday Kellog claimed “the need to reset relations with Russia, to secure Americans’ vital national interests and ultimately to stop US entanglement in an endless proxy war” define Trump’s approach.

 

“The continued isolation” of Russia “is no longer a viable or a sustainable strategy and is certainly not a responsible approach diplomatically,” the envoy added.

 

Instead, Kellog said, Trump will use “sticks and carrots on both sides” to bring Kiev and Moscow to the negotiating table. The administration will “aggressively” apply leverage, such as “the seizing of frozen Russian sovereign assets to rebuild and rearm Ukraine.” (that is highly doubtful)

 

Trump halted the flow of billions of dollars of US military aid to Ukraine this week, in an attempt to force Kiev to change its position to talks.

 

Following a disastrous meeting in Washington with Zelensky last week Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of attempting to secure US support for a protracted conflict with Russia, rather than seeking peace.

 

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed on Wednesday that Zelensky has been “sabotaging and undermining” Washington’s efforts.“It’s a proxy war between nuclear powers – the United States, helping Ukraine, and Russia – and it needs to come to an end,” the top diplomat said.

 

Relations between Russia and the US are warming. High-level talks in Riyadh last month marked the superpowers’ first diplomatic engagement since Washington broke off contact in 2022, after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict.

Trump pauses tariffs for some Canadian and Mexican goods.

 

The one-month exemption will lift tariffs for all Canadian and Mexican goods compliant with United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA, a free trade agreement.

 

Officials said roughly 50% of imports from Mexico comply with USMCA, and 38% of imports from Canada comply with USMCA. Motor vehicles and auto accessories make up a good portion of the of USMCA-compliant trade, the officials added.

 

Despite pausing tariffs on a large number of goods from Canada and Mexico, Trump said on Thursday afternoon he is still sticking with his plan to issue tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum products starting next week.

 

"We're not looking at that," he said at the White House when asked about a pause on those tariffs.

 

The easing of tariffs on some Mexican goods came after a conversation between Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

 

"Our relationship has been a very good one, and we are working hard, together, on the Border, both in terms of stopping Illegal Aliens from entering the United States and, likewise, stopping Fentanyl. Thank you to President Sheinbaum for your hard work and cooperation!" Trump said.

 

Minutes later, Sheinbaum reciprocated in similar fashion.

 

"We had an excellent and respectful call in which we agreed that our work and collaboration have yielded unprecedented results, within the framework of respect for our sovereignties," Sheinbaum said in a post on X.

 

Trump made the announcement soon after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said a one-month delay of tariffs on Mexico and Canada would likely apply to all products compliant with the USMCA.

IS BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH RIFE WITH FRAUD, INCOMPETENCE, OR BOTH?

 

Biomedical scientists around the world publish around 1 million new papers a year. But a staggering number of these cannot be replicated. Drastic action is needed now to clean up this mess, argues pharmacologist Csaba Szabo in Unreliable, his upcoming book on irreproducibility in the scientific literature.

“The things that we’ve tried are not working,” says Szabo, a professor at the University of Fribourg. “I’m trying to suggest something different.”

Unreliable, which will be available in March, is a disturbing but compelling exploration of the causes of irreproducibility—from hypercompetition and honest errors, to statistical shenanigans and outright fraud.

In the book, Szabo argues that there is no quick fix and that incremental efforts such as educational workshops and checklists have made little difference. He says the whole system has to be overhauled with new scientific training programs, different ways of allocating funding, novel publication systems, and more criminal charges for fraudsters.

“We need to figure out how to reduce the waste and make science more effective,” Szabo says.

This interview was edited for clarity and length.

Why did you write this book?

As most scientists, I go to scientific meetings and go out for beers with other scientists and this topic keeps coming up. “Why is it that nobody can reproduce anybody else's findings?” we ask. This is not a new question. I was sitting around a table with some colleagues and collaborators in New York at the start of my sabbatical, and one of them said, “Somebody should write a book about this.” Another said to me, “You are on sabbatical,” and to be honest, I’d vaguely had this idea already.

It felt like everybody wanted this book to happen, but nobody had wanted to write it.

What were your biggest takeaways?

If you look at all the published literature—not just the indexed articles on PubMed but everything that is published anywhere—probably 90% of it is not reproducible. That was shocking even to me. And probably 20–30% of it is totally made up.

I didn't expect the numbers to be that high going into this. It’s just absurd, but this is what I came to conclude.

Just think about all the money wasted. And paper mills [fraudulent organizations that write and publish fake research] make several billion dollars per year. This is a serious industry.

Another big shock was learning that the process of trying to do something about the reproducibility crisis—trying to clean up the literature, trying to identify bad actors—is not done by the establishment, by grant-giving bodies, by universities, by journals or by governments. Who is doing this? Private investigators, working on their free time at home, while worried about who is going to sue them.

What kind of a system is this?

You propose some radical solutions. Walk me through these.

This is an ecosystem. You need to reform the education, the granting process, the publication process, and everything else all at once.

If you start on the education side, what I propose is that there should be a separate training tracks for “scientific discovery” and “scientific integrity.” People need to be trained in how to do experimental design, statistical analysis, data integrity, and independent refereeing of papers and grants—and this should be its own separate profession.

One the granting side, for the most part right now we work in a system where each scientist is viewed as a solo artist, and they submit individual grants to get funding. But in the end, big research institutions tend to keep getting the same amount of money each year. So why do all of this? Why not instead give each institution a lump sum of money for research and attach reproducibility and replication and scientific integrity requirements to the funds.

That one is really controversial. It would put the burden on the institution to figure out the best way to spend the money. It would require very smart institutional leadership, with long-term vision and the ability to identify quality science. It wouldn't be easy. But you could over time get to see which institutions funded projects that were reproducible and translatable, and which ones didn’t.

A benefit of this approach is that people could spend less time writing grants and more time on research.

Then on the publication side, top journals could start to prioritize submissions that come with replication supplements. Once a scientist has made a new discovery, they would ask an outside laboratory to try to reproduce it, and then attach that as a supplemental submission to give a higher level of confidence in their work. I think this is actually a good idea and not that hard to implement.

You also want to shrink the scientific workforce, and you advocate for cameras and keystroke monitors in labs. How do you think these will go down with the research community?

There are cameras in cockpits and cameras behind the barista in Starbucks. There is a lot of money at stake here, too, and eventually there are human lives at stake here. Why is it so outrageous then to say that somebody has to try to control it?

There are so many things we could do. I'm not saying that my ideas are brilliant. I'd love to see more out-of-the-box ideas. If somebody else comes up with better ideas, God bless them; let them implement it. This is just a starting point.

Stanford’s Jay Bhattacharya, who has been tapped to lead the National Institutes of Health, has posted on X that increased funding for replication studies could help address irreproducibility. The research community is concerned about the future of the NIH under President Trump, but could there be a chance his NIH pick will prioritize replication efforts?

I don't know Jay, but if he gets the job, I don't think he wants to go down in history as the person who destroyed American biomedical science. He wants to go down in history as the person who reformed American biomedical science. Maybe I am still naive and hope for too much from our politicians or governments, but this reform has to come from the top, from whoever holds and controls the money. The American system, and the NIH in particular, has a lot of influence. They have more power than even they perhaps realize, if they really wanted to do something.

But Jay is not yet the head of the NIH. The day-to-day events that are happening, such as the stopping of meetings and purchases, feel punitive. It does not feel like they are part of some improvement master plan.

You punctuated the book with dozens of funny, dark cartoons. Which of these is your favorite?

I went through so many cartoons, and that was so much fun. They have this biting humor. Honestly, some of those cartoons are even more offensive than anything I say with words. They hammer down some points.

I think one of the most offensive ones is the scientists at the “publication workshop” [four scientists in a restaurant, ordering up a paper on herbal nanoparticles in cancer cells for publication in a journal with good impact factor]. Another one is of a recruitment committee looking at three candidates for a job. One is a plagiarist, one is a cheat, and the third is a sexual harasser, and they decide to go with the one with the most grant money. But it's not a joke—I have seen this kind of thing.

Kremlin responds to Polish PM’s ‘arms race’ call

Donald Tusk has called for the EU to escalate its military buildup in order to outpace Russia

 

Moscow will not engage in an arms race with the EU, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said. He was speaking after Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk urged the bloc to ramp up its military spending.

 

Tusk on Wednesday accused Moscow of starting a new arms race and insisted that Western Europe must respond. “The war, the geopolitical uncertainty and the new arms race started by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin have left Europe with no choice,” he stated on social media.

 

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Peskov saidit was regrettable to hear such statements. “They will not win against us because we will not play with them; we will be busy ensuring our own interests,” he said.

 

“We regret the confrontational, even militaristic, statements coming from Warsaw and Paris, which show that Europe has yet to adjust to the new dynamic between Moscow and Washington,” Peskov said. He didn’t rule out, however, that European leaders would eventually “feel which way the wind is blowing.”

On Tuesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed a massive defense spending hike. As part of the 'ReArm Europe Plan', the bloc would spend about $840 billion on defense – double total EU defense expenditures in 2024.

 

The European leaders’ calls come as US President DonaldTrump’s administration has recently signaled a major policy shift, urging European nations to take the lead in their own defense, as well as in supporting Kiev.

 

Last month, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that Washington intended to refocus its military priorities on countering China,warning the EU not to assume that American forces would remain in the region indefinitely.

 

Moscow has rejected accusations that it poses a military threat to Europe, condemning Macron’s remarks as “highly confrontational.” Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed Western claims of an imminent Russian attack as “nonsense” and accused European leaders of inflating the threat to justify higher military spending.

 

Putin earlier reiterated that Russia has no interest in being drawn into an arms racebut stressed that Moscow would take all necessary steps to safeguard its own security and that of its allies.

Russian forces have struck a detachment of foreign mercenaries in the Ukrainian town of Krivoy Rog, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said in a statement on Thursday.

The establishmentwas being used by “Ukrainian commanding officers” and “foreign mercenaries,” co-chairman of the council on integrating Russia’s new territories, Vladimir Rogov told RIA, citing local sources.

 

The Russian Defense Ministry regularly reports on successful strikes against foreign mercenaries and military advisors in Ukraine.

European Union leaders are holding emergency talks about ways to quickly increase their military budgets after the Trump administration signaled that Europe must take care of its own security and also suspended assistance to Ukraine.

 

In just over a month, President Donald Trump has overturned old certainties about U.S. reliability as a security partner, as he appears to move closer to Russia and withdraws American support for Ukraine. On Monday, Trump ordered a pause to U.S. military supplies to Ukraine as he sought to press Zelenskyy to engage in negotiations to end the war with Russia.

 

The Talks

 

The talks are set to take place in Saudi Arabia.

 

In his nightly address, Zelenskyy said he would travel to Saudi Arabia on Monday. He said his team would stay on to hold talks with U.S. officials about ending the war between Ukraine and Russia.

 

“Ukraine is most interested in peace,” Zelenskyy said. “As we told President Trump, Ukraine is working and will work exclusively constructively for a quick and reliable peace.”

 

Meanwhile, the EU has been meeting to talk about how to bolster security amid uncertainties over the rapid changes invoked by the Trump administration

 

EU Maneuvers

 

European Union leaders on Thursday backed new defense spending plans aimed at freeing up billions of euros for the continent’s security after the Trump administration signaled that Europe would have to fend for itself in future.

 

The 27 leaders signed off on a move to loosen budget restrictions so that willing EU countries can increase their military spending. They also urged the European Commission to explore new ways “to facilitate significant defense spending at national level in all Member States,” a statement said.

 

The EU’s executive branch estimates that around 650 billion euros ($702 billion) could be freed up in this way.

 

The leaders also took note of a European Commission offer of a loan package worth 150 billion euros ($162 billion) to buy new military equipment and invited EU headquarters staff “to examine this proposal as a matter of urgency.”

 

European Union leaders have failed to reach a full consensus on a common stance in defense of Ukraine and its war against Russia.

 

That’s according to an official with knowledge of the vote at Thursday’s close-door meeting.

 

A statement was signed off among 26 EU members with a lone member state out, the official said.

 

Hungary has long been a holdout in previous attempts to reach consensus.

 

The official declined to elaborate on which country did not back the statement. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the summit was still ongoing.

 

The EU says it wants to back Ukraine with funds and military material so it can negotiate from a position of strength. Hungary says such measures would only extend the war.

Trump planning major NATO shakeup – NBC

The US may choose to defend only those member states that meet the bloc’s defense spending targets, the media outlet claims

 

The US could decide to only defend those NATO countries that actually meet the bloc’s spending requirements, four former and current officials have told NBC.

 

Such a policy would mark a major departure from a core article of the military bloc, which states that an attack on any NATO member is to be treated as an attack on all of them.

 

A similar principle would apply to joint military exercises and American overseas deployments, the report said. Washington could choose to prioritize drills with those NATO partners that meet the defense spending targets and also reposition its forces in Europe according to the same criteria.

 

The administration of President Donald Trumphas previously signaled that it was planning to reduce its military presence in Europe. The president also recently urged the EU to take the lead in its own defense and to bear the brunt of any future security guarantees for Kiev.

An Echuca-Moama man has spoken of how he helped overpower a 17-year-old boy armed with a gun who boarded a plane at Avalon Airport on Thursday afternoon.

 

The boy allegedly pushed a hole in the airport fence while dressed as a maintenance worker in high-vis clothing and wearing a tool belt.

 

Barry Clark, a former shearer and boxer, said he noticed the gun while the boy was speaking with a flight attendant.

 

“The lovely air hostess was just questioning this bloke trying to come on dressed up as a worker,” Clark told ABC Radio.

 

Clark was among three people who wrestled the teenager to the floor of Sydney-bound flight JQ610, which had about 160 passengers on board, just before 3pm.

 

Police have charged a 17-year-old Ballarat boy with multiple offences, including unlawfully taking control of an aircraft, bomb hoax and possessing a firearm.

He was remanded in custody to appear at a children’s court.

Bush's legal team asserting that the president's presence was not required as long as said president had authorized the signature.

 

What's not clear, in the case of Biden, is who was running the autopen and whether Biden was aware it was happening.

 

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is demanding that the Department of Justice investigate whether Biden's obvious cognitive decline allowed unelected bureaucrats to essentially run the government without presidential oversight. If this is true — and let's be honest, all signs point to yes — every executive order, every pardon, and every official action taken under Biden's name could be constitutionally void.

Donald Trump truly is an artist. For some inexplicable reason, millions of federal employees have government credit cards that they use to buy whatever they want… well, they DID, that is. That was before Trump.

 

In one of his funniest moves yet, Donald Trump just reset all those wasteful credit cards to a credit limit of one dollar.

 

This effectively makes every single one of those credit cards completely useless to to the employees who have them.
