CNN poll: Trump address to Congress gets modestly positive marks, changes few minds(after the poll was released. kek)

By Ariel Edwards-Levy, CNN1/2

Updated 7:39 AM EST, Wed March 5, 2025

The Republican-heavy audience that tuned in to hear President Donald Trump’s speech on Tuesday greeted it with tempered positivity, according to a CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

Speech-watchers broadly (60% to 76%, odd they left that out) said Trump’s policies would take the country in the right direction, with majorities saying the same across five issue areas that were the focus of the president’s speech. But fewer expressed strong confidence in Trump to help people like them, use his presidential power responsibly or provide the nation with real leadership.

Roughly 7 in 10 (70% had to add this) speech-watchers said they had at least a somewhat positive reaction to Trump’s speech tonight, with a smaller 44% offering a very positive response. That’s lower than the 57% of viewers who rated Trump’s initial address to Congress very positively eight years ago, or the 51% who said the same of President Joe Biden’s initial address in 2021. It also comes just below the 48% “very positive” rating Trump saw for his 2018 State of the Union.

Good marks from speech-watchers are typical for presidential addresses to Congress, which tend to attract generally friendly audiences(desperate) that disproportionately hail from presidents’ own parties. In CNN’s speech reaction polls, which have been conducted most years dating back to the Clinton era, audience reactions have always been positive.

The pool of people who watched Trump speak on Tuesday was about 14 percentage points more Republican than the general public.

The Trump-friendly audience reacted negatively to a protest effort from a Democratic member of Congress. Eight in 10 (the forgot this 80%) Americanswho watched the speech said they saw Rep. Al Green’s interruption of Trump’s speech as inappropriate, with just 20% saying the representative from Texas acted appropriately. Green was ejected from the House chamber after continuing to protest following a warning from House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Roughly 6 in 10 viewers said in a poll conducted before the speech that they approved of Trump’s handling of the presidency overall. By contrast, Trump’s approval rating is underwater with the American public as a whole, a CNN poll released Sunday found, with 48% of U.S. adults approving of his performance as president and 52% disapproving.

Trump’s speech on Tuesday did little to further improve the already-positive perspectives of his audienceKEK. In a survey conducted prior to the speech, 61% said they believed his policies would move the country in the right direction; afterward, 66% of the same people said his policies would take the country down the right path. The share who believed Trump has had the right priorities so far stood at 56% prior to the speech and 59% immediately following its conclusion.

Half of speech-watchers said they held a lot of confidence in Trump to provide real leadership, while 45% said they had a lot of confidence in him to use his presidential power responsibly, and just 4 in 10 expressed high confidence in his ability to help people like them.Majorities of 65% or more said they had at least some confidence in him across each metric.

Trump scored his highest marks of the night for his policies on immigration: 76% of speech-watcherssaid his proposed policies on that issue would take America in the right direction, compared with closer to 6 in 10 who said the same of his proposals to change how the government works (63%), or his proposed policies on the economy (62%) or tariffs (56%). That’s a shift from CNN’s polling on his first term speeches, when he consistently rated higher on economic issues than on those related to immigration.

2/2

Most who tuned in said they thought his proposed policies on foreign affairs would move the country in theright direction (61%). Speech-watchers are also largely aligned with Trump’s approach to Ukraine and Russia. Majorities said that based on what they heard in the speech, the president’s policies toward Ukraine (63%) and Russia (58%) offered the right amount of support for each country. Sizable minorities, though, see Trump as too supportive of Russia (37%) and not supportive enough of Ukraine (33%).

Annual presidential addresses rarely lead to significant shifts in presidential approval among the broader American public, particularly in recent years. Historically, first-year addresses to Congress have tended to be better rated than later State of the Union speeches and more likely than others to result in an approval rating bounce. But Trump, the first president in the era of modern presidential polling to serve nonconsecutive terms, isn’t new to the office — and current levels of polarization may also curtail his speech’s potential to affect public opinion.

The CNN poll was conducted by text message with 431 US adults who said they watched the presidential address on Tuesday, and are representative of the views of speech-watchers only. Respondents were recruited to participate before the speech, and were selected by a survey of members of the SSRS Opinion Panel, a nationally representative panel recruited using probability-based sampling techniques. Results for the full sample of speech-watchers have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 5.3 percentage points.

They don’t say was a phenomenally high numbers of approval 69% to 76% is hardly ever give for a Presidential speech!

Disney Cuts Nearly 200 Jobs at ABC News and Entertainment Networks

The data-driven news brand 538 will be shuttered in the cuts.BY ALEX WEPRIN

MARCH 5, 2025 6:25AM

The Walt Disney Co. is slashing just under 200 jobs at ABC News and at its Disney Entertainment Networks divisionas the traditional TV business continues to face economic headwinds, a source familiar with the decision tells The Hollywood Reporter. The cuts represented about 6 percent of the division’s workforce.

ABC News will behit particularly hard, with the data-driven digital news brand 538 being shuttered, teams from Nightline and 20/20 being consolidated, and all three hours of Good Morning America moving under the same top producer, Simone Swink. The company is also merging its digital and social operations.

Disney’s entertainment networks will see cuts in program planning and scheduling, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the cuts there.Disney’s channels include FX and Freeform. The newsletter Status first reported the looming cuts at ABC News.

ABC News last saw job cuts last fall, when around 75 jobs were eliminated. The news division had announced Almin Karamehmedovic as its president last August.

Broadcast news divisions in general are grappling with the changing economics of TV, with structures increasingly consolidated in divisions alongside local TV stations, andthe role of network news president being a smaller role than it was in they heyday of TV.Disney writ large announced structure-driven job cuts last September.

Hubble Captures New View of Colorful Veil

Mar 05, 2025

In this NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image, Hubble once again lifts the veil on a famous — and frequently photographed — supernova remnant: the Veil Nebula.

The remnant of a star roughly 20 times as massive as the Sun that exploded about 10,000 years ago, the Veil Nebula is situated about 2,400 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus.

Hubble images of this photogenic nebula were first taken in 1994 and 1997, and again in 2015.

This view combines images taken in three different filters by Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3, highlighting emission from hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen atoms.

The image shows just a small fraction of the Veil Nebula; if you could see the entire nebula without the aid of a telescope, it would be as wide as six full Moons placed side-by-side.

Although this image captures the Veil Nebula at a single point in time, it helps researchers understand how the supernova remnant evolves over decades.

Combining this snapshot with Hubble observations from 1994 will reveal the motion of individual knots and filaments of gas over that span of time, enhancing our understanding of this stunning nebula.

==State-Level Accountability for Illegal

Wars Comes One Step Closer==

The Tennessee Defend the Guard Act faces its subcommittee hearing Wednesday. 1/2==

Hurricane Helene was the deadliest hurricane to strike the mainland United States since Katrina in 2005, devastating the American southeast with close to $80 billion in estimated damages and killing 219 people.

In Tennessee, which saw severe flooding in its most eastern counties and suffered 18 deaths, more than 580 Tennessee National Guardsmenwere mobilizedSimultaneously, 700 Tennessee National Guardsmen were beginning their mobilization for a year-long deployment 7,000 miles away.

Members of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Tennessee’s largest Guard unit, left for Fort Bliss, Texas on September 28, the day after Hurricane Helene hit their home state.Weeks later, they completed their transition to the Middle East where they’re currently participating in Operation Spartan Shield.

The side-by-side headlines provoked a storm of outrage on social media. “A third of the state is currently underwater. Why are they being shipped overseas instead of being deployed to help their own people?” asked Sean Davis, co-founder of the Federalist.

Steve Cortes, a media commentator and former spokesman for Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns, posted “Ok, we have a MAJOR storm event in parts of Eastern Tennessee…and we are sending troops to help ultra-wealthy countries in the Persian Gulf?!”Cortes asked Governor Bill Lee to “reverse this decision, please,” but once a National Guard unit has been mobilized by the president under Title 10, it’s out of the governor’s hands.

But new legislation introduced in Tennessee and dozens of other states this year seeks to prevent future National Guard deployments of this nature and to reorient the federal government’s priorities back to the United States.

The Defend the Guard Actwould prohibit the deployment of a state’s National Guard into active combat overseas unless Congress has first voted to declare war. This is the same requirement found in Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, but one the federal government has ignored for seventy-five years. The bill does not interfere with domestic Title 32 deployments or overseas training, but would be an effective stopgap measure preventing the president from mobilizing the National Guard into an undeclared war.

Tennessee’s HB 129 is being championed by freshman State Representative Michele Reneau of Signal Mountain. “I think the priorities for the National Guard should be here at home, first of all. And when we have a natural disaster, that’s where our troops should have gone initially,” Reneau told The American Conservative. “But it’s definitely disappointing that our resources didn’t get diverted at home here where we have an immediate need.”

Legislation of this type has been endorsed by bothSecretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. But like so many other of the Trump administration’s reforms, it’s being met with strenuous opposition by the permanent bureaucracy and Pentagon establishment underneath these appointments.

The National Guard Bureau in Washington has launched a full frontal assault on Defend the Guard legislation being introduced in state houses, including pressuring lawmakers and having adjutant generals appear before committee hearings in full dress uniform.

“They have been present at the Capitol and visiting my cosponsors on the bill to lobby against the bill and communicate that we would potentially lose federal funding or four KC-135s that have been on the table since, maybe last year as well,” Reneau explained.

HB 129 and its companion SB 156 have a dozen House cosponsors and three Senate sponsors, including Senator Rusty Crowe, a Vietnam veteran who represents Carter, Johnson, and Washington Counties, the three most affected by Hurricane Helene.

The handshake where someone uses their index finger to press against the inside of your wrist is known as the probing handshake. This gesture is often described as leaving a negative impression and is considered unctuous, meaning overly ingratiating or flattering. It is advised to avoid this type of handshake as it is generally disliked and can create an uncomfortable or even revolting feeling

State-Level Accountability for Illegal Wars Comes One Step Closer

2/2

The opposition’s primary argument is that passage would result in a reprisal by the Pentagon in the form of removing federal funding and equipment. USC § 108 specifies that a state’s National Guard funding can only be withheld if it does not meet training and readiness standards under Title 32; legislation like HB 129 does not affect Title 32 missions, and there exists no mechanism to defund a National Guard out of punishment related to Title 10. If attempted without congressional approval, this unprecedented action would violate multiple federal laws such as the Impoundment Control Act of 1974. Further, multiple members of Congress have publicly said that defunding a state’s National Guard would be a political impossibility.

But the threat (even worded as conjecture) and the imposition of a military figure with one or two stars on their shoulder into the legislative process can sometimes be enough to squash local efforts.

“I have questions about whether their being here in uniform lobbying against the bill potentially violates some sort of [restriction],” said Reneau. “Something I feel is not completely kosher about them being specifically in uniform and lobbying against this bill.”

The legal reasoning presented by the National Guard Bureau is that adjutant generals are state employees not subject to federal anti-lobbying statutes and their lobbying for or against legislation, even in military dress and using taxpayer money, does not violate DoD Directive 1344.10. At a minimum, it’s difficult to argue that this interpretation does not violate the spirit of the law.

One of the Volunteer State’s largest (literally) supporters of Defend the Guard is Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs.

“For me it’s a way to put America First, to hopefully start limiting some of the military adventurism that we’ve seen, and frankly keep our boys and girls out of harm’s way,” Jacobs said about HB 129, recounting that a graduate of a local Knoxville High School was one of the soldiers killed during the evacuation from Afghanistan.

Before his entry into politics, the 7-foot tall Jacobs made his bones as the legendary professional wrestler Kane, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021.

A self-identified Ron Paul Republican for many years, Jacobs has been a consistent advocate for less meddling overseas: “I come from a military family. My dad spent twenty-one years between the Navy and the Air Force. Part of the reason that I feel the way that I do is because of that history, because of knowing what my dad did.”

East Tennessee has formed an unexpected bastion of conservative non-interventionism for decades, and Mayor Jacobs is only the latest iteration. His congressional district was the longtime seat of Rep. Jimmy Duncan, one of the few Republicans to vote against the Iraq War. Today it’s represented by Jacobs’ mayoral predecessor Tim Burchett, an outspoken critic of American involvement in Ukraine and the Middle East.

“We are a different place, and I say that with great affection,” Jacobs told TAC. “I heard someone once say that in Appalachia, we value freedom over wealth.”

“They understand, especially Congressman Duncan and Congressman Burchett, they understand there’s a cost, not only obviously in lives but also in treasure,” he continued. “And part of the reason that our country has accumulated thirty-six and a half trillion dollars in national debt is because of foreign adventurism; and not only wars but also again foreign aid that goes all around the world, sometimes to places that have less debt than we do.”

Last week a Defend the Guard bill unanimously passed its Senate committee in Georgia, another state affected by Hurricane Helene. A hearing for HB 129 has been scheduled for Wednesday before the Tennessee House Public Service Subcommittee.

Reneau highlighted the groundswell of popular support for the measure: “Several people have reached out and said they were excited about the bill. They thought it was just a great show of reinforcing states’ rights and the ability for the state to push back on the federal government and just hold their feet to the fire on their constitutional duties. In fact I think that’s always a good effort.”

FARMing with Data: OpenET Launches new Tool for Farmers and Ranchers

Mar 04, 2025

A NASA and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)-supported research and development team is making it easier for farmers and ranchers to manage their water resources.

The team, called OpenET, created the Farm and Ranch Management Support (FARMS) tool, which puts timely, high-resolution water data directly in the hands of individuals and small farm operators.

By making the information more accessible, the platform can better support decision-making around agricultural planning, water conservation, and water efficiency.

The OpenET team hopes this will help farmers who are working to build greater resiliency in local and regional agriculture communities.

“It’s all about finding new ways to make satellite data easier to access and use for as many people as possible,” said Forrest Melton, the OpenET project scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley.

“The goal is to empower users with actionable, science-based data to support decisions about water management across the West.”

OpenET Data Explorer Tool: The Road to FARMS

The OpenET data explorer tool centers on providing evapotranspiration data.

Evapotranspiration (ET) refers to the amount of water leaving Earth’s surface and returning to the atmosphere through evaporation (from soil and surface water) and transpiration (water vapor released by crops and other plants).

Evapotranspiration is an important factor in agriculture, water resource management, irrigation planning, drought monitoring, and fire risk evaluation.

The FARMS resource is the third phase of OpenET’s Data Explorer tool, launched in 2021, which uses satellite data to quantify evapotranspiration across the western U.S.

It starts with using Landsat data to measure patterns in land surface temperature and key indicators of vegetation conditions.

The satellite data is combined with agricultural data, such as field boundaries, and weather data, such as air temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind speed, and precipitation.

All of these factors feed into a model, which calculates the final evapotranspiration data.

The new FARMS interface was designed to make that data easier to access, with features that meet specific needs identified by users.

“This amount of data can be complicated to use, so user input helped us shape FARMS,” said Jordan Harding, app developer and interface design leader from HabitatSeven.

“It provides a mobile-friendly, map-based web interface designed to make it as easy as possible to get automated, regular reports.”

“The FARMS tool is designed to help farmers optimize irrigation timing and amounts, simplify planning for the upcoming irrigation season, and automate ET and water use reporting,” said Sara Larsen, CEO of OpenET.

“All of this reduces waste, lowers costs, and informs crop planning.”

Although FARMS is geared towards agriculture, the tool has value for other audiences in the western U.S. Land managers who evaluate the impacts of wildfire can use it to evaluate burn scars and changes to local hydrology.

Similarly, resource managers can track evapotranspiration changes over time to evaluate the effectiveness of different forest management plans.

>>22707725

New Features in FARMS

To develop FARMS, the OpenET team held listening sessions with farmers, ranchers, and resource managers.

One requested function was support for field-to-field comparisons; a feature for planning irrigation needs and identifying problem areas, like where pests or weeds may be impacting crop yields.

The tool includes numerous options for drawing or selecting field boundaries, generating custom reports based on selected models and variables, and automatically re-running reports at daily or monthly intervals.

The fine spatial resolution and long OpenET data record behind FARMS make these features more effective. Many existing global ET data products have a pixel size of over half a mile, which is too big to be practical for most farmers and ranchers.

The FARMS interface provides insights at the scale of a quarter-acre per pixel, which offers multiple data points within an individual field.

“If I had told my father about this 15 years ago, he would have called me crazy,” said Dwane Roth, a fourth-generation farmer in Kansas.

“Thanks to OpenET, I can now monitor water loss from my crops in real-time. By combining it with data from our soil moisture probes, this tool is enabling us to produce more food with less water. It’s revolutionizing agriculture.”

For those like sixth-generation California pear farmer Brett Baker, the 25-year span of ET data is part of what makes the tool so valuable.

“My family has been farming the same crop on the same piece of ground for over 150 years,” Baker said.

“Using FARMS gives us the ability to review historical trends and changes to understand what worked and what didn’t year to year: maybe I need to apply more fertilizer to that field, or better weed control to another.

Farmers know their land, and FARMS provides a new tool that will allow us to make better use of land and resources.”

According to Roth, the best feature of the tool is intangible. “Being a farmer is stressful,” Roth said.

“OpenET is beneficial for the farm and the agronomic decisions, but I think the best thing it gives me is peace of mind.”

Continuing Evolution of FARMS

Over the coming months, the OpenET team plans to present the new tool at agricultural conferences and conventions in order to gather feedback from as many users as possible.

“We know that there is already a demand for a seven-day forecast of ET, and I’m sure there will be requests about the interface itself,” said OpenET senior software engineer Will Carrara.

“We’re definitely looking to the community to help us further refine that platform.” “I think there are many applications we haven’t even thought of yet,” Baker added.

“The FARMS interface isn’t just a tool; it’s an entirely new toolbox itself. I’m excited to see what people do with it.”

the U.S. Congress does not have the authority to directly remove a mayor from office. Mayors are local elected officials, typically chosen by the voters of a city or municipality, and their removal is governed by state and local laws, not federal ones. The U.S. Constitution and federal law grant Congress powers over national matters—legislation, taxation, interstate commerce, etc.—but not over the day-to-day governance of cities or the removal of local officials like mayors.

Removal of a mayor usually falls under processes outlined in a state’s constitution, statutes, or a city’s charter. Common mechanisms include:

Recall elections: In many states, voters can petition to hold a special election to remove a mayor before their term ends.

Impeachment or removal by local bodies: Some cities allow city councils or other local authorities to remove a mayor for specific reasons like misconduct or legal violations.

Legal action: If a mayor commits a crime, state courts or law enforcement could intervene, potentially leading to their removal.

For example, in California, voters can initiate a recall (like the one that ousted San Francisco Mayor Daniel Leno in 1992), while in New York, the governor has limited authority to remove certain local officials under specific conditions, but this doesn’t involve Congress.

If you’re thinking of a specific mayor or situation, let me know, and I can dig deeper into the relevant state or local rules!

Handshake Finger Meaning

A handshake where the index finger is extended along the other person's wrist can have various meanings depending on the context and culture. In some groups, particularly among Freemasons, an extended index finger during a handshake can indicate membership and rank, as part of a system of recognition among members.

However, in typical business or social interactions, this gesture might indicate nervousness or a lack of confidence.

It's important to consider the context and individual when interpreting this gesture, as body language can be quite subjective and not universally understood or accepted

NASA uses GPS on the moon for the first time

March 4, 2025

On March 2, Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost made history, becoming the first commercial lunar lander to successfully touchdown on the moon’s surface. The groundbreaking lander is wasting no time in getting to work.

According to NASA, the joint public-private mission has already successfully demonstrated the ability to use Earth-based GPS signals on the lunar surface, marking a major step ahead of future Artemis missions.

Accurate and reliable navigation will be vital for future astronauts as they travel across the moon, but traditional GPS tools aren’t much good when you’re around 225,000 miles from Earth.

One solution could be transmitting data from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to the lunar surface in order to autonomously measure time, velocity, and position.

That’s what mission engineers from NASA and the Italian Space Agency hoped to demonstrate through the Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE), one of the 10 projects packed aboard Blue Ghost.

However, LuGRE’s achievements didn’t only begin after touchdown on the moon. On January 21, the instrument broke NASA’s record for highest altitude GNSS signal acquisition at 209,900 miles from Earth while traveling to the moon.

That record continued to rise during Blue Ghost’s journey over the ensuing days, peaking at 243,000 miles from Earth after reaching lunar orbit on February 20.

NASA currently tracks spacecraft using a mix of onboard sensors and Earth-based tracking signals, but these methods generally require oversight from a team of engineers.

Swapping out some of these systems for GNSS data could reduce the need for human operators, since the signals can be autonomously picked up by spacecraft.

“On Earth we can use GNSS signals to navigate in everything from smartphones to airplanes,” Kevin Coggins, deputy associate administrator for NASA’s SCaN (Space Communications and Navigation) Program, said in a statement.

“Now, LuGRE shows us that we can successfully acquire and track GNSS signals at the Moon.”

LuGRE relied on two GNSS constellations, GPS and Galileo, which triangulate positioning based on dozens of medium Earth orbit satellites that provide real-time tracking data.

It performed its navigational fix at approximately 2 a.m. EST on March 3, while about 225,000 miles from Earth.

Blue Ghost’s LuGRE system will continue collecting information over the next two weeks almost continuously while the lander’s other tools begin their own experiments.

NASA Sets Coverage for Intuitive Machines’ Second Private Moon Landing

Mar 04, 2025

Carrying NASA technology demonstrations and science investigations, Intuitive Machines is targeting their Moon landing no earlier than 12:32 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 6.

The company’s Nova-C lunar lander is slated to land in Mons Mouton, a lunar plateau near the Moon’s South Pole, as part of NASA’s CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) initiative and Artemis campaign to establish a long-term lunar presence.

Watch live landing coverage of the Intuitive Machines 2 (IM-2) landing, hosted by NASA and Intuitive Machines, on NASA+ starting no earlier than 11:30 a.m., approximately 60 minutes before touchdown.

Beginning at 11 a.m. the agency will share blog updates as landing milestones occur.

Following the Moon landing, NASA and Intuitive Machines will host a news conference from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston to discuss the mission, technology demonstrations, and science opportunities that lie ahead as lunar surface operations begin.

U.S. media interested in participating in person must request accreditation by 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, by contacting the NASA Johnson newsroom at 281-483-5111 or jsccommu@mail.nasa.gov.

A copy of NASA’s media accreditation policy is online. To ask questions via phone, all media must RSVP by 4 p.m. March 5 to the NASA Johnson Newsroom, and dial in at least 15 minutes before the briefing begins.

After landing, NASA and Intuitive Machines leaders will participate in the news conference:

Tim Crain, chief growth officer, Intuitive Machines

The IM-2 mission launched at 7:16 p.m. Feb. 26 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The lander is carrying NASA technology that will measure the potential presence of resources from lunar soil that could be extracted and used by future explorers to produce fuel or breathable oxygen.

In addition, a passive Laser Retroreflector Array on the top deck of the lander will bounce laser light back at any orbiting or incoming spacecraft to give future spacecraft a permanent reference point on the lunar surface.

Other technologies on this delivery will demonstrate a robust cellular network to help future astronauts communicate and deploy a propulsive drone that can hop across the lunar surface to navigate its challenging terrain.

NASA continues to work with multiple American companies to deliver technology and science to the lunar surface through the agency’s CLPS initiative.

This pool of companies may bid on contracts for end-to-end lunar delivery services, including payload integration and operations, launching from Earth, and landing on the surface of the Moon.

NASA’s CLPS contracts are indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contracts with a cumulative maximum value of $2.6 billion through 2028.

The agency awarded Intuitive Machines the contract to send NASA science investigations and technology demonstrations to the Moon using its American-designed and -manufactured lunar lander for approximately $62.5 million.

Through the Artemis campaign, commercial robotic deliveries will test technologies, perform science experiments, and demonstrate capabilities on and around the Moon to help NASA explore in advance of Artemis Generation astronaut missions to the lunar surface, and ultimately crewed missions to Mars.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has blown up to $650,000 in city funds in preparation for Wednesday's congressional hearing, according to an explosive new report.

The Democrat, 40, is reportedly bringing a dozen staff members with her to the hearing on sanctuary cities, which will cost taxpayers an additional $8,500.

The progressive mayor has also hired a legal 'team' - the Washington D.C. law firm Cahill Gordon & Reindel - which charges $950 an hour, according to the Boston Herald.

The total amount of taxpayer money Wu has splashed to prepare for her day in front of Congress has surpassed half a million dollars - as locals, who are footing the bill, called her ridiculous spending a 'scam.'

Wu showed up to the Sanctuary City House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday with a religious ash cross on her forehead - and she was accompanied by her one-month-old baby.

The Mayor's office told the Boston Herald: 'The prep sessions included staff from the Mayor’s Office, Law Department, Boston Police and other senior advisors and leaders from the Cabinet, as well as an external law firm.'

'The City retained Cahill for a rate of $950/hour and expects to pay the firm up to $650,000 for legal work related to the March 5 hearing, committee investigation, and production of related documents.'

Initially, her office said that the legal prep bill was one expense, but in an update, Wu's team said: 'Approximately 12 staff members are traveling with the Mayor to DC, and the estimated cost is around $8,500.'

Josh Kraft, Wu's mayoral opponent, said he appreciated her going to D.C. to support their city, but slammed her for the absurd amount of money she's spending on the hearing alone.

'Mayor Wu said she’s going to DC to defend the city, and I support this. My question is: do we need to spend $650,000 of taxpayer funds on a show trial hearing?' Kraft, 57, said on Tuesday in a post on X.

Her outrageous spending has similarly caused anger among Boston locals.

One person wrote online: 'Why does it cost that much to fly to DC, answer some questions, and fly home? Why are we paying this kind of money to simply go to DC and answer questions honestly?'

Another added: '$650k for legal fees? Dinner? Where the hell does she pull the $650k from?'

And a third said: 'It should come out of her pocket personally. We’re already paying for all of her illegals. Now we have to pay for her violating federal law too.' Another chimed in: 'She’s not paying for anything. The taxpayers of Boston are though.'

Others questioned if the insane price would benefit her in front of Congress.

One person said: 'Imagine us paying 650,000 to be embarrassed in front of the entire country.' A second added: 'It’s not like she can go and tell the truth or something. Why miss the opportunity to misuse the citizens money once again.'

Another person simply put: 'What a absolute scam.'

The law firm Wu chose told the outlet they were hired as 'outside counsel.' Edward O'Callaghen, a lead attorney at the firm's D.C. office will be seated behind Wu during the hearing which starts at 10am in the U.S. Capitol building.

Woke Boston Mayor's shocking words after knifeman was killed by off-duty cop while trying to stab two

By RACHEL BOWMAN FOR DAILYMAIL.COM

Published: 10:05 EST, 2 March 2025 | Updated: 14:44 EST, 2 March 2025

Boston's progressive Democrat mayor has been criticized for offering condolences to a knifeman shot dead by an off-duty police officer while trying to stab two.

Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu offered her condolences to the family of the unnamed attackergunned down at a Chick-Fil-A restaurant in the city Saturday.

Boston police said two people ran into the Chick-fil-A in Copley Square while being chased by a man with a knife who was attempting to stab them shortly before 5:30 p.m. ET, reported NBC 10.

An off-duty cop was inside the restaurant and identified himself to the attacker, then told the man to drop this knife before firing his weapon.

'The officer then instructed the man to drop the weapon, to which he did not comply,' Boston police Commissioner Michael Cox said.

'The officer then discharged his weapon to stop the threat and the armed man was struck. He was then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced [dead]. The officer was transported to a hospital for evaluation, but at this time, there are no other reported injuries.'

Critics have slammed Wu for immediately offering her sympathy to the family of the attacker - who has not been identified - during a press conference Saturday night.

'My condolences and all of our thoughts are with the family of the individual whose life has been lost,' she said.

Initial DOGE FindingsReveal $80 Million in Wasteful Spending at DOD

March 4, 2025 | By C. Todd Lopez, DOD

A quick review of some of the initial findings within the Defense Department by the Department of Government Efficiencyreveals some $80 million in funds wastedon programs that do not support DOD's core mission.

An aerial view of the Pentagon.

In a social media video posted yesterday evening, Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell read off a few of the initial findings from DOGE, which revealed expenditures many service members would be hard-pressed to connect to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's focus on lethality, meritocracy, accountability, standards and readiness.

"At the DOD, we've been working hand in hand with the DOGE team," Parnell said. "And as the secretary said, we welcome that process because that process will make us more lethal. And that means that our warfighters on the battlefield will be more successful."

Among the DOGE findings, Parnell highlighted $1.9 million for holistic diversity, equity and inclusion transformation and training; $6 million to the University of Montana to "strengthen American democracy by bridging divides"; $3.5 million by the Defense Human Resources Activity to support DEI groups; and $1.6 million to the University of Florida to study the "social and institutional detriments of vulnerability and resilience to climate hazards in [the] African Sahel."

Altogether, he said, thefull set of initial findingsof DOGE reveals about $80 million in wasteful spending that could be better spent on lethality and readiness.

On the day he was sworn in, Hegseth released a message to the force spelling out his three top priorities. Those include reviving the warrior ethos and restoring trust in the military; rebuilding the military by matching threats to capabilities; and reestablishing deterrence by defending the homeland.

Parnell said theDOGE team is just getting started rooting out department expendituresthat are not aligned with the secretary's top priorities.

"This stuff is not a core function of our military. This is not what we do. This is a distraction from our core mission," he said. "Today's actions are just the start; [there is] more to come this week. Again, we are working hand-in-glove with DOGE. So, stay tuned in the weeks ahead as we trim the fat, preserve the muscle, [and] make the DOD more mission-capable and more lethal."

(People will read that’s it, it is just the start)

Blue Ghost Begins Surface Operations, Captures Descent Video, Sunrise

March 4, 2025

Shortly after landing on the Moon March 2, Firefly Aerospace and NASA teams kicked off surface operations for the science and technology instruments on the company’s Blue Ghost lunar lander.

Firefly also captured the lunar sunrise and a video during descent and landing.

All NASA instruments onboard continue to be healthy and several payloads have already collected data, including:

The Electrodynamic Dust Shield (EDS) successfully lifted and removed lunar regolith, or dirt, using electrical forces on the glass and thermal radiator surfaces.

The EDS re-duster also demonstrated its ability to move regolith (lunar soil and rock), aiding dust management. While data analysis continues, the dust instrument has fulfilled most of its objectives.

These results confirm EDS as a promising solution for future lunar surface operations.

Shortly after landing, the Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE) was powered on and began conducting their first science operation and acquired and tracked Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals on the lunar surface for the first time ever — approximately 225,000 miles away from Earth.

The Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume-Surface Studies (SCALPSS) instrument captured images during the spacecraft’s lunar descent and touchdown on the lunar surface.

Although the results are still being analyzed, this data provided by SCALPSS could help shed insight into the effects that engine plumes have on the surface.

Blue Ghost’s Surface Access Arm deployed the Lunar PlanetVac (LPV), which was developed to efficiently collect and transfer lunar soil from the Moon to other science instruments or sample return containers without relying on gravity.

Since deployment, Lunar PlanetVac has begun sampling lunar regolith.

During the 14 days of surface operation, NASA payloads will continue collecting science and data on the Moon as part of the agency’s Artemis campaign. Continue to follow along for more CLPS updates nasa.gov/clps.

Transgender Americans weigh leaving U.S. over Trump’s policies. Some already have(cause: NGOs defunded) LA times of course.

(It’s working, thank you PDJT, no boo hoos for you)

People hold LGBTQ+ flags outside the Supreme Court. People hold LGBTQ+ flags outside the Supreme Court in December during oral argument on whether states can ban certain gender transition medical treatments for young people.

Transgender Americans fear a slate of Trump administration policies targeting gender-affirming medical care and U.S. passports that recognize their identities. Many are now making plans to flee the country, or have already done so.

They are saving money, getting travel documents in order, considering foreign jobs and even applying for asylum abroad. Alexia Nunez presumed “things were going to be pretty bad” for transgender people under President Trump, given his campaign rhetoric, but had decided to stick it out in the U.S. “as long as possible.”

Her breaking point came just days after Trump’s inauguration, she said, when Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the suspension of passport applications seeking a gender marker different from an applicant’s birth sex.

Alexia Nunez smiles in a recent selfie Alexia Nunez, in a recent selfie, fled the U.S. because of the Trump administration’s anti-transgender policies and filed an asylum claim in Canada. Nunez, a 46-year-old software engineer originally from San Diego, called the directive the “definition of discrimination against a marginalized community,” and a direct threat to her safety as a transgender woman.

Although her passport has reflected her female identity since 2016, it expires next year. Suddenly, she feared renewing it would leave her without a travel document that matched her identity and appearance, and without a means of fleeing the country if things in the U.S. grew increasingly hostile.

“I knew it was time to enact my emergency plan,” Nunez said. Transgender Americans and their families are reaching similar conclusions across the country amid numerous anti-transgender policies from the Trump administration.

They include directives to defund or even criminalize gender-affirming medical care, punish teachers who support gender nonconforming kids at school, ban transgender people from bathrooms and sports teams, and cast doubt not only on their legal documents but their very existence.

Trump issued an executive order on his first day in office declaring that the U.S. recognizes only “two sexes, male and female,” which are “not changeable.”

The order called the idea people can change genders a “false claim” that endangers women, and directed federal agencies to strip “gender ideology” from their regulations and policies. The Trump administration did not respond to a request for comment.

M.L. is a 16-year-old transgender high school student track athlete who fears threats to young athletes like her.

Al though many of Trump’s proposed policies are being challenged in court, the fear and panic they have evoked is already widespread. Both transgender adults and parents of transgender kids are comparing the risks of staying versus those of leaving.

X-ray Signal Points to Destroyed Planet, Chandra Finds

Mar 04, 2025

A planet may have been destroyed by a white dwarf at the center of a planetary nebula — the first time this has been seen.

As described in our latest press release, this would explain a mysterious X-ray signal that astronomers have detected from the Helix Nebula for over 40 years.

The Helix is a planetary nebula, a late-stage star like our Sun that has shed its outer layers leaving a small dim star at its center called a white dwarf.

This composite image contains X-rays from Chandra (magenta), optical light data from Hubble (orange, light blue), infrared data from ESO (gold, dark blue), and ultraviolet data from GALEX (purple) of the Helix Nebula.

Data from Chandra indicates that this white dwarf has destroyed a very closely orbiting planet.

An artist’s concept shows a planet (left) that has approached too close to a white dwarf (right) and is being torn apart by tidal forces from the star.

The white dwarf is in the center of a planetary nebula depicted by the blue gas in the background.

The planet is part of a planetary system, which includes one planet in the upper left and another in the lower right.

The besieged planet could have initially been a considerable distance from the white dwarf but then migrated inwards by interacting with the gravity of the other planets in the system.

Eventually debris from the planet will form a disk around the white dwarf and fall onto the star’s surface, creating the mysterious signal in X-rays that astronomers have detected for decades.

Dating back to 1980, X-ray missions, such as the Einstein Observatory and ROSAT telescope, have picked up an unusual reading from the center of the Helix Nebula.

They detected highly energetic X-rays coming from the white dwarf at the center of the Helix Nebula named WD 2226-210, located only 650 light-years from Earth.

White dwarfs like WD 2226-210 do not typically give off strong X-rays.

A new study featuring the data from Chandra and XMM-Newton may finally have settled the question of what is causing these X-rays from WD 2226-210: this X-ray signal could be the debris from a destroyed planet being pulled onto the white dwarf.

If confirmed, this would be the first case of a planet seen to be destroyed by the central star in a planetary nebula.

Observations by ROSAT, Chandra, and XMM-Newton between 1992 and 2002 show that the X-ray signal from the white dwarf has remained approximately constant in brightness during that time.

The data, however, suggest there may be a subtle, regular change in the X-ray signal every 2.9 hours, providing evidence for the remains of a planet exceptionally close to the white dwarf.

Previously scientists determined that a Neptune-sized planet is in a very close orbit around the white dwarf — completing one revolution in less than three days.

The researchers in this latest study conclude that there could have been a planet like Jupiter even closer to the star.

The besieged planet could have initially been a considerable distance from the white dwarf but then migrated inwards by interacting with the gravity of other planets in the system.

Once it approached close enough to the white dwarf the gravity of the star would have partially or completely torn the planet apart.

WD 2226-210 has some similarities in X-ray behavior to two other white dwarfs that are not inside planetary nebulas.

One is possibly pulling material away from a planet companion, but in a more sedate fashion without the planet being quickly destroyed.

The other white dwarf is likely dragging material from the vestiges of a planet onto its surface. These three white dwarfs may constitute a new class of variable, or changing, object.

They are calculating the financial costs of moving versus the mental, emotional and physical costs of staying. They are also eyeing asylum claims abroad and other potential paths to securing foreign visas, such as through work, schooling, lineage, real estate investments or other cash commitments.

Those who can afford it are hiring lawyers and relocation specialists. The one thing they are not considering, they said, is going back into the closet. “Right now I am in a prison within my own country.

Before I transitioned I was in a prison inside myself,” said K.D., a transgender man in Orange County who is considering fleeing. “I would rather be who I am without apology [than] hide for my own safety.” K.D. and others requested to be identified only by their initials due to harassment of transgender people and for fear of reprisal from the Trump administration.

The increased fear and interest in fleeing marks a stunning reversal for queer rights in the U.S., but also for the nation’s standing in the world as a relative haven for LGBTQ+ people. LGBTQ+ refugees have long fled to the U.S., not from it.

The process has never been easy, but people facing violence, arrest or even death in their home countries due to their LGBTQ+ identities have successfully claimed asylum on those grounds in the U.S. since the 1990s. A 2021 study by the Williams Institute at UCLA Law found that, between 2012 and 2017, LGBTQ+ people from 84 countries filed 3,899 asylum claims in the U.S. based specifically on their persecution for being queer.

President Biden had ramped up U.S. efforts to defend LGBTQ+ rights and protect queer asylum seekers and refugees. In contrast to Trump’s recent orders, Biden issued a memorandum in 2021 stating that the U.S. would “lead by the power of our example in the cause of advancing the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons around the world.”

The ground has clearly shifted…Long boo Hoo article…

Nate Silver’s FiveThirtyEight Is Being Scrapped in Disney Layoffs

Leigh Kimmins 03.05.25 9:44AM EST

FiveThirtyEight, the political analysis site created by stats guru Nate Silver, is shutting down, according to a report. Sources told the Wall Street Journal that some 200 staff layoffs are expected at Disney’s ABC News Group—which rebranded the site 538 and cut most of its staff two years ago—and Disney Entertainment Networks unit. The cuts will reportedly include the 15 or so employees remaining at the site, which Silver founded in 2008.

“Oh geez, I just saw the news about 538,” he wrote on X Wednesday. “My heart goes out to the people there. They were tremendously hard-working and produced a lot of extremely valuable data and insight for everyone who wants to understand politics better. They deserved much better.”

Silver left the famed politics, economics, and sports analysis website in 2023, taking his data model with him to his own site, Silver Bulletin, while ABC kept the brand name.

DeSantis celebrates SpaceX bringing Starship operations to Florida, calls for NASA HQ relocation

Updated Mar. 4, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis this week celebrated Elon Musk’s space exploration company SpaceX bringing Starship operations for Florida.

“SpaceX is expanding its Starship operations in Florida, bringing Starship production and launch capabilities to the Space Coast,” the company said on Monday.

“Congratulations to SpaceX on your recently announced plans to bring Starship operations to Florida,” DeSantis said.

“With leading space companies—now including SpaceX—investing in the Free State of Florida, NASA should scrap their expensive new HQ in D.C. and consider moving to Florida as well.”

The governor’s calls for relocation continue as support has mounted at the federal level for NASA’s headquarters moving to the Space Coast.

On the list backing such a move is Sen. Ashley Moody, along with Reps. Mike Haridopolos and Anna Paulina Luna – all Republicans from Florida.

“They have this massive building in Washington, DC, and like nobody goes to it, so why not just shutter it and move everybody down here?” the governor said in January.

“I think they’re planning on spending like a half a billion to build a new building up in D.C. that no one will ever go to either.”

“So hopefully, with the new administration coming in, they’ll see a great opportunity to just headquarter NASA here on the Space Coast of Florida.

I think that’d be very, very fitting,” he said.

NSSA Issues Official Position Paper Calling for Doubling the U.S. Space Force Budget

March 5, 2025 12:15 PM EST

The National Security Space Association (NSSA) has released its official position paper, "Double Down on the Space Force Budget," calling for Congress to double the U.S. Space Force budget to $60 billion over the FY 2026-2030 Future Years Defense Program (FYDP).

This investment is critical as China and Russia continue to advance counterspace weapons, cyber warfare capabilities, and anti-satellite (ASAT) systems, directly challenging U.S. national security and global stability.

"The establishment of the U.S. Space Force and U.S. Space Command was a groundbreaking step in securing U.S. leadership in space," said Steve Jacques, Executive Director of NSSA.

"We recognize the vision, innovation, and leadership demonstrated by President Trump, senior military officials, and the warfighter in building a service capable of meeting modern space challenges.

However, China's rapid military-civil fusion strategy and Russia's continued investment in space-based threats are eroding U.S. dominance.

We must act decisively to provide the funding, procurement agility, and operational flexibility necessary to ensure the United States of America remains the world's preeminent space power."

The NSSA paper warns that China has deployed hundreds of military satellites, developed hypersonic weapons, and expanded contested cislunar operations, while Russia has launched reconnaissance satellites targeting U.S. military assets and is reportedly developing a nuclear-armed ASAT weapon.

Without urgent action, the U.S. risks falling behind in space, jeopardizing both military and commercial operations.

To counter these threats, NSSA calls for a structured, stair-stepped increase in the Space Force budget to enhance missile warning and tracking, counterspace operations, intelligence and surveillance, secure satellite communications, and rapid launch capabilities.

However, funding alone is not enough—Congress must reform procurement processes to eliminate inefficiencies, streamline acquisitions, and enable rapid deployment of critical capabilities.

Additionally, NSSA recommends that Congress establish mission-focused budget line items and provide greater flexibility in the execution of appropriations to ensure resources can be quickly realigned to meet emerging threats.

The Space Force must also expand partnerships with the commercial space sector to leverage innovation while ensuring that warfighter-driven requirements remain central to all investment decisions.

To sustain U.S. space superiority, NSSA urges Congress and the Executive Branch to integrate these recommendations into the FY 2026 President's Budget Request, secure bipartisan support for long-term Space Force investment, and commit to sustained growth through the FYDP planning process.

A $20 Billion Slush Fund—Paid by You to Progressive NGOs.

The Department of Justice is investigating the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, a $27 billion program that was part of Joe Biden’s $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act. Created in the spring of 2023, and managed by the Environmental Protection Agency, the fund was supposed to be a “first-of-its-kind” program to address the climate crisis while revitalizing communities that it considered “historically left behind.”

But it appears little of the $27 billion revitalized anything—except the coffers of a range of environmental nonprofits associated with former Obama and Biden administration officials.

“The Biden administration used so-called ‘climate equity’ to justify handouts of billions of dollars to their far-left friends,” Lee Zeldin, the Trump administration’s new EPA administrator, told The Free Press. “It is my utmost priority to get a handle on every dollar that went out the door in this scheme and once again restore oversight and accountability over these funds. This rush job operation is riddled with conflicts of interest and corruption.”

Read NPR's annotated fact check of President Trump's address to Congress

MARCH 4, 202511:06 PM ET

DEFUND NPR(ALL WERE REPORTERS OR “CORESPONDENTS.LONG BS FROM DS MEDIAMUCH THEN THESE)

President Trump delivered an address to a joint session of Congress in the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday night, six weeks into his second term. Since his inauguration, he has worked briskly to try to radically reshape the government and has signed dozens of executive orders, many upending policies created by former President Joe Biden. Trump took stock of what he's done so far and laid out his vision for the economy, immigration and foreign affairs.

Reporters from across NPR's newsroom fact-checked the address and offered context as the speech unfolded.

ImmigrationUnlawful border crossings

TRUMP: "Within hours of taking the oath of office, I declared a national emergency on our southern border, and I deployed the U.S. military and border patrol to repel the invasion of our country, and what a job they've done. As a result, illegal border crossings last month were by far the lowest ever recorded ever. They heard my words and they chose not to come."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents had about 30,000 encounters with migrants attempting to cross the U.S. borders illegally in January, the agency reported. The agency has not reported the numbers for February, however Reuters reported last week that the administration is on track to report about 8,500 arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border for February. This could be the lowest number of crossings since Homeland Security started reporting the data in 2000.

CBP has been recording apprehensions since 1925. In 1935, there were only 11,000 apprehensions nationwide for the full year. During President Biden's administration, unlawful crossings nationwide hit an all-time high in 2022 — CBP reported more than 2.2 million encounters. However, Biden's last full month in office, December 2024, saw about 48,000 encounters.

— Sergio Martínez-Beltrán, Immigration Correspondent

Deportations

“I have sent Congress a detailed funding request laying out exactly how we will eliminate these threats to protect our Homeland, and complete the largest deportation operation in American history, larger even than current record holder Dwight D. Eisenhower—a moderate man but someone who believed very strongly in borders.

In his remarks, Trump referenced 1954's "Operation Wetback" — a racist term used to refer to migrants who crossed the Rio Grande. Government estimates of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's effort showed more than a million Mexican immigrants and some U.S. citizens were rounded up.

Since then, other presidents have carried out large deportation actions throughout their terms. Former President Barack Obama's administration, for example, deported over 3 million people. But Trump's second administration's own efforts facelong-standing logistical and capacity challenges.

— Ximena Bustillo, DHS and Immigration Policy Reporter

Biden allowing migrants into the U.S.

TRUMP: "In comparison, under Joe Biden, the worst president in American history, there were hundreds of thousands of illegal crossings a month, and virtually all of them, including murderers, drug dealers, gang members and people from mental institutions and insane asylums were released into our country. Who would want to do that?"

The nonpartisan Migration Policy Instituteestimates that from 2021 to 2024, the Biden administration allowed more than 5.8 million immigrants into the U.S. They were temporarily allowed into the country through multiple parole and sponsorship programs, many of which have been dramatically curbed or ended by the Trump administration. Migrants who participated in these programs were vetted before being allowed into the country.

— Sergio Martínez-Beltrán, Immigration Correspondent

Immigrants and the workforce

TRUMP: "Entire towns like Aurora, Colorado and Springfield, Ohio buckled under the weight of the migrant occupation and corruption like nobody has ever seen before."

Increased immigration — both legal and illegal — has helped to grow the labor force in recent years. It has allowed employers to keep adding jobs at a rapid clip without putting much upward pressure on prices, even as millions of baby boomers are retiring. From January 2024 to January 2025, for example, the foreign-born workforce grew by 2.1 million people while the larger native-born workforce added just 1.3 million.

Immigration has slowed considerably in recent months, however. Foreign-born workers do not appear to be displacing the native-born workforce. The share of working-age men who were in the workforce in January was 89.4% — higher than all but one month during the first Trump administration.

Striking images tell the story of space weather

05/03/2025

A compelling collection of images that illustrates humanity’s efforts to mitigate the far-reaching impacts of violent solar outbursts has been unveiled in London.

The exhibition – created by photographer and storyteller Max Alexander – features photos of instruments that will be carried by ESA’s Vigil mission, which is expected to transform Europe’s ability to forecast space weather following its launch in 2031.

About 150 million km separate Earth from its closest star but the planet is still well within the vast region of space, known as the heliosphere, that is dominated by the huge amounts energetic material and intense radiation emitted by the Sun.

Solar flares, coronal mass ejections, solar wind and geomagnetic storms can cause changes to the space environment, influencing Earth’s atmosphere and magnetic field.

Most of the time these phenomena are harmless – and occasionally trigger stunning displays of aurora borealis – but extreme events have the potential to disrupt infrastructure on Earth and in space, including satellite telecommunications, global positioning systems, and power grids.

Max Alexander says, “The Sun gives us life, but it can also expose the vulnerabilities of the increasingly complex, intertwined systems on which we rely.

With the perspectives of leading experts, my aim is to highlight this duality as we build the resilience needed to coexist with the power of our closest star.”

Given the potential economic consequences of extreme solar activity, ESA is expanding Europe’s capability to forecast space weather, as demonstrated by the development of Vigil.

Matthew West, Vigil Mission Scientist at ESA, explains, “From its unique vantage point in deep space, Vigil will detect what happens on the Sun’s surface days before it rotates into view from Earth and satellites on the Sun-Earth line.

“As the first mission to permanently observe the Sun and Earth from the side, its instruments can detect how space weather and the causes of geomagnetic storms move from the Sun towards our planet.

This greatly improves our understanding and provides a much more precise and actionable forecast.”

Airbus UK is the prime contractor for the spacecraft and several of its instruments are being developed under the leadership of British institutes, including its magnetometer and its plasma analyser, both of which are featured in the photography collection.

Vigil will greatly enhance ESA’s existing space weather network, managed from its mission control centre in Germany, which draws on observations from multiple sources to provide actionable information on solar activity.

Giuseppe Mandorlo, Vigil Project Manager at ESA, says, “The recent Lloyds of London report on economic impacts due to a major solar event estimated losses of up to $2.4 trillion over 5 years, which highlights the scale and long-lasting effects of such an event.

“The forecasting and ‘nowcasting’ space weather services that Vigil will enable will be essential if we are to mitigate the impacts to our critical services and daily life.

Vigil is an investment in protecting our infrastructure and people.”

Alexander concludes, “Solar storms have struck our planet before, and we know they will again – it is just a matter of when.

This exhibition tells the story of how humanity is using its ingenuity and knowledge to develop the tools protect itself from such an event.”

‘Life in the Sun’s Atmosphere: from Disruption to Resilience’ is on show in London at Lloyd’s, the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace, from 3 to 14 March 2025.

The Catholic League, a conservative religious group, is demanding that Mr. Edwards dismiss the two, Amanda Marcotte of the Pandagon blog site and Melissa McEwan, who writes on her blog, Shakespeare’s Sister, for expressing anti-Catholic opinions.

Mr. Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, is among the leading Democratic presidential candidates.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, said in a statement on Tuesday, “John Edwards is a decent man who has had his campaign tarnished by two anti-Catholic vulgar trash-talking bigots.”

Mr. Edwards’s spokeswoman, Jennifer Palmieri, said Tuesday night that the campaign was weighing the fate of the two bloggers.

The two women brought to the Edwards campaign long cyber trails in the incendiary language of the blogosphere. Other campaigns are likely to face similar controversies as they try to court voters using the latest techniques of online communication.

Ms. Marcotte wrote in December that the Roman Catholic Church’s opposition to the use of contraception forced women “to bear more tithing Catholics.” In another posting last year, she used vulgar language to describe the church doctrine of the virgin birth of Jesus.

She has also written sarcastically about the news media coverage of the three Duke lacrosse players accused of sexual assault, saying: “Can’t a few white boys sexually assault a black woman anymore without people getting all wound up about it? So unfair.”

Ms. Marcotte joined the Edwards campaign at the end of January in the new post of blogmaster. She has lived in Austin, Tex., for the past 11 years and wrote on her blog that she was planning to move to Chapel Hill, N.C., in February to work full-time on the campaign.

Ms. McEwan referred in her blog to President Bush’s “wingnut Christofascist base” and repeatedly used profanity in demanding that religious conservatives stop meddling with women’s reproductive and sexual rights. Multiple postings use explicit and inflammatory language on a variety of issues.

Ms. McEwan signed on with Mr. Edwards at the end of January with the title of Netroots coordinator, for campaign activities on the Web.

Correction: February 10, 2007

An article on Wednesday about demands by the Catholic League that the John Edwards presidential campaign fire two women who wrote anti-Catholic opinions on their personal blogs misstated the Catholic doctrine that one blogger described using vulgar language. It was the virgin birth of Jesus, not the Immaculate Conception.

Men with higher-quality sperm live longer, study finds

Research suggests difference in life expectancy between men with highest and lowest quality is nearly three years

Ian Sample Science editor

Tue 4 Mar 2025 19.05 EST

(Who didn’t know this?) partial article

Sperm may be the canaries in the coalmine for male health, according to research that reveals men with higher-quality semen live longer.

Danish scientists analysed samples from nearly 80,000 men and found that those who produced more than 120 million swimming sperm per ejaculate lived two to three years longer than those who produced fewer than 5 million.

The men with the highest-quality sperm lived to 80.3 years old on average, compared with 77.6 for those with the poorest-quality sperm, the researchers report in Human Reproduction.

“It really seems to be that the better the semen quality, the longer the survival,” said Dr Lærke Priskorn, an epidemiologist at Copenhagen university hospital, who led the study with Dr Niels Jørgensen, an andrologist at the hospital.

The finding implies that semen quality reflects a man’s broader health and how likely he is to succumb to medical conditions later in life. On every measure of sperm quality the researchers checked, poorer quality was linked to earlier death.

The men in the study had their semen analysed between 1965 and 2015 after they reported problems starting a family with their partner. The samples were assessed for semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm shape, and the proportion of motile, or swimming, sperm. While some men produced no sperm, others had very good semen quality.

Using national registers, the researchers tracked the men’s health for up to 50 years after their sperm tests. There were 8,600 deaths in the follow-up period, amounting to 11% of the group. Nearly 60,000 of the men provided semen samples between 1987 and 2015 and their records held more information, such as education level and any medical conditions diagnosed in the 10 years prior to the semen analysis.

The link between poor semen quality and an earlier death was not explained by any diseases diagnosed in the decade before testing, nor by the men’s education level, which often reflects socioeconomic status and to some extent lifestyle factors such as smoking, diet or exercise.

Priskorn said that while the data did not shed light on the potential biological mechanisms, conditions in the womb may be important. In this scenario, factors that affect the baby’s development would harm both their sperm and wider health in later life.

The researchers now want to find out which diseases are more common in men with poor semen quality. If particular conditions are identified, doctors could ultimately advise men on preventive action should sperm analysis show they are at risk.

In an accompanying editorial, Prof John Aitken, a reproductive biologist at the University of Newcastle in Australia, said: “If spermatozoa really are the canaries in the coalmine of male health, the obvious question to ask is why.”

Possible drivers are genetic defects on the sex chromosomes, an impaired immune system, coexisting problems such as heart disease, lifestyle factors, and pollutants. Aitken suspects a process called oxidative stress, where highly reactive molecules called free radicals harm semen quality and body tissues and accelerate ageing….

Maserati MC20 Sets Autonomous Speed Record at Kennedy Space Center

March 5, 2025

Maserati has made history in autonomous driving, as the MC20 Coupe set a new world speed record without a human behind the wheel.

Reaching an impressive 197 mph at the Kennedy Space Center’s Space Florida Launch and Landing Facility (LLF), the AI-driven supercar surpassed the previous record of 192 mph, proving that autonomous racing technology is advancing faster than ever.

This groundbreaking achievement was a collaborative effort between the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC), Politecnico di Milano, and Maserati, with the record run taking place during the 1000 Miglia Experience Florida.

By utilizing the same runway that once supported NASA’s Space Shuttle landings, the test provided a real-world proving ground for high-speed autonomous mobility.

The AI Technology Behind the Record

The MC20’s record-setting performance was made possible through advanced artificial intelligence and robotics software, developed by PoliMOVE-MSU, a research team from Politecnico di Milano’s Artificial Intelligence Driving Autonomous (AIDA) division.

This effort wasn’t just about raw speed—it was a critical step toward applying autonomous racing technology to streetcars.

The AI system was engineered to handle extreme velocities with precision, stability, and real-time decision-making, demonstrating how machine learning and self-driving algorithms can adapt to high-performance applications.

The PoliMOVE-MSU system integrates multiple sensor-based technologies, machine learning algorithms, and advanced real-time adjustments, ensuring the vehicle maintains stability while responding dynamically to road conditions.

This level of development brings autonomous mobility closer to widespread adoption in the automotive industry.

The Maserati MC20: A Supercar Pushing Boundaries

Maserati’s MC20 was an ideal choice for this record-breaking run, blending cutting-edge performance with state-of-the-art AI capabilities.

The mid-engine supercar is powered by a twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 engine, delivering 621 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque.

Designed with aerospace-inspired aerodynamics, the MC20 is built for high-speed stability and precision handling, making it a perfect platform for autonomous experimentation.

This project not only showcased the MC20’s engineering excellence but also demonstrated how AI-driven control systems can push modern supercars to their limits.

With active aerodynamics, an advanced carbon-fiber monocoque, and a near-perfect weight distribution, the MC20 provided a highly optimized foundation for AI-driven performance testing.

Bridging Autonomous Racing and Everyday Mobility

The Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) has been at the forefront of high-speed autonomous racing, pushing the boundaries of self-driving vehicle capabilities.

By applying their expertise to a production-based supercar, this project marked an important step in translating racing-derived AI innovations to real-world applications.

Paul Mitchell, CEO of the Indy Autonomous Challenge, highlighted the broader significance of this achievement, stating:

“This achievement is about more than just speed — it’s about pushing AI-driven software and robotics hardware to their absolute limits. By doing so with a streetcar, we’re helping advance high-speed autonomous mobility for the real world.”

By proving that AI can handle extreme speeds with precision, this test further supports the potential for self-driving systems in both motorsports and commercial applications.

The advancements demonstrated in the MC20’s autonomous run could one day influence future road-going models, making self-driving technology more efficient, responsive, and adaptable to high-performance scenarios.

The Future of AI in High-Performance Vehicles

While many autonomous vehicle discussions focus on urban mobility and highway driving, this record-breaking test shifts the focus to high-speed capabilities and motorsport-inspired AI applications.

The ability of a machine to adapt to real-time speed changes, aerodynamic fluctuations, and track conditions at nearly 200 mph suggests that autonomous driving is evolving beyond controlled environments.

As automotive brands explore autonomy in performance cars, collaborations between racing engineers, AI specialists, and automakers will continue to drive innovation.

This test underscores that the fusion of racing technology and AI-driven mobility is no longer a distant concept—it’s already reshaping the industry.

The "chest feeder" scratching for power again…

Michigan Democrats are instead encouraging Buttigieg to eye a gubernatorial run to replace Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who is term limited.

Buttigieg, however, has allegedly ruled out succeeding Whitmer but is “very seriously focused” on a potential Senate run, a source told Detroit News last month.

The dad-of-two, who moved to Traverse City, Michigan in 2022, to be closer to his husband’s family, is still undecided about a Senate run in the crucial battleground state, five people familiar with the matter told Politico. Republicans almost flipped the seat last cycle.

The Democrat is yet to decide what responsibility he wants, per reports.

Two sources told Politico that the former presidential candidate isn’t relishing the idea of life in a GOP-controlled Congress. Senate Majority Leader John Thune would be in control over how often Buttigieg needed to make the 760-mile journey to Washington DC.

EMERGENCY DOCKET

Supreme Court denies Trump request to block $2 billion foreign-aid paymentBy Amy Howe

on Mar 5, 2025 at 9:45 am1/2

A divided Supreme Court on Wednesday turned down a request by the Trump administration to lift an order by a federal judge in Washington, D.C., that had directed the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development to pay nearly $2 billion in foreign-aid reimbursements for work that has already been done.

In a brief unsigned opinion, the court noted that the Feb. 26 deadline for the government to make the payments had already passed. It instructed U.S. District Judge Amir Ali to “clarify what obligations the Government must fulfill to ensure compliance” with the temporary restraining order that Ali has entered in the case, paying attention to how feasible it is for the government to comply with those timelines.

Ali is expected to hold a hearing on the aid groups’ motion for a preliminary injunction – which, if granted, would suspend the freeze on foreign-assistance funding going forward – on Thursday, March 6. This means that the dispute could return to the Supreme Court as an emergency appeal again soon.

Four of the court’s conservative justices would have granted the government’s request to put the order on hold. Justice Samuel Alito, in a dissenting opinion joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh, described himself as “stunned” by the ruling, calling it “a most unfortunate misstep that rewards an act of judicial hubris and imposes a $2 billion penalty on American taxpayers.”

The brief unsigned order came six days after Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily paused Ali’s Feb. 25 order, which had ordered the agencies to pay contractors and grant recipients by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 26 for work that had already been done before he issued a Feb. 13 temporary restraining order that prohibited the State Department and USAID from suspending foreign-aid payments.

In an executive order last month, President Donald Trump ordered a halt to the distribution of foreign-aid funds so that federal agencies can ensure that those funds are only disbursed in ways that are “fully aligned with” Trump’s foreign policy. Following that order, Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered a freeze on all foreign-aid programs funded by the State Department and the USAID.

Several groups that receive or have members that receive foreign-aid funds challenged the pause in federal court in Washington, D.C. They argued that the funding freeze violated both the federal law governing administrative agencies and the Constitution.

Acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris came to the Supreme Court on Wednesday night, asking the justices to quickly put Ali’s Feb. 25 order on hold before the deadline for the State Department and USAID to make the payments and then ultimately to lift it. She argued that Ali’s order infringed on the executive branch’s power to make decisions about foreign aid and “stands on the brink of placing USAID into a court-run receivership.” And although she agreed that the government “is committed to paying legitimate claims for work that was properly completed,” the government could not “pay arbitrarily determined demands on an arbitrary timeline of” Ali’s choosing.

A few hours later, Roberts – who handles emergency appeals from Washington, D.C. – granted Harris’s request to temporarily pause Ali’s order before the midnight deadline.

Foreign-aid recipients on Friday urged the Supreme Court to quickly lift the Roberts order. In a 21-page brief, they told the justices that “the government’s actions bring their very existence—and the existence of fellow foreign-aid partners—to the brink.” Their work, they said, “advances U.S. interests abroad and improves—and, in many cases, literally saves—the lives of millions of people across the globe.”

‼️🔔News: DOJ Blocks Seth Rich Records Release Set for March 10—Cites Ongoing Investigation After 9 Years

On March 3, 2025, the Department of Justice announced that Seth Rich’s records, set for release on March 10, will remain sealed, citing an “ongoing investigation” into his 2016 murder—nine years after the case went cold.

Rich, a 27-year-old DNC staffer, was shot twice in the back on July 10, 2016, in Washington, D.C.’s Bloomingdale neighborhood, in what police called a botched robbery, though his valuables were untouched.

Conspiracy theories, fueled by WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange, suggest Rich leaked DNC emails.

The DOJ’s excuse, FOIA Exemption 7, claims releasing the records could interfere with law enforcement proceedings, but after nine years with no arrests, this smells like a cover-up.

Attorney Ty Clevenger’s 2017 FOIA fight faced prior DOJ stonewalling—like demanding a death certificate for a murder case.

Days after AG Pam Bondi’s February 27 Epstein files push and FBI NY Chief James Dennehy’s resignation for withholding, this move fuels suspicion: is the DOJ hiding sensitive info or dodging accountability? #SethRichCoverUp #DOJSecrecy

The foreign-aid recipients emphasized that, as a general rule, temporary restraining orders like the one Ali issued on Feb. 13 are not appealable. But the government has not even asked the Supreme Court to lift the TRO, they observed. Instead, it has asked the justices to lift Ali’s Feb. 25 order directing the government to comply with the TRO and pay for work that had already been completed – something that is even less amenable to an appeal than a TRO. Moreover, they noted, because the government has not appealed the temporary restraining order, it would still have to comply with it even if the court were to lift the Feb. 25 order.

In a one-paragraph order on Wednesday, the court emphasized that Harris’s request to lift the Feb. 25 order “does not challenge the Government’s obligation to follow” the Feb. 13 temporary restraining order.

Alito’s dissent acknowledged Ali’s “frustration with the Government,” and that the aid groups had broached “serious concerns about nonpayment for completed work.” But the court’s denial of the Trump administration’s request to lift Ali’s Feb. 25 order, he contended, “is, quite simply, too extreme a response.=A federal court,” he suggested, “has many tools to address a party’s supposed nonfeasance. Self-aggrandizement of its jurisdiction is not one of them.”

James Webb Spots Mysterious Object Crossing Space Between Stars

Mar 4, 7:30 PM EST

NASA's groundbreaking James Webb Space Telescope has spotted a mysterious object that's freely floating through interstellar space.

According to NASA, the "planetary-mass" object, dubbed SIMP 0136, is roughly 13 times the mass of Jupiter, and is located just 20 light-years from Earth.

It's also spinning at a breakneck speed, completing a full rotation every 2.4 hours.

Thanks to the JWST's detailed infrared light observations, an international team of researchers detected signs of "complex atmospheric features," including possible cloud layers and temperature shifts in the object's atmosphere, as detailed in a study they published in the journal The Astrophysical Journal Letters.

It's a fascinating glimpse at an exceedingly rare object.

The researchers suggest in their paper that objects like SIMP 0136 could much in common with cloud giants in the solar system, like Jupiter and Saturn, which "also have multiple cloud layers and high-altitude hot spots" (except that it's floating through space without a star, that is.)

Astronomers also aren't ruling out the possibility that it's a brown dwarf, an object that's between a planet and a star.

The latest research builds on existing observations by NASA's Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes.

"We already knew that it varies in brightness, and we were confident that there are patchy cloud layers that rotate in and out of view and evolve over time," said lead author and Boston University doctoral student Allison McCarthy in a NASA statement.

"We also thought there could be temperature variations, chemical reactions, and possibly some effects of auroral activity affecting the brightness, but we weren’t sure."

James Webb's Near-Infrared Spectrograph allowed scientists to observe a much wider spectrum of infrared light, leading to fascinating new insights into the lonely object.

"Until now, we only had a little slice of the near-infrared spectrum from Hubble, and a few brightness measurements from Spitzer," said principal investigator and Trinity College Dublin assistant professor Johanna Vos in the statement.

The researchers ran hundreds of detailed light curves against atmospheric models to get a better sense of what SIMP 0136's atmosphere might look like.

They found evidence for patchy clouds and bright "hot spots," possibly related to auroras, far above the clouds.

"Imagine watching Earth from far away," Boston University scientist and coauthor Philip Muirhead said in a statement.

"If you were to look at each color separately, you would see different patterns that tell you something about its surface and atmosphere, even if you couldn’t make out the individual features."

"Blue would increase as oceans rotate into view," he added. "Changes in brown and green would tell you something about soil and vegetation."

Other light curves observed by the JWST suggest the existence of pockets of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide — but plenty of questions remain.

"We haven’t really figured out the chemistry part of the puzzle yet," Vos said. "But these results are really exciting because they are showing us that the abundances of molecules like methane and carbon dioxide could change from place to place and over time."

"If we are looking at an exoplanet and can get only one measurement, we need to consider that it might not be representative of the entire planet," she added.

Democratic Party’s Future Laid Bare In Five-Minutes…

We all know the Democratic Party’s brand is as toxic as Bud Light’s. The party is committing a public suicide, staking out every worst position on the issues Americans care about. Sex changes for kids are good; endless wars are even better; bloated bureaucracies wasting tax dollars are not just excellent, they are essential.

The party now has a choice; either continue the self-immolation or find smarter, fresher voices to put out the political fires and move forward with a more positive message that can actually appeal to the voters who shifted toward Trump in the last election.

And I’m not talking about a voice like Chris Murphy, whom The New York Times blessed in a recent profile. Or Jasmine Crockett. Or an oldie but goodie, Andrew Cuomo. I’m talking about someone like Stephen A. Smith.

Democrats are either — literally — scripted bots parroting propaganda written by Rosario Dawson’s ex-boyfriend, or they are going full Crockett Rocket and wishing for the demise of America.

SC COMPROMISED - CABAL PUPPET

"I Am Stunned" - SCOTUS Dissenters Rage As 'Liberals' Unfreeze $2BN USAID Foreign-Aid Payments

In a 5-4 vote, The US Supreme Court refused to bolster President Donald Trump’s foreign-aid freeze, reinstating a lower court order that requires the quick disbursement of as much as $2 billion owed to contractors for already completed work.

Over four dissents, the justices rejected Trump’s request to toss out the trial court order, which affects money owed by the US Agency for International Development and State Department.

The dissent by Justices Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh was extremely strongly worded:

Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars?

The answer to that question should be an emphatic “No,” but a majority of this Court apparently thinks otherwise.

I am stunned.

There’s something about Tayos Cave that doesn’t add up. The story goes thatdeep within this underground labyrinth in Ecuador, hidden behind twisting tunnels and chambers, there exists a metal library…books forged from unknown alloys, covered in symbols that don’t match any known writing system.Explorer Juan Moricz claimed to have seen it in 1969, describing what could be anancient archive of lost knowledge, possibly from a civilization predating everything we’ve been told about human history.Photos were taken, but the moment this discovery gained attention, everything changed.

The Ecuadorian government and the Vatican stepped in, and suddenly, access was restricted, and the narrative was rewritten…official reports now state that “nothing unusual was found.”Strange, considering even Neil Armstrong…yes, that Neil Armstrong…personally traveled there in 1976 to see it for himself. Why would one of the most famous men in history take interest in an empty cave?

If nothing was there, why the quick shutdown, the Vatican involvement, the suppression of follow-up expeditions? If the accounts of explorers like Moricz and Father Crespi are true, Tayos Cave could be proof of a lost civilization with knowledge far beyond what we attribute to ancient cultures. Or worse…it could be evidence of something non-human, something we were never supposed to find. And if that’s the case, it wouldn’t be the first time authorities have stepped in to erase inconvenient discoveries. Look at Peru shutting down the Nazca mummy debate…a finding that, if verified, could rewrite everything we know about the past.Every time history gets too close to revealing something truly paradigm-shifting, the same pattern emerges: denial, control, and silence. So, what exactly is hidden in Tayos Cave, and why are we not allowed to ask?

SpaceX plans major expansion on Florida’s Space Coast

Posted: Mar 5, 2025 / 11:17 AM EST

Updated: Mar 5, 2025 / 11:17 AM EST

Aerospace company SpaceX is bringing its Starship operations to Florida’s Space Coast.

SpaceX will erect the 390-foot tall “Gigabay” facility on the grounds of Kennedy Space Center, according to a report from NBC affiliate WESH.

Approximately 600 people will work to construct Starships, Philip Metzger, the director of the Stephen W. Hawking Center for Microgravity and Education at the University of Central Florida, said.

Building more rockets brings the potential for more launches.

“I think it’s crazy exciting,” Metzger told WESH. “Right now, we’re getting about one or even two launches per week. But the goal for SpaceX is to do about 10 launches per day.”

Metzger said that in addition to creating hundreds of manufacturing jobs, “there’s going to be a multiplier effect supporting that manufacturing, the supply chain, and the local economy.”

In a post on X, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis congratulated SpaceX on its plans to bring operations to Florida, adding that NASA should consider doing the same.

However, some Central Florida researchers and conservationists are concerned with potential impacts on the environment.

“Extensive environmental analysis must be done so the lagoon and infrastructure are protected,” research scientist Ken Kremer told WESH.

“SpaceX should pay for all improvements. The FAA should not be bullied by Musk.”

Construction on the Gigabay is set to begin next month, according to documents from the Federal Aviation Administration obtained by WESH.

Pending environmental impact reviews, SpaceX is planning its first Florida Starship launch for late 2025.

European Union spent more on Russian fossil fuels than Ukraine aid in 2024

The Kremlin has exported nearly $1T in fossil fuels since the beginning of the war on Ukraine

Despite a raft of sanctions and tough talk against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Europe could not seem to kick its dependence on Russian fuel last year.

The European Union (EU) spent $23 billion on Russian oil and gas in the third year of the war on Ukraine, more than the $19.6 billion in financial aid it offered to the war-ravaged nation last year, according to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

Russia’s stronghold over non-EU markets also increased – China purchased $82 billion in Russian fuel, India bought $51 billion and Turkey bought $36 billion.

Russia earned $254 billion from fossil fuel exports last year, a 3% drop over the previous year.

39-year-old Canadian-born Amir Hatem Mahdy Ali, the first Muslim and Arab DC judge, clerked on the Supreme Court of Canada and later led a radical leftwing group that called for defunding the police.

In the lame-duck session after Democrats lost the White House and Senate on November 5, 2024, Senate Democrats confirmed Ali on November 20 with a vote of 50-49.

U.S. District Judge Amir Ali

Ali also raised concerns about an order by Secretary of State Marco Rubio — issued five days after the restraining order took effect — pausing $15.9 billion in foreign assistance grants.

“That, again, is the very action that was held to be likely arbitrary and capricious,” Ali said.

Earlier this month, Ali — an appointee of President Joe Biden — ordered an end to the blanket freeze after grant recipients and foreign assistance organizations warned of catastrophic consequences. Ali said the State Department’s freeze — and its execution by Peter Marocco, a Trump appointee who oversees day-to-day operations at USAID — likely violated the law.

The judge ordered the State Department to pay all aid contractors who completed work before his order by midnight Wednesday. He also demanded that the government file with the court “any directive or guidance” issued about his order or about the suspension or termination of aid agreements.

“I want those documents by noon tomorrow,” the judge said.

The judge also has the power to order Rubio or other officials to appear in his courtroom or hold them in contempt of court. Ali stopped short of any such move Tuesday, but he reiterated that both sides must provide him by Wednesday with the names of officials with relevant knowledge of any ongoing disputes about compliance with the court’s order. Within hours of Ali’s ruling, the Justice Department appealed his order to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ali’s ruling is yet another clash between the fledgling Trump administration and the federal courts, which have slowed or halted more than a dozen key policy initiatives President Donald Trump has attempted to launch via executive order.

Biden Regime and John Podesta Gave BILLIONS to Environmental Charity Led by Democrats that Was Founded Only 5 Months Earlier and Received $7 Billion

More lawlessness by thee Biden Regime exposed–

Former Vice President Kamala Harris handed over a taxpayer-funded government check for $7 billion to Climate United Fund in April 2024.

Climate United Fund, a non-profit organization, had only been incorporated in Delaware since November 30, 2023, just five months earlier.

The Biden administration funneled at least $20 billion dollars into environmental groups, most of which had only recently been founded, The Post has discovered.

The Post added that the Climate United Fund then announced “the historic investment” in a press release, noting the group’s work “delivers benefits like cleaner air…and increased energy security.”’

The $7 billion award was given to Climate United Fund by John Podesta and the EPA.

Influence Watch has more on Climate United Fund and their Democrat officers.

The Climate United Fund was formed in 2024 when investment firm Calvert Impact Capital decided to partner with Community Preservation Corporation and Self-Help to create Climate United. 5

Beth Bafford is the chief executive officer of Climate United. 6 She is also the vice president of strategy for Calvert Impact Capital, the lead member of Climate United. Stafford previously worked at McKinsey and Company, as a special assistant in the Obama administration’s Office of Management and Budget, and as a regional field director for Obama for America. 7

Climate United’s board of directors oversees the consortium’s strategy and implementation of the Biden administration’s National Clean Investment Fund awards. 8 Climate United’s board members include former Democratic Party of California chairman and California State Treasurer Phil Angelides, 9 8 Obama administration Secretary of the Department of Transportation Anthony Foxx, United Farm Workers of America co-founder Dolores Huerta, Patrice Willoughby of the Congressional Black Caucus, 10 and others with ties to the First People’s Fund, CPC, Opportunity Finance Network, and NAACP. 4

The solar system is teeming with 1 million 'alien invaders' from Alpha Centauri

March 5, 2025

One million alien visitors from another star system could already be lurking in the solar system.

We aren't talking about "little green men" here, however — more "little (and not so little) gray rocks," asteroids from the triple star system Alpha Centauri. Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to our own, lying around 4.3 light-years away.

New research has indicated that, if Alpha Centauri ejects as much material as the solar system, then as many as one million space rocks larger than 328 feet (100 meters) wide could be lurking in the Oort Cloud, a band of icy material at the edge of our solar system.

Some of these alien visitors could even make their way into the inner solar system.

The scientists behind the new finding suggest that the amount of material entering the solar system from Alpha Centauri will increase over the next 28,000 years as the neighboring star system makes its closest approach to our own.

"We were a little surprised to find that the amount of material from Alpha Centauri was not completely negligible," team member and University of Western Ontario researcher Paul Wiegert told Space.com.

"Space is 'big,' and so it would not have been a surprise to find that perhaps no material from Alpha Centauri could reach us at all.

The fact that it could be present at levels that we could detect is a pleasant surprise," he added. "These objects really could be anywhere in the solar system at any given time."

Alpha Centauri pelts the solar system like a wet dog

Wiegert and his colleague, University of Western Ontario Ph.D. student Cole Gregg, were inspired to conduct a study of these alien invaders by the first known interstellar visitors.

These were the cigar-shaped 'Oumuamua, which caused a stir when it zipped through the inner solar system in 2017, and the more conventionally shaped comet/asteroid hybrid 2I/Borisov, which was discovered in 2019.

"We will certainly discover more than the two currently known interstellar visitors, 'Oumuamua and comet Borisov," Wiegert said.

"This is an attempt to understand where the interstellar visitors we will discover in the future are likely to arrive from."

Alpha Centauri is home to three stars, including the closest star to Earth other than the sun, Proxima Centauri, and an unknown number of planets.

As these stars and planets whirl around each other, their gravitational interactions perturb the orbits of other smaller objects in Alpha Centauri, ranging from asteroids and comets — planetesimals left over from the formation of our neighboring system — to particles of dust.

Think of Alpha Centauri as a wet dog after a long muddy walk, shaking off a damp spray of dirt, mud, water, and even tiny pebbles.

And just as that dog's owner gets pelted with this material if they stand too close, the solar system is pelted with matter from Alpha Centauri, with the Oort Cloud serving as our unfortunate jacket, catching much of the detritus.

The duo conducted a simulation of the solar system and Alpha Centauri that lasted for over 100 million years. It showed that a significant number of objects can reach the solar system from Alpha Centauri.

"Objects from Alpha Centauri might enter the extreme outer boundaries of our solar system, defined to be the outer edge of the Oort Cloud, at a rate of perhaps 50 per year," Wiegart said.

"But only a very small fraction of these would get close enough to the sun to be visible. We estimated there is only a one-in-a-million chance that an asteroid from Alpha Centauri is currently within the orbit of Saturn."

The researcher added that, because of the high speed at which they enter the solar system, many of these interstellar visitors are unlikely to hang around our cosmic backyard, making fly-through visits just like 'Oumuamua and 2l/Borisov.

"Because they have rather high speeds, they do not get gravitationally captured by our sun but instead simply pass through our system," Wiegart added.

The duo's findings could be useful in the future because the research suggests clues that could be used to indicate interstellar visitors that originate from Alpha Centauri.

"Our study does show that asteroids from Alpha Centauri do have rather specific directions and speeds, and if a new asteroid were discovered traveling in that manner, it would be a strong indicator that it might have Alpha Centauri as its origin," Wiegart said.

"The possibility of studying material from Alpha Centauri is incredibly exciting," Wiegart said.

"Finding an asteroid from there in our solar system would be like getting a sample return mission from another star system, but for free."

@realDonaldTrump

Justin Trudeau, of Canada, called me to ask what could be done about Tariffs. I told him that many people have died from Fentanyl that came through the Borders of Canada and Mexico, and nothing has convinced me that it has stopped. He said that it’s gotten better, but I said, “That’s not good enough.” The call ended in a “somewhat” friendly manner! He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here?I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power. Good luck Justin!

I do not understand how he gets these weird ideas mixed among so many other seemingly good ideas and actions. I do not 'worship' the guy, but it is sad that he seems tonedeaf when it comes to such stuff. EU publisher pulls Vance’s book

A Lithuanian publishing house has recalled the US vice president’s novel in protest of Washington’s policy turn away from Kiev

Lithuanian publishing house Sofoklis has taken US Vice President J.D. Vance’s book ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ off the shelvesin response to reports that Washington has halted military aid to Kiev. The White House has not directly confirmed the reports to date.

US President Donald Trump made the decision after his public altercation with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in Washington last week. Speaking to the press afterward, Trump accused Zelensky of not wanting peace and trying to drag Washington into supporting the conflict long-term.

When asked about the pause of US aid to Ukraine, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told Fox News on Wednesday thatthe president would consider reversing it “if we can nail down these [peace] negotiations.”

The publisher made its own announcement in a Facebook post on Tuesday: “After the US presidential administration suspended aid to Ukraine, the publishing house Sofoklis withdrew J.D. Vance's book ‘Hillbilly Elegy’ from sale until the US foreign policy towards Ukraine changes.”

Sofoklis suggested customers read books by Ukrainian authors and donate to Kiev instead.

Zelensky has called called his Oval office debacle “regrettable,” although he has not apologized over the spat. The Ukrainian leader has also offered to sign a minerals deal with the US cancelled after the Oval office shouting match.

Trump has touted the deal as a way for the US to “get back” the money it has spent on funding Kiev since the escalation of the conflict in 2022.

In addition, Zelensky has declared himself ready to work towards an immediate ceasefire, reversing his hardline position on peace talks. In the past, he said that Ukraine would fight as long as it takes, and that any talks would be on Kiev’s terms.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that it finds a temporary ceasefire to the Ukraine conflict unacceptable, alleging that it would be used by Kiev to rearm. Russia insists on what it calls a permanent, legally binding solution that would address the fundamental causes of the conflict.

(The U.S. gives security subsidies to these countries, it’s not like Vance will miss the money. They are just digging a bigger hole for themselves. If that’s all they got it’s not going to help them pressure the U.S. to change the policy. It seems very few people in Europe want this war to stop killing millions. Faggots)

Myanmar leader backs Russia against Ukraine

The Asian country’s prime minister has said Moscow will soon win the conflict

Myanmar fully supports Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine and is confident in Moscow’s victory, the Asian country’s prime minister, Min Aung Hlaing, has said.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Tuesday, stressing that the conflict was instigated by the West.

According to Min Aung Hlaing, the world is moving toward a multipolar order, led by Russia, while the Ukraine crisis has unfolded as a direct result of Western countries’ efforts to resist this shift.

“I am confident that every country must defend itself, its sovereignty, its people, and its interests,” Myanmar’s leader said. “We understand Russia’s situation, and we fully support it in its special operation in Ukraine. And I am certain – I can say this: victory will be yours soon.”

Russia has repeatedly argued that the Ukraine conflict was provoked by NATO’s expansion toward its borders.

Last year, Putin outlined his conditions for peace negotiations with Kiev, which involve the complete removal of Ukrainian troops from all Russian territories, including the four former Ukrainian regions that joined Russia in 2022. He also demanded that Ukraine legally commit to never joining NATO or any other Western military bloc.

Following the escalation of the crisis in February 2022, General Zaw Min Tun, a representative of Myanmar’s military authorities, stated that Russia was “taking necessary actions to preserve and strengthen its own state sovereignty” and, as a great power, was “ensuring a balance of global forces that helps maintain peace worldwide.” The South-East Asian nation has since refused to back Western sanctions on Russia.

During his meeting with Min Aung Hlaing, Putin noted that relations between Russia and Myanmar are “indeed developing steadily,”noting bilateral trade rose 40% last year.

The two countries have agreed to boost economic ties and signed a deal on the construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant in Myanmar. Russian state nuclear energy giant Rosatom said the plant will have an initial capacity of 100 megawatts, with the potential for future expansion.

The Russian president also announced that a military contingent from Myanmar will participate in the May 9 Victory Day parade in Moscow, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

Majority of Americans support DOGE auditing Social Security administration: Poll

A majority of Americans in a poll published Tuesday said that they support the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) conducting an audit of the Social Security Administration, amid concerns over fraud.

The department has been conducting audits at multiple government agencies over the past month, in an effort to restructure the federal government.

A Rasmussen Reports poll on Tuesday found that 59% of respondents said they would support having DOGE audit Social Security, including 41% who are strongly in favor of the audit.

Approximately one third of respondents (35%) said they would not support the audit, including 23% who said they strongly oppose it.

See Earth shine like a Blue Marble in this stunning photo by Japan's private Resilience moon lander

March 4, 2025

The private Resilience moon lander now has a target touchdown date.

The Tokyo-based company ispace, which built and operates Resilience, announced Monday (March 3) that it's eyeing June 5 for the spacecraft's lunar touchdown attempt.

The current plan calls for Resilience to land that day at 3:24 p.m. EST (2024 GMT) near the center of Mare Frigoris ("Sea of Cold"), a basaltic plain in the moon's northern reaches. But that's not set in stone.

"Should conditions change, there are three alternative landing sites that are being considered with different landing dates and times for each," the company said in a statement on Monday.

"A decision about landing will be made in advance, but the window for landing is open from June 6 through June 8, 2025."

Resilience is ispace's second moon lander. The first reached lunar orbit successfully in March 2023 but crashed during its landing attempt a month later.

Resilience launched Jan. 15 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, which also sent Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander into the final frontier.

Blue Ghost aced its touchdown early Sunday morning (March 2), becoming just the second private vehicle ever to soft-land successfully on the moon.

Resilience is taking a longer, more circuitous path to Earth's nearest neighbor — one that didn't have a target landing date until Monday.

(Previously, ispace had said touchdown was expected sometime in late May or early June.)

Resilience has been performing well in deep space, notching five of the 10 preplanned mission milestones to date.

On Feb. 14, for example, the lander aced a flyby of the moon, zooming within 5,220 miles (8,400 kilometers) of the cratered lunar surface.

"Compared to Mission 1, Mission 2 is progressing as smoothly as can be expected from the moment of launch, which is proof that the mission operation specialists have made meticulous preparations.

I feel that the experience and knowledge from the previous mission have been put to good use," ispace Founder and CEO Takeshi Hakamada said in the same statement.

“There are five remaining mission success milestones. We believe that Resilience will achieve them all with a majestic landing on the moon and the Tenacious rover will begin exploration," he added.

"We will work as hard as we can to make that happen."

Tenacious is a microrover built by ispace's European subsidiary. If all goes to plan, the little robot will deploy from Resilience on the lunar surface and collect some dirt and gravel under a contract with NASA.

The lander carries four other science and technology payloads as well, including an instrument that's monitoring radiation levels in deep space and an experiment that will attempt to grow algae — a potential food source for future moon settlers — on the lunar surface.

Resilience will reach lunar orbit on or around May 6, according to Monday's statement.

It won't be the next private vehicle to try its hand at a lunar landing: Houston-based company Intuitive Machines, which pulled off the first-ever private moon touchdown in February 2024 with its Odysseus spacecraft, will try to repeat the feat on Thursday (March 6) with a lander named Athena, which launched on Feb. 26 and arrived in lunar orbit on Monday (March 3).

Just like Mexico, China is supplying a lot of the illegal labs in Canada the precursors to fentanyl.

Flooding America with fentanyl is part of Chinas plan on weakening America from within.

Poland confirms US has suspended military aid to Ukraine

American weapons have stopped moving across the border, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said

The US has suspended military assistance to Ukraine, including the delivery of weapons that were already in shipment, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has told journalists. Earlier, the move was reported by several US media outlets.

“Today, a decision was announced to suspend American aid for Ukraine,” Tusk told reporters ahead of a government meeting on Tuesday. Washington has not made any official announcements on the issue.

“Reports that are coming from the border, from our hub in Jasionka, have confirmed the announcements of the American side,” the Polish prime minister stated. Located in the southeastern Poland, Jasionka airport has been transformed into a major supply and transport hub for Ukraine-bound Western military aid.

Several US media outlets, including Bloomberg, the New York Times and CNN, then reported that US President Donald Trump had paused military aid following the falling out with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky in Washington last Friday. According to the NYT,the president’s order affected more than $1 billion in “arms and ammunition in the pipeline and on order.”

According to Tusk, American weapons which had already reached Poland were not expected to be sent to Ukraine following Trump’s decision. The prime minister also claimed that the US actionssuggest the Trump administration could possibly “start lifting” anti-Russian sanctions.

Last month, Trump held a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with discussions aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict and restoring bilateral ties. The US president then announced that he was “trying to do some economic development deals” with Moscow. He also signaled that sanctions could be lifted “at some point.”

Moscow responded by saying that it was open to economic cooperation with the US and called for the restrictions to be lifted.

According to Tusk, such developments were putting the EU and Ukraine “in a more difficult situation.” He also stated that the bloc’s task was “to increase its defense capabilities as quickly as possible” and in close coordination with “neighboring” NATO states.

On Wednesday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed to Fox Business that Washington has suspended intelligence sharing with Kiev as well. He called the measure temporary and argued that it was aimed at ensuring Kiev was committed to the peace process. Sky News initially reported on the same day that the suspension was “selective” only to say that it became total hours later.

Moscow had previously welcomed the reports about the suspension by saying thatif Washington stuck to this decision, it would “probably be the best contribution to the cause of peace.”

(The EU are freaking out because they will have to foot the bill. They should, they started it. It’s really unbelievable that Poland would back Ukraine when the Nazis there killed more than a million Polish citizens in WWII, plus Poland has the goal of taking back land that was stolen by the Nazis from them in WWII, so their motives are not pure. They are fine with more Ukrainians dying.)
